Luna set it out for him, trying not to be too harsh but knowing that reality was, in this case, much harsher than she could ever tell him. "Mystery is suffering from severe internal bleeding. This means that I don't know where she is bleeding, or even if it is anywhere that I can fix. I've drained the excess blood from the most lethal spot, right next to her ribs there, and sealed it back up again. If she doesn't get infected, if she stays still long enough, if the winter comes late, and if all of the stars and planets align in her favor, then she just might have the slimmest chance of survival. Of course, by all rights she should already be dead. But she isn't, which is always good."

Iris looked at blaze silently. She hoped mystery would survive and she wished something could comfort blaze.

Mystery woke up and whimpered. She then began to panick. What happened to blaze? Was he dead? She tried standing up, only to collapse back onto the ground.

"Mystery!" Blaze lunged forwards, knocking Luna back onto her tail as he did so. Luna got back up, flicked dust from her pelt, and walked over to the pair calmly. "Mystery, you're going to have to stay where you are for a long time- a month, at the very least, longer if the bleeding takes more time to go away. The loss of blood will leave you weak and fatigued most of the time, but if you make sudden movements like that, the cobwebs will fall off and you'll start bleeding all over again."

"I wanna know if blaze is okay!" mystery whined.

"i'm gonna check on Briar." Iris said then walked into her den. "briar?" she asked quietly.

"I'm right here, Mystery." said Blaze softly, sitting next to her. "And I'm fine. I scared the bear away after it got you, but I only managed to get you back here before I passed out."

Briar got to his feet when he saw Iris come in. Yawning, he stretched and said "Morning, Iris. How's Mystery doing? And Blaze, did you or Luna tell him?"

Mystery wagged her tail and buried her face in his fur. "I thought you were killed." she said.

"Mystery is hanging on by a thread so she might die." iris admitted. "She has internal bleeding. Luna is helping her though and we both told blaze. Mystery has to rest for a long time."

Briar nodded, emerging from his den into the more or less sunlit main cave, where Mystery and Blaze were talking, and Luna standing off a bit to the side. He looked around, then asked "Where is Tal? I thought you were going out to get him last night, Luna." Luna looked sheepish. "He said he would come back, but he's not here yet."

"I'd never leave you behind, Mystery. You know that." Blaze spoke into Mystery's fur- he had placed his face lovingly next to hers. "Even if it means dying and coming back again." He didn't see Briar stiffen slightly at these words, then relax and smile softly at Iris.
