The pickpocket smiled, having heard Leon's stumble behind him. "You alright?"
The Misdreavous nodded. "That is probably true, but I will focus my main attentions on the directions you cannot see, and only occasionally sweep your direction, in case of aerial attack." That seemed fair.
He sighed, knowing she wouldn't let herself cry, even then. He wasn't big on emotional outbursts either, but it looked like he would be the most emotional of the two. As usual. And why not? I lost a best friend, too. He could already feel his eyes prickling as tears began to form.
He blinked them away as Mariah spoke, nodding. It was nearly time for them to watch Jon's corpse burn, then be swallowed forever by the waters. He gritted his teeth and tried to swallow the tears, but he knew he couldn't last. It would only be a few moments now, and he would break, as some of the other grunts surrounding them had done.
He turned on her. "No! They can't expect us to forget; to pretend that it doesn't matter! They're wrong! It matters! Jon's death has affected all of us. Look," he said, indicating the large crowd with a hand. "Look how many people are here! No one expects all of us to move on instantly!"
Except that they did. He knew for a fact that Cosmo and many of the other Aqua members would expect exactly that. But I'm not doing it... He wouldn't be able to cope here for long.
That settles it, then. I'm leaving. And I'm taking as many people that want to come with me as I can. Except Mariah. She was coming, whether she liked it or not. She would get a chance to grieve properly, whether she liked it or not.
The decision calmed him a little, and he looked towards the wooden barge with new strength, waiting to watch the flames through the tears still caught in his eyes.
A Rogue, sitting on the cliff overlooking the Aqua base, was watching the proceedings with a mixure of curiousity and surprise. It was a funeral going on, with what looked like at least a quater of the Aqua members attending. All of the stories he'd heard... They do care about each other...
He'd been throwing a Pokeball up and down since sitting here, but now caught it and glanced at it for a few seconds, as if using it to make a final decision. The answer came with a solitary nod, and the Rogue rose, leaving the cliff ledge to make his way down to meet the Aqua's.
