Radon (JMD 187 backstory)

Postby Nutheart » Sun Jun 16, 2013 5:01 pm

Radon was a different JMD.
Then he met someone who changed him.

He was playing in front of his frontyard, chasing a butterfly that was sporting his fur colors. He ran into a short pink JMD with black stripes and a black jewel.
"Sorry, miss!" Radon squeaked as she glared daggers at him, seeming to grow taller within a nanosecond as she puffed up in anger.
"Don't 'sorry' me, peewee. Watch where you're going!" Radon found himself sprawling from a smack from her tail. He yelped in fear and hit his face in his curled up forelegs, body racked with shudders.
"I'll look where I'm going next time!" he wailed, hoping for this JMD to leave him alone. But of course he wasn't very lucky.
The JMD smirked, placing a paw on his back, right between his wings, and stepped down hard, making him scream and claw frantically at the ground in an effort to get away from her. She only stepped down harder until there was a soft cracking noise. Radon's wings started to violently twitch, not of his free will.
"Oops," she said in mock apology, stepping off him with a fake gasp. "Did I hurt you?"
Radon whimpered and tried to get his wings back under control, until one had a particularly violent spasm and smacked his tormenter in the chest decently hard.
She was snarling and about to do something to him when a voice called "Minerva?" in a trembling manner.
Minerva narrowed her eyes. "Don't think I'm done with you yet, peewee. Or should I call you Butterfly-Boy?"
"My n-name's R-radon," he muttered, wings twitching even more violently as Minerva got back in his face.
"I get to choose what to call you. I get to choose a lot of what HAPPENS to you, too. And I'll be back, Butterfly-Boy. You're fun to play with." Minerva smirked and then ran off.
Radon stood up, winced at his back pain and twitching wings, then sprinted back toward his house with tear-filled eyes.

Radon was back in the front yard, this time getting ready to go for a walk. Soon he was galloping down the street pretty merrily...and then his heart dropped out of his feet as his wings gave a might involuntary jerk.
Minerva was down the street, walking at a casual pace toward him. His legs locked in fear, and he shuddered, letting out a rattling whimper. Minerva smirked as she stepped past him, then kicked him from behind as she passed, knocking him down.
"What's the matter, Butterfly-Boy? Getting weak-kneed? I'm way out of your league, you know!"
Radon growled and jerked his tail, smacking Minerva with the gray jewel on the end. Minerva exploded, slamming a paw on his head and driving his snout into the ground, painfully. Radon screamed and Minerva narrowed her eyes as she leaned in to whisper in his ear. "Try that crap again and you'll wake up in the woods. Got that, peewee?"
Minerva relented on shoving Radon's face into the dirt, but then she casually sank her claws into Radon's shoulder to hold the terrified little boy down. "So, what were you doing today? Chasing butterflies, hunting fairies or taming unicorns? Waiting for a prince to save you, princess?"
Radon let out an angry sob as in a burst of strength, he threw Minerva off and got to his paws.
"STOP SAYING THAT!" he wailed, flinging himself at Minerva, claws outstretched and baby teeth bared. He and Minerva became a tangle of fur before Radon was pinned down again, various new wounds all over him bleeding a little bit. Minerva had a somewhat more severe scratch on her shoulder, but was overall better off than Radon.
"You. Woods. Tomorrow." Minerva snarled in between heavy breaths.
Radon growled softly, but didn't have enough energy left for another burst of strength.
And then genetics saved him.
His jewels suddenly blazed with blindingly bright light, and Minerva yelped as she ducked her hurt eyes behind a wing. Radon's now-yellow jewels didn't stop shining, so Minerva had to run.
Radon stopped his jewels from glowing and started limping back home, planning to just hibernate for the rest of the day after cleaning himself up. He'd just tell his family he had a nasty accident in some brambles. He was already the wimpier son. No need to reveal that he now had a special bully as well.

Re: Radon (JMD 187 backstory)

Radon had been invited by his older brother Adrastos to play paintball with some neighborhood kids in the woods. It had been a few weeks since his first encounter with Minerva, and she had not let up. He had been absolutely miserable, locking himself away from his older siblings Adros and Melodious. He only agreed to learn how to play paintball because then he could learn how to fire a paintball gun. Self Defense.
But as he crouched behind a tree, holding his gun and wearing a bright green visor, watching a dragon from the rival team, he felt a thrill. He'd already shot and gotten-out 2 others. He was a natural with a paintball gun. He loved it. He loved the crack of the pellet shattering when it hit, the splatter of his team's blue paint on their rivals' fur. The weird faces their rivals made when they were hit with a paintball. Radon was loving every flipping second of this. He was in THE ZONE.
With another shot of the gun, Radon had gotten another JMD out. Oh, yes.
The blue team ended up winning that day. Radon got out himself toward the end, but he ended up refusing to wash off the red paint. It was a battlescar, and battlescars made people look tough, right? He also kept the visor, since he thought it made him look cool. Hey, coolkid, you're a paintball champ.
He strutted outside the next day to face down Minerva. She merely raised an eyebrow.
"Who're you tryin' to impress, space cadet? Or are you a tribal warrior with a ceremonial splatter tattoo? I can't tell." She continued bullying as normal until Radon pulled out his paintball gun and lit up his yellow jewels.
"You're out!" he yelled, pelting Minerva in blue paintballs. But she stood her ground, shooting eye-daggers at him. No way was she losing to a kid...who was shining blindingly bright light in her eyes now. She turned her back and waited for the kid to use up all his ammo.
"I ran out?" Radon whimpered as he fruitlessly tried to get his empty gun to work by smacking it.
The blue-splattered Minerva turned to snarl at him. "Yup. Guess what else ran out? Your luck."
The bully sprang at him, wrenched the gun from his paws, then sent him sprawling with a whack from her tail. Radon growled back but Minerva wasn't fazed in the least. Her black jewels pulsed with a dim light as she pounced on him again.

Radon came home with a pretty bad limp, putting barely any weight on his right forepaw but still wincing a lot.
"You okay?" Adros asked, noticing his brother's limp.
"I fell from a tree I was climbing," Radon lied, going to his room to sulk some more.
Adros narrowed his eyes but didn't speak.
In his room, Radon loaded his gun with more paintballs, then went back outside with a piece of cardboard and a marker. He drew a JMD on the cardboard, then played sniper and tried to shoot the drawing right in the eye. After 10 tries he got it, then hit it three times in a row a while later.
Adros wandered outside, then said, "Woah, Radon! What're you doing? You never shoot another paintball player in the eye on purpose, okay? The others will ban you from playing if you pull that even once during a game, okay?"
Radon reluctantly nodded, since he had a legitimate joy for paintball now. But he would keep honing his aim so he could show Minerva who was boss!

OH NO

Postby Nutheart » Thu Jul 18, 2013 5:21 am

I, sadly, have lost all inspiration/motivation for this, but that doesn't mean I can't summarize what I would've written, had I not gotten serious writer's block.
Radon's theme is "Radioactive." He wakes up and he enters a new age.
He slowly becomes more resistant to Minerva's taunting, becomes more tough guy, turns more and more to playing paintball to soothe him. Eventually Minerva leaves him alone, as there are easier JMDs to mess with and he isn't worth her time now.
He went from somewhat girlish and happy-go-lucky to serious, tough, and quiet.
Welcome to the new age.
