Chapter five; An unwelcomed guest
Kaida shook her head in disbelief, still staring in awe at the bowing wolves before her. All of the sudden a male with sandy blond hair and sparkling blue eyes rose, giving a smile. "I am Grazie, beta male, at your service Ma'am" He said curtly, before giving a second bow. "N-No!" Kaida squeaked, eyes wide. "I-I... There was a mistake! I'm not alpha! What are you all talking about!" She sputtered, her words stumbling over one another. "You're alpha now, though" H'anui pointed out with a chuckle, she then turned and ushered the group to shoo and go about their normal buisness with a flick of her wrist. "You won against Timber, Kaida. That makes you alpha! Be happy!" She bubbled, patting the girls dirt matted hair.
She shook her head again, staring fearfully at H'anui. "I-I can't" She choked out, her lip trembling. "I can't be alpha, I dont know how..." She whispered afterword, dropping her head. A chorus of laughter caused her to look up at H'anui and Frost having a pleasant laughing fit. "Wh-" She started, only for H'anui to shake a hand dismissively at her. "Dear you dont need to know yet! you're still young! You'll be training under Timber now" She stated simply, ruffling the girls hair before stepping back and looking her over.
"I dare say, its time for a bath" She retorted, patting the girls shoulder before draping an arm around her and steering her towards the house, where many of the other pack members had already pooled into the living room and were sitting around chatting. They all fell silent abruptly as she walked past, hovering in the doorway a moment. "... Have a nice night" She chided silently, giving a smile before rushing off after H'anui down the hall, and up the stairs.
She squeaked in surprise as she was suddenly shoved harshly against the wall by her collar when she turned a corner. Her eyes were wide as she glanced down into Riu's cold glare. "What the HELL did you DO" He snarled, keeping it down as to not alert the others. Kaida swallowed a bit, as she attempted to push the boy off of her. He released his grip on her, only to punch the wall and mutter a silent string of curses. "Why Kaida" He hissed, turning to glare at her again. "You took MY RANK" He snarled, tugging at his hair as he fell onto the ground, sitting cross legged in the middle of the hallway.
"Riu I-" She started, leaning down to place a hand on his shoulder, only to have him slap it away harshly and glare at her. "Why would you intervene you freaking idiot. That blow was nothing. That was MY rank. I was supposed to be the alpha. Ive trained for YEARS for this. Why didnt he kill you. How the hell were you so strong" He spilled out, burying his face in his hands with a groan. Kaida glanced at him guiltily, he looked so pained. She sighed a bit and stood, shaking her head. "If I could help it I would..." She whispered, before turning to leave. A hand clamped around her wrist held her back.
"You CAN help it" He growled, a smirk playing over his features. "You can be my mate, that way I can lead my way and you can dally about like the idiot you are" He cooed, flashing her a devious grin. She didnt trust him at all. "N-No thats okay..." She whispered, before wrenching her wrist away and turning to leave, only to be forced against the wall. Warm breathe flooded her face and she opened an eye, jumping a bit at how close he was. "That isnt a smart idea" Growled the male, cupping her cheek with a hand in a surprisingly gentle manor.
Mist padded slowly up the stairs, Lee trailing behind silently as the two made their way to her room so she could show him he fake tail that she had worn previously, before the pack 'kidnapped' her, as she put it. She and he had spent a while during the fight chatting idly about their past lives. Lee had been abused by his alcoholic father, and his mother had lost the battle to cancer when he was very young, so he had been taken in by Timber. Mist merely told him about her younger brother and her parents, then proceeded to discuss her and Kaida's friendship and how they met. He laughed rather hard when Mist told him about the pairs first word to one another.
Mist remembered it as if it were just yesterday. In grade five, the two had been in the same class. Kaida sat in the back corner beside the book shelf, and every day she would sit there alone and read all day. The girl had no friends. Mist on the other hand, was friends with one of the populars, of whom wasnt the best of friends to be around to say the least. Mist had approached the lonely girl one day though, and sat down before her with a friendly smile. The girl paid no heed to poor Mist, so she took the initiative to speak. "Hey there!" She had chirped, extending a hand. Kaida had looked out over the top of her book and raised an eyebrow, making Mist lower her hand again. "Hi..." Came the grumbled responce. "What are you reading?" Mist offered, at this point she craved a relationship with the silent girl. "A book." Kaia had huffed, before putting in her bookmark and setting down the book. "What do you want with me" Kaida had hissed defensively.
