I'm beginning to regret getting Badger and Mouse now! I love them but hey have messed everything up!

I can no-longer get near Jacob and Marlo because where Badger freaks, they react to it and are now scared of me!

I can't get them all out because Badger hides behind my cupboard wall and doesn't come out for hours! I spent 6 hours trying to get him to come out on his own without me there before having to scare him out because I can't get him out any other way!

I have tried so hard to make him tame, he will take treats from me some-times but I seem to be going in circles!

Mouse is better but not 100%.

Now Jacob has been out behind there for an hour now and won't get out! Not even for food which normally works as I trained them so well!

I do block the area between the wall and the shelf off with books etc but no matter what I do they get out, mainly by climbing up and over or pushing them down! I have books wedged down there because of them which I can not remove!

What can I do? Socializing him is not working! I can't sit and cuddle him on my lap because of allergies! ;,(
Sorry for my slow response time on RP's. My new job steals ALL my time. :(

Heartbreaking decision.

I have decided I cannot keep up with breeding rats, I cannot fund it properly and I do not, in the long run, want my rats to suffer.

My breeding lines will be given to a good friend whom will continue them, which also means giving up some of my favorites.. *sigh*

I've been so sick and stressed I feel it's the right thing to do for them.

I had a rat that acted similarly. And to be honest, he never got completely socialized until he got really sick with a pituitary tumor that completely altered his personality. He just didn't want to be a cuddle boy and I couldn't change that about him even with all the love and cuddles and treats I could offer. If I touched him without his consent, he'd scream and wriggle away to hide. Eventually I learned to just let him do what he wanted. If he approached me on his own and climbed into my lap with his buddy, great! If he preferred to ignore me completely and hide under the bed, that was okay too.
I found that as long as he could get back into his cage of his own accord, he was less jumpy. I always tried to stroke him gently while he was asleep or mostly asleep so that he wasn't lucid enough to get stressed out by the contact. We came to an unspoken agreement, I respected his personal bubble and he stayed calm and came to me when he wanted to.
Anyway, in the matter of trying to keep him out from behind the cupboard, I'd suggest going to Walmart and getting those big cardboard posterboard things that students generally used to use for presentations and science fair projects. Tape a couple together and build a wall that can be set up to block off the area near your cupboard so they can't get close to it and get behind it. I built an entire pen for my little guys when they were young since I had a roommate who didn't want them under her bed. Those posterboards should be tall enough that your boys can't get over it, and if it's set up right, they won't be able to hide behind the cupboard either because they won't be able to get near it.

I haven't been on here in forever since I lost internet.

I lost Echo about two weeks ago, broke my heart. She was my momma rat, and I loved her.

On the bright side of it all, it finally gave me a chance to tame down Heely. She's such a momma's girl, and I love it. She likes to make forts in jackets and pillow, so adorable.

Also, is it normal that some rats are just really small? Gummi is about six months old, but is about the size of maybe a four month old. She's getting enough food, is completely fine energy wise, and can hold her own with the big girls, she's just small. I mean, her sister Haru is a good size considering, maybe a bit petite, but not as much as her sister. Does that just happen sometimes?

Yup its normal. I have a 2 year old rat who is the size of a 6 week old pup. She never really grew. MY other rat is only a tad bigger then she is but not by much. Compared to my other 2 females who are the size of my males <.< (theyre mother, daughter, sons) so i guess large runs in the family? the one female looks preggo but shes not, xD
[size=150]I've quit CS, tho I'm seeking Birthday date swaps for Shima LongTail, Dragon Cat PPS, Cheshire Cat, dates in pet names
