Midnight's Thunder

Midnight's lifted his head up from the ground, a clump of lush, green grass still sticking out the side of his mouth. He finished chewing, and walked a out from under the blazing sun. He stopped under a maple tree and whinnied hoping to find someone to talk to. He knew most horses problem wouldn't come to him, but it was worth a try....

He snorted and raised himself above the grass, a large indentation from where he had rested. Ghost Chilli was slightly depressed after the dream, when his life turned from good to bad in seconds. The stallion raised his ears up as many a call drifted on the rather rough breeze. A small clearing just through the forest seemed appealing to Ghost Chilli at this point in time. The yellow grasses swayed, bundled between large clumps were fresh patches of green grass. "What's going on with this place?" He pondered quietly, as he scented the air. "Another stallion!" Ghost mumbled, letting out a long neigh announcing his presence and warning him to stay away. A few soft nickers' left his mouth.
Ghost Chilli was back with Maya and Desert Lilly, his only mares. They were strong but respected him. They had just foaled and three little bundles of joy trundled about him. Maya nursed her single foal contently, it looked a lot like Maya but would soon be almost as big as Ghost Chilli. The stallion chuckled, it echoed like with most dreams that seemed hazed. Ghost Chilli had a smile slowly creeping across his face, "Ah...the good old days" He muttered as he gently lowered his head, as the memories turned from good to bad.

Mystery looked up and down the stallion once more as she thought about the unknown answer to Archer's question. "Only if you can protect me." she said The paint mare began to paw the ground leaving a patch of mud where green grass once was. One blue eye looked at the bay stallion before Mystery stood next to him and nudged him with her pink nose. "Lead the way." she uttered.

Archer nodded curtly,"Of course." She seemed willing to go with him, which was different than what he was used to. He stood, a bit taken aback, but recovered quickly, "This way." The stallion said, leading her down the hill. He walked towards a small grove of trees. He figured that they weren't thick enough to hide predators.

Caprice heard a stallion's call, not too far off. She could tell it was to warn off stallions but she followed the noise. He was close by and before long, she could see him. A draft stallion. He seemed lost in memories, aside from an occasional mutter. The mare chose not to go down and greet him, but rather to stand and watch, ears pricked forward.

The wind whistled as he stood, lowering his head to graze again. He was bored with nothing to do, "Where is everyone?" He asked, still muttering but still quite loud. Walking forward, he nibbled bit by bit. Taking another step, slowly eating his way through a rather large patch of grass. His white tail and long heavy feathers billowed behind him. His mane swaying gently in the breeze as his forelock impaired his vision further. Shaking it away, he came across a daffodil. If he had a mare with him, he would give it to her. It's leaves where bright saffron yellow, it was purt or upright unlike that others which drooped ever so lightly.
The memories kept resurfacing, he hoped once he found mare it would take it off his mind or at least push it back, to the rear of his head. The stallion, left the daffodil and was careful not to stand on it, placing his hooves elegantly around it as Ghost continued to graze. Large birch and maple tree's swayed in the rough current of air as it danced and twisted through their green leaves. Snorting as dust blew up in his face, Ghost lay down and rolled over on his back. Relieving an ever persistent itch and parasites that bit at his flesh. A small wound had opened, it would soon attract flies although they were busy attacking his face. It was may fly season and they swarmed most water sources at this time of year.

Ace of Spades

As Hicktown had caught up to him, Spade noticed how much more confident she had become, and he couldn't repress the gentle smile on his muzzle. She was a fast learner indeed, and Spade mentally praised the speed at which she had picked this up. It had taken a lot out of her though, and he saw a shiny sheen of sweat glistening on her coat. At that, he felt slightly worried for the mare, but was also quite relaxed. With this distance, no other horse would be able to climb to them and still have enough strength to fight. A sneak attack from below was now impossible. Also, with all the grass, Spade knew there was water nearby, so they could rest at the cave first, then get some water, before having some greatly needed sleep.

At her words though, Spade looked at her, worry bursting into his usually blank eyes. His ears were perked on her now, completely focused on the petite mare in front of him. At her preposition, Spade's ears immediately flicked back, showing his dislike of the idea. He knew that there might be something dangerous out there, and his instincts wanted him to be in between her and danger. He wanted to go along with his instincts, but the rational part of his mind spoke of the pros, and his ears slowly relaxed, before focusing on her again. Hicktown looked tired, but she was right in saying that it would be easier for her. Fighting his instinctive response, he snorted, relaxing. Finally, he nodded, seeing the sense in the idea. The stallion walked up to Hicktown, deliberating on what to say. There was so much he could say, but the socially awkward stallion was at a loss for words. Finally he touched his nose to her withers, nuzzling her, before he stepped back. "Stay safe." He murmured quietly, before backing away so that she had access to a flatter slope which she could use to get to the cave.

Blanche shook her head. "Won't matter," she stated softly. "Fell apart." She knew that the moment she picked Judge's side and Lily stepped away from the two of them, something had changed between the two. Blanche no longer felt Lily would protect her to the death, nor she did she consider them to be near sisters. Now, they were two separate beings, drifting through the world on their own paths, like two perpendicular lines, crossing once and then never seeing each other again. She felt his nose against her neck and shied away from him, tucking her ears back and moving a few paces away. "Sorry you could not have us both," she stated, looking at him once again as she turned to face the broad-shouldered stallion.

Slew's Verdict
Judge shook his chiseled head in disagreement with her last statement."I believe deep down that she would not have been happy with a stallion.There are horses born to be free of a herd."Once more he touched a velvety gray muzzle to Blanche's shoulder,trying to help ease what sadness just had to be under the surface with unspoken words.Attempting to convey between them what he could not speak.It was evident something had changed in the moments following Blanche's decision,but he could only guess how deep that would run within the white mare.

Hollywood Hicktown

Doubt began to work icy fingers into her thoughts as Hicktown continued to look at the path to the cave.Her mind now was in overdrive,projecting horrifying images onto the black backdrop that her closed eyes provided.Only her hyperactive imagination kept the palomino from making a path and going onward.Thoughts of the warning pounded into her head in her foal hood now flooded her senses,making her body tense up and heart pound against her chest.Calm down she told herself,forcing her eyes open and scanning up the slope,looking for the most sturdy areas and mapping them out.

"If you hear something weird,please run."Holly turned and fixed a pleading look Spade's way."I will be able to get down."How's that for reassuring?Nuzzling the large stallion's neck the mare began her way upwards,her steps stiff at first but quickly loosening up.Now she would need to focus on every step she took,every sound around her,and how sturdy each area was.