The ebony haired girl had laughed aloud as she retold the memory, Lee laughed along with her. Now the two were at her room door, but a thump around the corner drew Mist's attention. She hadn't seen Kaida since after the fight when everyone, including her and Lee, had bowed to the new alpha. Mist was bubbling with excitement to chat to her best friend about the occurance, but she also wanted to make sure she was okay after such a brutal fight. "What was that?" Lee offered, biting his lip as he peered around the corner curiously. He gaped at the sight before him, summoning Mist eagerly. She padded over and peeked around the corner, eyes growing wide.
Riu had Kaida pinned to a wall, dangerously close, and she was struggling. This had to be bad! Mist hurriedly jumped into action and lunged around the corner, drawing back her fist and swinging. A horrific smack was heard as her fist came into contact with his cheek, and he stumbled sideways clutching his face. Kaida snickered a bit, turning to Mist. The two shared a glance for a moment before high fiving and nodding. Kaida then turned to Lee and tilted her head a bit, then looked back to Mist, and then back to Lee again. "I think I'll go..." She peeped, winking at Mist. "UGH! We arent dating Kaida! Dont look at me like that!" She whined, pouting as Kaida turned and headed off in search of H'anui.
Lee smirked playfully, nudging the pouting girls arm. "But we could be." He murmured teasingly, before he chuckled and grasped the girls arm lightly and began tugging her towards her room. The two then went inside and perched on the girls bed, chating idly about their lives before the pack. Mist complained multipled times about wanting to go home, and how she bet her family had called the police, while Lee only laughed and reminded her that they would be unable to find her. Kaida at that point though was standing in front of a hall mirror, brown hair still messy and clumped up with blood and dirt from the previous fight. She gave an exasperated sigh and began to pick and pull at strands of hair, trying to dislodge some of the mud and caked on blood, to no avail. The sound of footsteps caused her to turn and look to the corner of which she had just come around.
Riu was casually leaning against the wall, a leg kicked up against it and his gaze facing the carpet below. The light above lit up his messy raven hair, reminding Kaida of something along the lines of a blow dried rat. The male lifted his sky pools to glare at the girl, before they softened and he gave a sigh. "Kaida..." The male muttered, and Kaida's blood ran cold at just the way he said it. A frown pulled at her features and the brunette turned fully towards him with a cold glare, crossing her arms. "Riu" She growled through clenched teeth, her freckled nose scrunched up and her cheeks puffed out a bit in a frustrated manor. Riu chuckled silently at the girls resembalance to a fish.
"What do you want Riu." Kaida snapped, narrowing her hazel eyes in his direction. He chuckled and shook his head, his features laden with malice. "Oh just to apologize to the oh-so-perfect new alpha female" he spat bitterly, his expression suddenly changing to that of anger. He clenched his fist's to his sides, before taking a breath and muttering something incoherent beneath his breath, His demeanor calmed scarily fast, making Kaida take a shaky breath of which was hurriedly followed by a step back. "What are you talking abo-" She was cut off by the boy approaching and smashing his lips against hers forcefully, leading her backwards until she was pressed firmly against the wall.
In a shocked state the girl fell still, but after a moment she blinked and pressed her hands to the boys chest, waiting for him to get comfortable before giving a shove that sent him reeling back. as he regained his composture he looked up at her, blue eyes pooled with confusion. That didnt last long, because before he could utter a word a fist came in contact with his jaw and he was on the ground clutching the side of his face in pain. Kaida breathed heavily a moment, before shaking her head as the raven haired boy before her staggered to his feet, his head down with his face concealed from view.
"I tried being nice..." Came a raspy growl, and his head shot up with rage burning in his clear blue eyes. Kaida stepped back a bit, fearfully if anything, before knitting her eyebrows in confusion. "Riu what are you-" She started, but a growl cut her off. "Just shut up already" The male snapped in her direction, his lips twitching into a frown. "Why wont you just give me what I worked so hard for..." He growled silently, looking up to catch the girls eyes. Kaida breathed a sigh, shaking her head. "I would, Riu, I really would! Do you think I WANT to be alpha? I am NOT alpha of Bloodmoon!" The brunette snapped in return, which made Riu fall deadly still, with an eerie silence to match.
