Why should you be able to adopt a newbie?: When I first started on CS I had a minimal understanding of the site, like how to get different pets, why they grew at different rates, when new pets came out, how to trade. It was through trial and error that I got to the point where I'm confident with the site like I am now and I would like to share my experience with others who are new and help them get to the point where they're confident as quickly as they want to be.
How often do you get on CS?: I get on at least once per day.
Which categories would you like to apply for?: General knowledge, forum, roleplaying, trading and pets, rarities
How long do you typically spend on CS each day you get on?: It varies. Sometimes, like in the mornings, it's just to check if anything happened overnight, like trades or PMs. Usually in the evenings though I'm on for at least an hour, if not more.
Do you agree to be helpful and polite to your newbie at all times?: Of course!
Roleplaying Sample (I originally roleplayed on Neopets and then on random off site forums, such as Visionary Tales):
"We have exciting news to bring you today, ladies and gentlemen. You may or may not remember seeing the broadcast many years ago about the death of the last, wild lion. This great cat was driven to extinction by encroachment of humans as African nations expanded into the wilderness, not only by hunting, but by lack of food. Now, we only have the opportunity, maybe once in a lifetime, to see them in a zoo or captive center. But I'm here to tell you that our children and future generations will have a chance to see these majestic creatures, not only in zoos, but in the wild."
A gasp went through the crowd. Murmurs started. She had them right in the palm of her hand. The press would explode by tomorrow morning by the time she was done. Probably even before. Perfect. One hand rose in the crowd.
Leaning towards the microphone, she nodded towards the pressman. The tall, lanky man stood, holding a flat tablet in his hand. "But Director, what do you mean?"
The 100 deuros she had spent on bribery had been a good 100.
"Allow me to explain." A picture of the last wild lion appeared behind her on the screen. "As we all know, the last wild lion died 50 years ago today, on August 16th, 2074. Hatima was the last of her kind and died of old age. All that was left were 50 or so lions left in zoos, with females severely outweighing males. The population has sustained itself in captivity, but only just. We at Engineered Science Frontiers have found a way to change that." She paused, letting what she had just said sink in. Presentation was important. "Some of you were here five years ago at our press conference where we released news of our M-Rats and R-Mice, which are mice turned into full-blooded rats and vice versa. After much trial and error, I now present to you our first DC-Lion."
The screen rose into the air, the lights dimmed. 75 year old Savannah sounds played through the sound system. Mist rose from several fog machines. There, in a glass case, was a fully grown, fully maned male lion, who let out an ear-shattering roar at the sight of the humans.
There were gasps, cheers, bursts of applause which gradually scaled up into a standing ovation. The Director stood, smiling. It was going perfectly. She stood at the podium, soaking in the applause before slowly raising a hand that quieted the applause as people returned to their seats. The recorded noises grew softer, the lights went up once more. The Director surveyed the crowd before beginning again.
"This is 231-C, known to our staff as Mosi. He was our first successful integration and since we have gotten even more impressive specimens. Mosi has already mated successfully with female 257-B, known as Nukta. Nukta is pregnant with her second litter of cubs as we speak. And these two aren't our only successful mating pair. We now have three prides of 10 fully grown DC-Lions each, one male and nine females, not counting cubs. We plan on sending out many of these lions to a lion reserve being constructed in the Republic of African States in the coming years. Eventually, these DC-Lions and their offspring will be released into a game reserve. Together with breeding programs from other zoos, we will be able to bring back the lion from extinction."
There was another smattering of applause as the screen covered Mosi once more. Hands began to rise in the audience. Having gone through many of these, the Director knew exactly who to call on. She pointed to a short, stocky woman in the front.
Jillian Clarke was the lead reporter for "The Environment Chronicle", a well-established supporter of Engineered Science Frontiers. Jillian was known for skipping the dirty details that no one wanted to hear and getting right to the results. "Director, I was wondering about the overall health of these DC-Lions. Are the proving to be susceptible to other domestic feline diseases, like Feline AIDS or Feline Leukemia?"
"Thank you for your question, Jillian. We did have some problems back in the 100-F series with gene rejection and even in the 110-E series with Feline Leukemia, but from the 230-C series up to our latest series, we have encountered no problems. Next question?" She pointed at an older man sitting in the second row.
Walter Holcomb used to be on the board for Engineered Science Frontiers in his youth. He was something of the Director's secret mentor. "Director, how is this process done? There are some of us who are confused." The Director nodded.
"First we begin with several breeds of domestic house cat, Felis catus, and we splice some Panthera leo genes into their DNA. We then take the ones who react well and inject them with a retrovirus carrying Panthera leo DNA so when then breed, their offspring will have more and more lion-like characteristics. It's a long process, and much more difficult with lions than with mice and rats, but we eventually got the hang of lion DNA and knew which pieces we had to splice in."
Walter looked at her. "So you being adding in little bits of lion DNA until one of the later offspring has fully lion DNA? Am I correct?"
The Director smiled. "In laymen terms, yes. Next question?"
The questions went on like this for another 10 minutes before the Director raised both her hands. "I'm terribly sorry, but that is all the time we have for today. I thank all of you for coming. Have safe trips home and God speed." She turned and walked away from the podium to thunderous applause. Two armed body guards met her at the bottom of the stage steps, flanking her on either side.
"How's the situation, Ken?" she asked as they walked away. One of the body guards sighed.
"The protesting has increased during the press conference. The local authorities are trying to keep the peace, but there's no telling what will happen."
Thanks!
