An "Advanced" board has been added to the oekaki!

I think this is a good idea that just needs time to take shape. I do understand it hurts feelings but it's easier to see you're improving this way. I know that crushing feeling of getting your art moved. Ive had it done to me five times before I finally gave up. But now many of us actually qualify for intermediate. Isn't that something? .3. Yes, now there's a longer stretch to reach for but you'll have the motivation to improve, won't you?

Now, what bothers me is that the all mighty mods get to decide what goes where. All mods have different opinions. Enough said.

I see lots of people useing this thread to play the "I can't improve game" well you know what? Most of these 1 year drastic difference in gallerie artists eaither A, have drawing experiance outside CS or b have 300-500 pieces of art.

I have a drawing I made from about 8 years ago and to be honest I think it was a pony of some sort, but I have no clue what it even was. Looking at my other drawings they are much the same. Now all my friends wow and gasp over my traditional art! Even 1 year ago people laughed at my human drawing, but now they are the 1 thing that catches the eyes of everyone when I bring a drawing on paper somewhere!

There is a catch to this drastic improvement however, I spent hours upon hours everyday on line, reserching, and drawing. There were days when I drew lines a minimum of 5 hours for days on end. After that I worked on non-referenced art and lines and started to focus in on the small things.

I'd spend weeks just drawing hair and trying to perfect it, then I would go to eyes, and so on. There is no well I'm good in my own eyes! I push myself to my personal limits and if that doesn't work I would push way past my comfort zone to gain a milimeter of ground. Now you may think it's useless to aim for milimeters when you could go for kilometers, but milimeters will eventually add up to kilometers.

Scientists have confirmed that about 10000 hours of practice will allow you to perfect anything, yes that is true. But if it's 10000 hours of 5 minuite art and complaining about how you can't improve that's what you will get good at. Be hard on your self and fight with tooth and claw to fight your way up that mountain. The feeling of the climb up is exhausting and giveing up seems the best choice, but sooner or later you WILL reach the top! You will be up there with the best of the best!

And just remember, even Leonardo da Vinci was laughed at and his art, especially his first pieces were concidered jokes in their time. Then look at where by the end he ended up. I can promice you this, he DID get mad about not being good and he DID want the best for his art but he pushed through. All around the world, people both young and old know what happens next. He goes from rookie laughable artist to one of the greatest minds of his time and of the best known artists of all time. Who says that in a few hundreds of years it won't be your picture shineing next to the Mona Lisa?

I must say i am very excited for this change, as I've been hoping for a higher level oekaki board for quite some time.

One thing I'm a bit unsure of, though, is that it seems like the Advanced board will turn out to be primarily, if not entirely, realistic/photorealistic artwork. That is, essentially, what the terms for the board are describing. It was mentioned that style does not necessarily define skill level, which is great, and very accurate!!! But photorealistic art has been enormously popular here, and gets featured very often and receives a ton of attention. I'm not bashing it, I really respect artists who do photorealism and I understand how much work they put into their pictures, but the favoritism isn't really great news for artists like myself, who draw in a more cartoony style. I think I've begun to ramble a bit, I apologize, but basically what I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't be surprised if the board was whittled down to realistic art only, since it takes so long and is so appealing to many users. This only bothers me because the amount of time it takes does not necessarily equal the effort so even if a drawing is very meticulous and fits the criteria of "very detailed drawings and intricate designs" it may not have taken as much effort as a cartoonist drawing that took less time. I have seen many drawings leaning toward the more stylized side that are overshadowed by drawings that may have more photorealistic "detail" but are not up to the same skill level as a whole.

Sorry for the long winded rant and the text wall, and I really am grateful for this new board!! I just wanted to speak up about a few things that were bothering me.

Thank you so much for making all these improvements to the Oekaki, Tess! I'm glad to see an advanced board finally up, and I love the ideas for future boards. Feel free to use any of my Oekaki art as an example if needed.

I really, really dislike the idea. If I ever decide to make a detailed drawing and put effort into it, I will post it in the beginners category as I do not approve of the unnecessary change at all. We did not need this.

I have actually seen several drawings in advanced that aren't realism, so I wouldn't worry too much about this.

Well, the advanced board doesn't exist yet, so I'm assuming that you mean the intermediate board as it is currently?? Because you're right, there's plently of more stylized artwork in that board, what I'm saying is that it's hard for more cartoony artwork to fit the parameters of the advanced board, no matter how hard the artist has worked.
