Kristyna sighed. "Grandma's sick. Like Papa was. Same thing he had," she said.

Luke's jaw dropped slightly. He looked as though he wanted to say something, but he wasn't quite sure what he could possibly say. Without a word, he stood and wrapped his arms around her gently. He had to bend down because she was sitting on the stool, but he didn't mind. He just wanted to comfort her.

Kris stood up, hugging him back with her face in his shoulder. "I don't know what to do, Luke."

"All we can do is support her and take care of her," Luke said softly, holding her in his arms. "But I promise, it'll all be alright, one way or another."

Kris sighed. "She's gonna die, Luke. It killed Papa," she whimpered.

"Baby, you don't know that." Luke kissed her forehead softly and rubbed her back, trying to reassure her.

Kristyna sighed, pulling back to wipe her eyes.

"Hey," Luke said softly, cradling her face gently in his hands. "Kristyna, look at me."

Kristyna looked up at him, sniffling.

"I promise you that everything will work out in the end," Luke said softly, gently wiping her tears away with the pad of his thumb. "Baby, I know that things are going to be hard and exhausting, but we'll make it. Your grandmother will make it, too. And if she does pass, just think about this: she gets to be with your Papa again, all healthy and happy. But until then, we know that she's alive and we'll do everything we can to let her know that we love her. Okay?"