"You ungrateful brat..." Came his hushed voice, and Kaida gave a confused look as she searched the boys expression for answers. His mouth curled up into a vicious smile and he took a step closer. "You took what I've been trying three years to achieve... I waited so long to be able to fight that old man to take my rightful spot as alpha... After all Ive had to tolerate I deserve that at least...Just to have a stupid mutt come and snatch it from me, when she DOESNT EVEN WANT IT" He shrieked, thrusting his fist at the wall in blind fury. Rushed footsteps could be heard and H'anui turned the corner with a look of shock clouding her features. "Riu!" The blonde woman snapped in a disapproving manor, before she paced over and took the boy by his arm. "Kaida, go shower" She commanded, before tugging the struggling and complaining raven haired boy off in the direction of his room.
Kaida shuddered a bit, breathing a sigh as she regained her composture and straightened up a bit, only then noticing that she had been curled against the wall fearfully. She patted off her mud caked jeans and frowned, turning and stalking off in the direction of her room. Upon arriving she pawed through the drawers, finding a lot of clothes that was definitely not hers. But nonetheless she took a pair of jeans and a baggy T-shirt, as well as the toher essentials, before yawning lazily and trudging to the bathroom at the end of the hall. She flicked on the lights and stepped into the pale blue room, glancing at the flower-y blue shower curtain with a snicker. The girl closed and locked the doors before setting her new clothes on the toilet seat and shedding the sticky, wet and muddy T-shirt and jeans she had been wearing and kicking them to the side. She stepped into the bathtub and turned on the water, smiling at the warm stream of water that poured from the showerhead, before she stepped into it. The girl scrunched her nose up in disgust at the dirt rolled off her and down the drain.
After washing her hair and ridding it of the muck and blood, the girl turned off the shower and stepped out. She wrapped a towel around herself and sighed, peering in the mirror that hung over the sink in a tired manor. "What have I gotten myself tangled up in... I am not alpha... I am not supposed to be alpha." She murmured, shaking her head before wrapping her hair up in a towel and going about dressing. Upon finished Kaida combed her matted brown hair out before turning to the door and timidly unlocking it, gathering her dirty clothes, and padding out into the chilly feeling hallway. It was eerily quiet at that point, making Kaida hum nervously as she rushed down the hall on her tiptoes and deposited her clothes into a laundry basket, before the girl turned and scampered back to her room hurriedly. She flung open the door before quickly closing it again. She then padded in and collapsed face-down onto the bed, breathing an exasperated sigh. After a moment of laying there, three gentle raps were heard on the door. Kaida sluggishly sat up and gave a whiny huff, before staggering onto her feet and wobbling to the door.
Mist giggled aloud. Her and Lee were still perched on the edge of her large bed, chatting now about their favorite things. "My favorite food is pizza, I mean, whats not to love!" lee chirped, giving a grin. Mist rolled her eyes and smirked. "I dont know, taco's are pretty amazing too" She countered teasingly, making the boy pout childishly. "No way man! Pizza is totally better!" He whined, sticking out his tongue at the girl. "Puh-lease" Mist teased, chuckling and shaking her head. She turned her gaze toward the little digital clock on her nightstand and sighed. It was already 10 o'clock. How did the time pass so hurriedly? She shrugged it off and yawned a bit, jumping in surprise as Lee' pulled her into a hug and lay back so she was on his chest. "And now we sleep" Commented the boy, making Mist squirm. "Go to your own room you flirt!" Mist complained, pouting. After a moment of silence the boy chuckled in defeat and released his hold on her, rising to his feet and pacing off to the door.
"Good night" Mist cooed sarcastically, chuckling as the boy turned and stuck his tongue out at her before making his way out of the room, closing the door lightly after he left. Mist then rolled back onto the bed and pulled down the covers best she could, worming around so she wasnt on top of them as she pulled them over her. She then snuggled up with a contented sigh and closed her eyes. She was too tired to put on pyjama's anyway. The girl eventually grew uncomfortable, and flipped her pillow over before changing her sleeping position a bit. Contented now, she closed her eyes again and slowly drifted to sleep, too tired to care about anything.
