{Short Story:}
"Tide! Let's go outside for a little exploring!" I say as I grab a water bottle.
"Yay! I can't wait to see the tall and graceful palm trees of Florida!" Tide jumps up and down.
"Cool! Let's head to the park!" I smile, opening the door for Tide to go out.
"Alright!" Riptide says as he pads out the front door.
I walk out after Tide to see him running towards the park and into a little forest of newly planted palms. As his first time out, he begins to chew a palm branch. I slowly walk over, looking at the sky. The clouds are dark as night even though it is mid-day. "Oh please don't rain!" I whisper to myself. "Don't chew that Tide, it's nasty, filled with germs!" I calmly say as I reach his location. Tide walks over to a drain that allows rainwater to be pushed through pipes, which go who knows where!
"What is this?" Tide looks at me.
"That's a rain gutter... drain... thing." I space my words and he inches toward the drain.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you..." I stutter with a hint of nervousness.
"Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy?!!!!" Tide screams as he falls in, but manages to get a hold of a rusty old bar. He cries to me for help as it becomes windy and rain drops begin to fall. I run for him as quickly as possible.
"I'm coming tide!!" yell as I almost trip and land face first into a puddle. The rain starts to come down with full force, my sight is blinded as I scream. "Tide! Tide! Where are you!?" but no reply as I fear for the worst. My wonderful pet and friend, for all I know, has been swiped away in the flood to come. Maybe drowning him as he gasps for air flowing through the pipes. The rain doesn't let up, the wind blows hard, I feel as if I am in a tornado, or a hurricane! "Tide! Riptide! Hang on!" I yell into the blinding downpour.
"Uni! Uni! I'm here! HELP!" Tide finally yells.
"Gotch ya!" I say, grabbing him and running for the door. He jumps from my hands and runs to the house. I can't see him anymore. "Tide! Don't get lost!" I say approaching the drive way. I slip a little and regain balance as I see him soaked at the door.
"I am soaked and a bit mad, now you can you wash me?" He rudely retorts.
"Well!" I cross my arms walking into the house. I pick him up and walk through the long hallways of the empty and lonely house. I place him in the bathroom as I run the water. I slowly walk to my room, still dripping. I change my clothes and walk back to where I put Tide. He tries to climb into the tub, but is to wet to get a grasp. Tide plops into the water as I lift him and sits there to look at me as I kneel down.
"Thanks for saving me." Tide smiles as he shuts off the water.
"Yea well, I only did it because I would be alone the rest of the summer." I start to laugh. Tide begins to laugh as well. We hug, it seems forever before we let go. I grab the shampoo and begin to rub it into his soft silky fur. He stares at my face well I carefully scrub him to the skin. He licks me as I start to wash him down with the shower head.
"Good boy, you are now clean." he jumps out and heads to my room with his towel. I catch him and dry him real quick before he snuggles under my covers.
"Goodnight sweet Tide." I whisper and turn out the lights.
"Goodnight." he replies and falls asleep.
