Pace slowing as the Ocicat talked, Dumir listened silently though occasionally his ears swiveled back towards her. Could a place like that really exist? How had she been able to withstand such a wretched place and not be a wreck, but instead such a beauty as herself? It confused him, and Dumir couldn't help but feel sympathetic towards her and her owner. Xena deserved much better, and from what he had heard of her owner, so did he. The thought that they had moved here, to a quite placid neighborhood, eased his mind to a degree. He hoped, prayed, that she wouldn't have to live through something like that again. An odd instinct came to him, one to protect her. It was odd indeed for him; while he did think of himself as a gentleman, rarely did the thought of putting someone before himself occurred. Racing thoughts in his head put aside for the moment, Dumir regained his voice just as they reached the end of the fence. His own house he had passed already, and for once he didn't care if Suriana was watching and preparing to inform the others of the strange tension between the new comer and himself.
"I apologize that you had to deal with such a stressful environment, Xena, and I thank you that you told me. I'm sure it wasn't easy living through that, and hopefully you won't ever have to return. If only I could help, I would, I swear it. If only I could have been there for you then, I would have. It pains me to think that such a place can exist, and even more so that you had to grow up there. Meeting you just an hour ago has impacted me more than I ever would have dreamed any one cat could have, and I'd like to think this isn't just infatuation. I will do my best to be by your side while you remain here."
He didn't recall when, but he had turned around once more instead of jumping down onto the dark, pebbled sidewalk. Amber eyes reflecting the soft moonlight's rays, he stared into her rich green and couldn't help but wonder how his small speech ended like that. Originally the plan had been to make a small joke at the end, perhaps something about the power-hungry cats that lived in this area as well. Instead he blurted out something about infatuation; already the words were getting blurry in his head the more he stared at her. What had he said? Despite the jumbling thoughts in his mind, his physical body relaxed. Dumir fought himself, wanting to mention he was being hasty and apologize for putting her in this situation after she had just revealed her past. His maw remained shut however, though with some difficulty.
I wish I had a unicorn,
So I could fly away.
Where fun isn’t worn,
Nor people do mourn,
This is where dreams are born.

And if there was a place like this,
Would not it be quite grand?
To jump and play in fevered bliss,
Where no one can just stand?
I long to have a unicorn,
So I could learn to fly,
Yet dreams hold scorn