Kaida slowly twisted the knob on the door, before pulling it open a bit and looking around the inky blackness. Her eyes fell onto a tiny slip on the ground, making her groan and roll her eyes. The girl crouched down to pick it up before she closed the door once again, flicking on the light as she padded over to the window ledge. She perched on the cushion and looked out the window a moment, before turning her gaze back to the note. After a moment of looking over the gentle scrawlings of her name in the black ink she gave a small smile and unfolded the note. Kaida scanned over the slip in her hands momentarily before setting it down on the ledge before her and sitting back, running a hand through her still damp hair. The girl groaned in defeat before sliding off the sill and walking towards her drawers. She hummed in thought a moment before switching into a long sleeved shirt and heading out into the hall again. The girl tip-toed down the stairs and to the front door, where she then slowly pulled on her shoes and slipped out the door into the night. Back on her windowledge the tiny note lay, and scrawled on it was something very simple.
I have something important to ask of you. Meet me by the creek as soon as possible. ~Unknown
After the girl had arrived at her destination she breathed a sigh. Kaida perched on one of the rocks and turned her gaze onto the gurgling creek, an eerie dark color now rather than its usual cheery blue. A chuckle caused her to slowly raise her head and turn to look behind her, and the sight she was met with made her glare. "How in all the gods above did I know it would be you" She growled silently, giving him a look that was anything but amused. "Who else would it be?" The male purred, his voice thick with sleep. Kaida narrowed her eyes at Riu, crossing her arms a bit. "Why do you insist on bothering me of all people? Just go away!" She complained, making the boy laughed aloud and shake his head. "Because you're the oh-so-perfect alpha now, which is supposed to be my rank, so either you become my mate so I can be alpha or I'll kill you for the position" Growled the male in an eerie manor, glancing at her through the dark with harsh blue eyes.
Kaida rolled her eyes, breathing a sigh. "Look Riu-" She started, but the boy cut her off. "No, you look Kaida. I;ll just get to the point. I called you down here at this time because there's no one else. Just me you and the dark. And it is here that I will get your answer. Will you be my mate and allow me the alphaship I deserve for working so hard to attain it, or will you die where you stand?' Came the harsh boys threatening voice, making Kaida recoil in disgust. After a moment the girl straightened up a bit, pursing her lips and turning her gaze onto the ground as thoughts bubbled through her mind. Kaida eventually rose ehr hazel gaze to meet Riu's, and the boy gave a snort followed by a triumphant smile. "Good girl" He purred simply, making Kaida scrunch up her nose in disgust once again. "I didn't say anything" She hissed coldly through her clenched teeth, making Riu look on in an amused manor.
"Well you'd better get to speaking" Riu began, leaning close to the girl with a cruel grin. "Or I'll get impatient. And you wont like that." He added in a whisper, smirking at this point. Kaida sighed, shaking her head in dismay before flicking her gaze up to lock with his. The two had a stare down for a moment before Kaida crossed her arms, looking away. "Why do you want this so bad anyway" She huffed silently, squeaking in surprise as Riu took a step closer, tilting his head a bit and giving her a wild look. "Why? Oh I don't know! Probably because I spent five. Freaking. Years. Training to the point at which I bled for that position, only to have in snatchd up by an ungrateful brat such as yourself" Spat the boy, giving her a forceful shove. Kaida toppled over and landed with and 'oomf' on her rump, glaring up at the boy. "Well my apologies. But look can't you just get over it?" Kaida muttered, turning her gaze away and staring intently towards the dark forest that surrounded them.
"Get... Over... It? Get over it? GET OVER IT?!?" The boy shrieked, his voice growing in volume with every word. He hovered over Kaida, anger painstakingly apparent in his ocean pools. "Y-Yeah..." Kaida squeaked, making Riu spin on his heel and tangle his fingers into his own hair, tugging it forcfully and giving an angered groan of which was followed by a string of curses being muttered. It was apparent that he was trying his best to keep his temper at this point. Kaida tok this as her chance to rise to her feet and take a few steps back, nearing the house slowly. After a moment though the boy whipped around and shot her a venomous glare as he stalked closer. "Where do you think you're going mutt? I wasn't done talking to you. How rude" Riu growled silently, grabbing her by the crook of her arm and drawing her close. "Now make your decision" He added, dangerously close now. Kaida narrowed her eyes as he pressed his forhead to hers, but she darent move. He appeared more used to fighting than she ever had been, so she would remain still for now.
