"Chocolate cake." Corrected Gabe, looking up as Eden entered the room. He noted the wrapped present she carried, and wondered briefly if he should have bothered with wrapping his. Naw, she'd like it anyway. "Its better than just plain cake, you know." He grinned as Ash joined the group, then started clearing the miscellaneous junk cluttered on the table. Magazines, a few of his gadgets he'd left there the day before, books, someone's (probably Devin's) papers, pencils. Had to have a clean surface for eating cake on, right?-and waffles, mustn't forget waffles. "I'm not sure how she figures Ryder's gonna be surprised." He remarked in a low voice as Devin went off to "distract" the birthday girl. "It's not like we can get her to forget it's her birthday." Gabe supposed that having a surprise party was one of those things Devin liked doing to make the treehouse seem more safe and family-like, but it seemed a bit silly to him. Why try and make it a surprise if everyone knew, and, more importantly, Ryder knew everyone else knew? They could just hide the presents, and Ryder could hang out with the rest of them and make cake instead of being awkwardly distracted from a party she probably already knew was happening. But then, Gabe had never pretended to understand all of Devin's decisions. He always thought she tried to make things too complicated. People weren't supposed to be complicated, machines were supposed to cover that. Which was probably why he had a better chance with a toaster than a girl. Not that he cared, of course.
