I just came up with something to improve on! When you go to paint the mane, it's good to have it in semi organized clumps like you do, but it's also good to not do it on a lock alpha layer (Dunno if you really did that or not..) and just paint away over the original image in a free layer. same with the halter. You'll find it's much easier to include little details such as fly aways and stitching in the halter.

and thanks Zax! I will totally keep that in mind, (and probably will try that on this.) I had made the mane then locked it do add the different hair colors. But what you have said sounds good.