Lee groggily looked up at the sound of voices outside. The raven haired boy yawned, stifling said yawn with his hand. After a moment Lee rolled over into a sitting position and lazily rubbed at his dzzling blue eyes, of which were heavy with sleep. He stumbled to his feed and staggered to the door, flinging it open and wobbling down the hall in a sleepy daze. After a bit of stumbling about the boy padded intot he kitchen, having regained his composture. He paced to the fridge and heaved it open, taking out the milk cartoon and looking over it, before sighing and putting it back. The voices outside cause him to look up again, before he padded over to a window. He gaped at the sight that he was met with, Kaida and Riu.
After a moment of gaping at the sight Lee stood erect, mouth hanging open. He rushed to the back door and pulled on someone elses shoes, not caring enough right now to bother with his own, before he rushed outside. The door clattered open loudly as he dashed through the dew-coated grass towards the pair, before he sucked in a breath and clenched his teeth, shutting his eyes hurriedly as he bareled into Riu with a truimphant huff. The boy writhed under him, sputtering curses angrily and trying to swing at him. Kaida looked utterly terrified. Lee snorted before slowly rising off Riu, watching as the boy glared before slinking off into the house again, slamming the door hard behind him.
"You alright?" Lee chimed curiously, looking over Kaida to see if she was hurt. The girl waved her hand a bit as if to brush off the subject, laughing silently. "Fine, fine. God he's persistant" He groaned in an annoyed manor, rubbing her eyes with a porly stifled yawn. Lee chuckled and shook his head, grabbing her shoulders and spinning her in the diretion of the house, before pushing her along lightly. "What did he even want?" He inquired curiously after a moment of heading towards the house. Kaida stopped in her tracks and sighed, shaking her head. "he wants me to be his mate or some nonsense" She murmured, waving her hand around dismissively once again with a roll of her hazel eyes. Lee gave a sigh, shaking his head a bit and 'tsk'ing. "I seen it coming" he mused silently, biting his lip in thought as they pushed open the door and headed inside. Lee kicked off his borrowed shoes, and Kaida her own, before the two padded inside and sat themselves down at the kitchen table.
Kaida rested her head in her hands, sighing audibly before getting up again. "I'm going to bed" She whispered silently, hurrying off and up the stairs. She swung the same left turn and headed down the same hall, hurrying into her room and gently closing the door. "I've been here a whole three days and all this happens. Good god.... I wonder what's happening back home" She murmured, pacing about her room a moment before flopping down onto the bed. "They probably aren't even looking for me... It wouldn't surprise me if they weren't" She added silently, chewing at her lip softly and staring at the pale white roof.
Lee shook his head and slowly stood up, stretching out with a rather loud yawn before slowly tip-toeing towards the fridge, heaving it open and pawing through it. He pulled out a cold slice of pizza before turning on his heel and gently nudging the fridge closed with his foot, before he started down the hall and up the stairs to his room. Upon making it to the door he went still a moment, taking a rather deep breathe and glaring to his right, intot he murky darkness. "Riu, seriously. I know you better than that" he growled silently, earning a hiss of disapproval. "You shoundn't have interfe-" the boy was cut off by the slam of a door, signaling that Lee had walked into his room and shut the door, completely ignoring the enraged boy. Riu let out an irritated huff before turning and shuffling down the hall, then plodding down the stairs. He was infuriated once again.
The tempermental boy hauled on his shoes hurriedly before walking noisily into the kitchen, swinging open the fridge door and gathering a tinfoil covered plate into his arms, before kicking closed the fridge door again and staggering out the back door, with the wooden object swinging shut loudly behind him. Riu dropped the plate once taking a few steps away from the house before he switched forms. The black beast's fur bristled as his muscles convulsed, before he began to rip the tinfoil from the plate and hungrily devour the cold, leftover turkey from a few nights prior. He was shocked no one had awoken from all the commotion he had made, yet again they had been busy preparing for a while so they were probably out cold. Riu gave an animal, devious smirk before turning and padding off towards the treeline, his tail swishing in an amused manor behind him.
