One way to not get into other stories is something really simple:
Don't let yourself.
Make a rule that if you get a new idea, write it down. Maybe plan a bit while you're still excited, but don't start writing it. Then go back to your old story and finish it up.
Maybe you should make some goals so you can stick with one story. Tell yourself, "if I get to chapter five, I can work on the other story for a few days until I get to a certain plot point. Then I'll go back to the old story." Goals can really help keep you on track.

Another way to stay consistent with the same story is to really plan it out. Come up with something that excites you so much that you just keep on going. Ask yourself questions like, "what would happen if I..." and then write it! Plan, and you'll have more to work from, which can help your creativity.

But remember:
Creativity is pretty fleeting. That isn't what keeps writers on the track of finishing their book. It's determination and the self control to know when to stop moving on to another book.
Do let yourself have some freedom, though. If your book is really bringing you down and you really do not want to work on it, or can't think of anything, no matter how hard you try and no matter how many writer's block inspiration blogs you use, then just take a step back. Work on another story. Or take a break completely for a few weeks or even motnhs.

I really need to follow my own advice, I hven't worked on my story in a week.

It's so discouraging to see all the mistakes you made whilst editing your novel :c

Yes. T-T I tend to look back at old stories from a few years back to revise and continue, and now I realize how mortifying my errors were. A few years later, I'll look back at what I'm writing now and think the same! X3

Does anyone here have any experience in writing screenplays? I'm practicing the style (finished a short-story turned screenplay yesterday), but much of the terminology is baffling me, particularly when it comes to parenthetical and camera shots. Is there a term for panning across an image that's accepted in a script?
