~Facts; Need-to-Know Information~
Ranks, in order of importance.Alpha~The Leader of the pack. They are the most respected of the pack. They often deal with things such as what battles to fight, who are the enemies, and who are the allies. Also, they choose who is allowed to join the pack. There are most often two alphas.
Alpha Male~ The alpha male leads the pack into battle and makes such that the pack is safe. He also sets borders. He keeps watch over the pack, and is responsible for the safety of every member. If he is challenged and loses, the alpha female also loses her position.
Alpha Female~The alpha female makes most of the decisions for the pack. She is always the alpha male's mate. She often has pups, and is normally too busy with her pups to do things such as fight and hunt. When it comes to decisions of who is allowed to join the pack, and earning higher rankings, the alpha female's opinion is (usually) considered more important. (However the alpha male must also be consulted)
Beta~ There is only one beta in the pack of strays. They help the alphas with duties such as organizing who hunts and when, and doing frequent border patrols. The beta is highly respected by the other dogs, but still submits to the alpha. When the alphas both die or retire, the beta becomes alpha (male or female), and chooses his/her mate as the other alpha. The alphas both decide on who should be the next beta. Often only the most experienced dogs get chosen as beta, only if they've proven themselves.
Elders~ Elders are the oldest dogs in the pack. They are also some of the most respected. They are highly taken care of and well guarded. They make the pack strong, even though they are too weak to fight and hunt. A pack with many elders is a pack well lead. When a dog gets too old, or severely injured to where they can't fight or hunt, they retire and become an elder. They minimum age for a dog to retire to an elder would be 5 years of age; the maximum 10. By pack laws (depending on the pack) the alpha can force an old, or injured, dog to retire if he/she thinks it necessary.
Pup Mothers/Queens~ The pup mothers, also known as 'queens' are the females that are pregnant or nursing pups. They do not hunt, patrol, or fight while they are pregnant or nursing. The entire pack cares for the queens, just as they do elders. When her pups are weaned she may leave the nursery. Some females choose to be only queens, and not fight. They help all of the young and new queens take care of their pups, and look after them if she needs to go somewhere. They are often reffered to as 'pup-sitters'. A queen cares for her pups until they are weaned, at the age of six months.
Pups~ Pups are between the ages of 1 day and 6 months and live in the nursery.
Apprentices~ Apprentices are pups aged 6 months or older. Usually 6 months to 1 year olds. They are trained by older members of the pack, normally the warriors, to fight and hunt. They live and sleep among the regular dogs and are fully weaned from their mother. They are trained by every pack member, equaly. They are usually trained in group sessions, given by 2-3 warriors, and sometimes even the beta or alpha.
Warriors~ Warriors are any dog that does not fit into any of the above categories. They are more respected than the omegas. Their main goal is to keep the pack safe. They are normally omegas that get accepted, or apprentices that have grown. Any warrior has the chance to become beta. Warriors all help out in hunting, patrolling, and training the apprentices.
Omegas~The omegas of a pack are the lowest rank. They have this rank because either they have just joined the pack, and are not still fully trusted by the alphas, or they have challenged/threatened the alpha male in any way. If a dog joins a pack he/she is automatically an omega. They can earn the trust of the other pack members, though, and earn a new rank.
Loner~ When you join the roleplay, your dog(s) starts as a loner. They belong to no pack and must ask the alpha to join one and become an omega. Or they can band together with other loners to create a pack. (see rules)
Territories:The dogs live in the city, but sometimes venture to the outskirts of town where there are hills and wooded areas. Some packs, like Moon-pack, live in an abandoned building. The dogs that live in the outskirts eat mainly rabbits and mice and other such things. The dogs that live in the city eat what they can steal from humans.
