What do you do to get inspiration when making character designs?

Usually, it's an idea that comes to me. For example, my Roman characters. First, I think of something I haven't seen before for a warrior. Bobcats, Jaguars, Bushdogs are some creatures I haven't seen adopts for a while. Then, I think of what kind of warrior it would be. I then take some symbols, some armor and yozah! I got a design! I also read books and watch some TV to get some ideas too.

I usually just mix two species, and add and subtract what I don't like.

Lots of time music, sometimes poetry or the good story. And rarely there is the life event that brings up a character idea for me.

The only species I made is a mixture of something I love with something similar but often unheard off so I guess something you know and something that people often dont think of like a skunk, opossum, fossa, specticaled fruit bat. Theres all kinds of unique animals out there to get species inspired from, there is even a pig that smells like popcorn.
