He was shaking; he could feel it. He had to be strong, couldn't show how upset he was over Jon's death, how hard Kaiba's words had hit. He had to be a stone. He was Aqua; that was how he was supposed to act. But it was so hard when there was no break, when he was always pretending.
I can't keep doing this.
"Mariah..."
He was at her door. The word should have been commanding; a summons. Instead, it came out as barely more than a murmur. He was just too tired, too upset, to speak any louder, even to call out for his best friend. He slumped against the door, trying not to fall apart completely.
"I can carry her," the pickpocket answered softly, looking down at the girl, wondering if she was awake. He couldn't really tell, but he had a feeling she was, if only barely. "She's light enough." Too light.
He placed a hand gently on the birds' back, smiling gently. "Don't be too harsh. You flew her here, hm?"
He'd always been very good at reading a person's inner thoughts, and he knew the old bird was berating herself over something. Probably the semi-concious girl in his arms.
"She'll be fine," Justin told Achan, walking next to him, Pyre's ball in both hands. He probably didn't need to say anything, but he didn't want the Pikachu to cause a scene. Not when they were on their own, with people they didn't know, in a place they didn't know. That would not be good at all.
"No, it would not be wise," the Misdreavous agreed. Her Trainer knew this and would not offer a place to the Pokemon. The electrician, however, had a good heart, and would offer all the help it was in his power to give. "You are welcome to stay with us. However, you will be expected to earn your keep, by hunting for both yourself and the humans, as I'm sure you were expected to do with your own Trainer."
She bowed her head for a moment before continuing. "However, if you choose to wait here until the ends of time, I admire your loyalty- blind as it may be."
