"Nowhere is safe," he whispered. Not anymore. At one time, he would have believed the Lucario. But he'd seen and done far too much to believe in the illusion of safety here anymore. Home is the only safe place... and home is gone.
"I'm fine," Ashley repeated, noticing the group pausing for her. She had to stop doing this! She tried to head towards their guide, but only got a few paces before a wave of dizziness made her stumble and fall. She could feel the rogue catch her, but had no energy to move, none to open her eyes. Instead, she went limp in his arms.
The pickpocket paused for a few seconds, before adjusting his grip to hold the girl bridal-style. The Treecko hopped down, and grabbed a Pokeball from his Trainer's belt, using it to return the Swellow clawing desperately to her arm. Well, this is weird, he thought, looking down at the girl. Her hair was long and dark with oil and dirt, hanging limply over his arm. Her clothes were ripped and scuffed. They were a brownish colour, but whether that was from design or the outdoors, he didn't know. She had bruises and scratches all over her body; enough to make him wonder just what had caused them.
And she was light; far too light for a girl her age. "She's very sick," he murmured sympathetically. The girl had probably survived this long only through a pure act of will.
"I understand," the Misdreavous said quietly. "We cannot force you to leave this place, but I strongly advise it. Do not throw your life away in vain hope. Your Trainer may return, but he may not. How long are you willing to wait for him?"
Rogue, through and through, the electrician thought. Already, the kid was thinking about hunting and food. Maybe he'd do alright out here, on his own. Or with them?
