The Sun had settled below the horizon. The blinding light of day and the scorching heat that came with it had vanished from the land. Where golden hues had flooded the landscape just hours ago were pale moonbeams, glistening peacefully over the Earth below. Where heat had thirsted the land and beaten cruelly upon the landscape, cool night air seeped through the trees. Even the Great Forest was not safe from the Sun's eye. However, now the Moon ruled the skies, her dark cloak shrouding the landscape in darkness. It was time. Time for the creatures of the night to awaken. Creatures adapted to hide from the creatures of day. Creatures like mice. Like foxes. Like the Terralupi...
Caomh slowly came round from his dreams to awaken on this very night. He opened his jade eyes to look around, orientating himself. The den was silent. There was little noise. Only the soft sounds of his packmates breathing. He lifted his head and gave a great yawn, his silver-like fangs gleaming in the light of the moon. Once he was finished, the brute turned his head to look upon his pack. How peaceful they all looked. How content. With a smile on his face, he got to his feet and padded out of the den. It wouldn't be right for him to disturb them. They needed their rest. Instead, he sat at the den entrance, tail curled around his legs, and looked up at night's sky. Only a small circle of the vast shroud above them was visible, but it was beautiful to the pack leader all the same. He enjoyed watching the stars. He had heard many legends about them. Some said they were Terralupi who had passed on to the next life and that they acted as Guardians to the living. Some said that they were separate beings who guarded the night from evil. There were many other legends Caomh knew. He preferred the first of these legends. He liked to think that his parents were still guiding him to this day. That they could still see him. That they were proud...

Not too far away from the location of the pack's territory was the region inbetween territories. The region is huge when considering surface area, but consists of narrow, winding corridors through which little prey passes. They circle each territory, like the wall around a castle fort. They are highly dangerous for any Terralupus. Loners had often fallen prey to warring packs, getting caught up in fights and being slaughtered by accident. Pack Terralupi had also fallen prey to the loners, some killing them to reduce the competition for food, some for darker reasons I wish not to describe at this stage...
However, upon this night, everything here was silent. Not even the breeze, barely noticeable, disturbed the leaves in the trees. Nor the bushes on the ground. Not a sound. Not even a whisper. Then a loud crack echoed through the landscape. A crack that would have been muffled by the cacophony of the day. But in the still of the night, it might as well have been thunder. A flock of pigeons shot up from their roost in the tree, fleeing in case of danger lurking below. Now came the soft sound of paw pads on grass. Canine paw pads. Brushing softly against the ground, the sound was soon accompanied by a dark shape. It grew larger and larger as it drew nearer, until a blood red snout, criss crossed with yellow stripes, like cracks in volcanic ground. A pair of blood red eyes followed, until Aine emerged from the grass in all of her glory. She was on the prowl. Anything would do for her tonight. Rabbit. Mouse even. She was hungry. But she was wary too. She could scent a pack nearby. She kept one ear locked onto their location.
If they try anything funny, I'll show them...~~~|------------|~~~