A chilling breeze lifted the brute's raven fur as he pushed past a low-lying pine branch, trudging further and further into the darkness of the dense forest. He had been walking a few minutes now, and was rather far from home at this point. Riu stopped as a branch cracked under his paw, flinching at the sound. After a moment he breathed a sigh, watching as the warm breath came out in a puff of smoke, before it floated upwards and disappeared. Riu shook his head slowly, the massive thing swinging back and forth rather clumsily, before he started off again and continued pushing his way through the undergrowth. The male pondered all along the way why he stuck around that pack. No one respected him, aside from Timber, and no one paid attention to all the effort he had been putting into trying to be alpha. He had worked day and night at growing stronger, only to have some stranger come and take his rank from him. With a huff Riu shook away the thoughts, not wishing to dwell on that for too long. He had tried as well as he knew how to make the new alpha be his mate, so he could at least get a sliver of what was supposed to be his, but that greedy she-wolf wanted the rank all to herself.
Riu sucked in a breath, readying himself to let out a lengthy and upset howl, but a snap in the brush not too far off caused him to go stiff, his ears pivoted upright. He blinked in surprise before very slowly turning and dropping into a crouch, curling his lips up to reveal his massive canine as he let out a snarl. He heard a throaty chuckle as a sandy colred wolf with cruel eyes pushed out of the brush to his left, inspecting him curiously. "So you came around after" The wolf mused curiously, tilting its bulky head at Riu. "I'm not here for you" Riu snapped, standing again and turning to the other male before he sat up on his haunches, hackles raised. "Oh calm down Riu, I've been watching. I seen what happened. That was rather rude of.. What was his name again? Oh I do believe I forgot" The sandy wolf purred in a sickeningly sweet tone. "Look, what do you want?" Riu huffed after a moment, pinning back his ears and flicking his tail uncomfortably.
The sandy wolf tilted his head, flicking an ear before falling silent. After a moment he erupted into laughter, making Riu flash a questioning, and almost concerned, glance. After a few seconds, though, the wolf calmed himself down and breathed a delighted sigh. "My dear Riu you are hilarious. You know I'm here to inform you that the offers still open, and we still have our arms open to such a determined boy as you" Cooed the wolf, sitting up on its haunches as well. Riu pinned back his ears a bit, turning his gaze to his feet. "I dont kno-" He was cut off by a grunt, making him look up. "I see how they treat you. They don't care how hard you tried dear Riu, oh precious sweet Riu. They don't care about you. We all will. Your determination will gain you great things. Beautiful things" Whispered the wolf, his voice having grown soft as he turned his burning gaze onto Riu. After a moment of silence Riu gave a growl and rose to his feet, his head down. "Take me home." He growled softly, making the sandy wolf tilt his head. "But what about-" He stopped short as Riu flashed him a grin.
"What home did you think I meant" He inquired, before chuckling and padding a bit closer to the sandy wolf, still a bit weary, but nontheless the older male gave a smirk and rose to his paws once again, standing erect before looking around. "The family will be delighted to meet you" Purred the brute in his sweet tone, before he turned and started off the opposite direction, Riu pushing along through the undergrowth after him. After a while of walking under the moonlit tree's, with shadows crawling all around them, the two arrived at the edge of the treeline, making Riu fall still a moment. The other wolf stopped as well, giving him a curious look. "What is it?" He called back slently, flicking an ear. Riu hesitated before, sighing. "Timber said never to cross the treeline... He said its dangerous" He murmured, making the other wolf laugh aloud. "Oh please, don't mind that dense man. He doesn;t know what he's saying, come on now were almost there" The wolf urged, making Riu sigh before staring after him again at a quicker pace, his head down. After a moment something struck the boy though, making him look up hurriedly. The sandy wolf looked back curiously, still walking along slowly though. "What is it this time?" He whined sulkily, his tail drooping a bit. Riu chuckled a bit, shaking his head. "It's just... I never caught your name" He said silently, and the golden wolf gave an impish smirk.
"Logan. The name's Logan."
