I'm sick and my mind is mush, but I'm bored to tears and happened to notice the debate on labeling 'semi-literate' and 'literate.'

Bull, you created a metaphor with training dogs; hug and give treats, don't kick and scream. Except... I'm not seeing any of that. No kicking, no screaming, no hugging, and no giving treats; as far as I'm aware, semi-literate/literate and illiterate roleplayers are more or less segregated. The way I see it, nothing is happening... I've never seen any of the illiterate members complain about semi-literate/literate members, and I've never seen any of us be rude to someone who doesn't "qualify." I say that word with great hesitance as, no, I don't agree with telling people they aren't good enough.

Ugh, I keep spacing out and don't have the focus to revise that crap...

Lemme just take a moment to walk you through my experiences; when I first joined CS, I was an illiterate roleplayer. I posted two or three sentences per post, most of it dialogue, and that was that. I saw things labelled semi-literate or literate and I stayed away because, darn, I was scared stiff. But nothing ever happened to make me scared. No one had ever screamed at me because of the length I lacked in a post. No one ever tried to pressure me into writing more. Even when I started dabbling in semi-literate roleplays, everyone was very kind and considerate to me. None of my illiterate friends ever complained about the "higher-up" members... in fact, we all sort of admired the members of this club. No one begrudged me when I was accepted here.

...In short, I don't understand where you're getting the whole dog training thing.

Maybe it's because I haven't touched an illiterate roleplay in quite some time... but I don't see anyone teaching "lower" roleplayers how to improve themselves; so I agree with your point that this club doesn't offer other members help. But... I dunno, the whole screaming/kicking thing really bothered me.

...IGNORE ME I'M SELF-TAUGHT.

we did have a little rp school going earlier, and it went on for quite some time, though right now we're redoing it. all the instructors got busy because of life, school, and finals approaching and needing to make the grade ^^ there are members in this club that do help, and when smamm had control of the club, she always stated that they could pm her so she could help them improve as well :P

okay, so adding onto what i said, yes we did give tips to people who wished for them, but they either never PMed us back, or they never applied to the club. there's nothing we can do if they don't pm us back ><

i agree though, that sometimes there are those members who look down on illiterate rps. i'm not one of them. hell, i participate in them, i love them. quick, easy, efficient replies and a great stress reliever while you wait for muse to return. i mean eventually, those members will maybe start pushing themselves a little to get to a what we call "Semi-lit+" level. i don't really know what category i would fall in, because my posting amount fluctuates. it depends on what i'm given with to work with and how much time i have.

none of this made sense i think. o.e
i'll edit this if i get my thoughts cleared >>

Looking for a different person to do this plot with, since I've been waiting weeks for them to actually finish their character form and I'm getting bored waiting... I'd love someone who doesn't mind replying at least once a week please?

Bull ;; That's the premise behind iwaku too, right? I'm not sure how I feel on it. On one hand, I do agree no one should be judged based off their literacy level- we all had to start somewhere, and putting someone down just for being where you once were isn't at all right. Though, on the other hand, there's no stopping them from working just as hard as those who can claim to be 'literate' to become 'literate'. I don't know, I guess what I'm saying is while I definitely don't approve of looking down on them, I don't think it should be looked at as a discouragement as people think- rather a motivator to become even better. That's what happened for me, when I didn't get accepted the first time to this club, it just made me want to work harder to prove myself. I guess what I'm saying is that the term 'literate' shouldn't be looked at as a type of classification that labels anyone who isn't there yet as beneath those who are, rather a goal everyone should try and strive for. Or something I don't know.
Sorry to write this all out at you, this isn't really aimed at you- or me trying to shove my own ideals at you or anything, this is all just my own speculations. >u> In fact, I'd love to hear your- or really anyone's- opinion on it C:

Yes, Iwaku has the same belief system as I.

I get what you're saying, and that's a good point, but people shouldn't need to have literate/semi-literate people pushing them to get the writing results that they want. Consider it like this; if you train a dog with hugs and treats it'll learn, but so will a dog who's kicked and screamed at. Both will have the same results, but the ones that are screamed and kick will not have as much fun with learning, and will be pushing themselves to extremes that maybe they don't want. That's one thing that I have always hated about this club, is the fact that it doesn't even offer that much help to the members. You could argue that the "rping school" does something, though I have yet to see good results come from it. Some iliterate people hate us because of how we look down on them with judgement. Even though you say that you're against looking down at these people you still post here, the root of his bais.

Sorry if that last bit sounded harsh. I just no longer approve of what this club stands for.

Although I don't agree with the post, Ido agree with the last statement. This club has changed, and not hat I see in a good way. It is no longer a 'semi-literate' club, as I see no semi literate people among us, only literate. As active as the club is, I also think it should have an active owner, and while smamm can't prevent or help being busy, it's still a strong belief I have. However, we can't offer any more help to people who get 'rejected' ((harsh term, really) unless a good help place was established maintained.
However, if you didnt use some sort of system to label, how are you going to specify right of the bat who you are looking for as a partner? Or to join your role-play?

I also don't quite a agree that considering yourself literate and 'looking down upon' someone who isn't is not the same thing. I would gladly help someone who came to me asking for writing tips no matter their level. As long as you're not bashing them, I don't see a problem with simply... Avoiding them? I talk to people, am friends with people, who are illiterate, I simply don't role-play with them because it doesn't stretch my boundaries and isn't what I look to in a partner, and it would be too big of a stretch of their boundaries; I gfirmly believe people learn gradually, not all at once.
All labels do for me is tell me where you're at, where I'm at, and therefor helps finds partners and good role-plays that you would enjoy.

And if people don't ask for help, if they don't come here saying hey, help me with this, how do you offer help? The members that come here saying hey, how do I start this or how can I make this more (insert adjective) get the help they want, usually. A person who applies and isn't accepted now, if they don't message someone, how do you help them?

Okay well I had this idea a while ago but it never got any interest so I'm gonna post it here again.

Okay so basically it'd be about a society that uses these creatures called Wingcats for transportation, companions, and other things, kind of like how people used to use horses, donkeys, mules, etc. The Wingcats have two forms; a cute little normal housecat sized form where they have these little "chibi" wings, and then their huge "standard" size, in which they're about the size of an adult male tiger with wingspans of anywhere from twenty to thirty feet. And the roleplay would probably revolve around four riders (or more if more people are interested) and their Wingcats, and then maybe someone from outside of the society comes in and wants to take all the Wingcats away? Is there anyone who might be interested in that?

omg this sounds awesome. Definitely count me in, especially if both cats and riders were playable, and we could pair up with other roleplayers.
I lurk mostly. they/no pronouns.

Yeah, I was thinking about making it so that the Wingcats and humans were playable, and just have each person in the roleplay create one Wingcat and one human, and they could request who they wanted to be paired up with I guess? But it'd have to be okay'd by the Wingcat and human players.
