"I know what you mean. All of the bird kids together...in one spot..." he replied to Max quietly, "I don't like where this is going."
He agreed it was eerily coincidental. He wasn't sure what exactly was going on. Maybe if someone was plotting, they were hoping to distract them with shiny new bird kids? His breakfast churned uneasily in his stomach.

MAX

I nodded, a tiny gesture. "I think we should talk to the rest of the flock about this," I murmured quietly, my lips barely moving as I spoke. I looked at the others, putting on another smile. "It's great to meet you guys, but we gotta get back home. The others are waiting for us." I looked at Jacob, Chayse, and Amy all in turn. "I would appreciate it if you guys just hung out here until we come back...I need to think, and I'm sure you do too." I sighed, running my fingers through my hair, then turned to Fang. "Up and away?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

Fang nodded in agreement, then turned back to the new avians. "See you around," he said, then spread his massive wings, took a running start and shot into the air.
He scanned the area. For some reason, he felt protective of Jake, Chayse and Amy. He didn't want them to be hurt, even though he'd only known them for a short while. Maybe it was because he knew how it felt to be alone.
The area looked clear as far as he could see as he rose higher and higher into the air.
He wanted to get home as fast as he could to check on the Flock. He looked back at Max. He wanted her to be safe, too. Just the thought of her being seriously hurt killed him.
He wished he could keep everyone he loved close by so he could make sure no one ever hurt them more than they already had.
But of course, on the outside he was Fang. And nothing bothered Fang.

Kirose looked up to see Max and Fang becoming distant outlines in the sky. She had stayed in earshot, and heard the conversation. "Am I the only one not overreacting?" She shrugged, and spread her wings, leaping into the air, and flying back to the cliff. She landed easily on the edge, and looked at Amy, Jake, and Chayse in turn. "What an interesting bunch." She sighed, and ran her hand through her hair. She slipped off her long leather jacket, and layed it down on the rock before sitting down.

MAX

I nodded and unfurled my wings, turning after Fang and running three steps before shoving down, pressing against the air and pushing into the air. I looked back over my shoulder at the avians, finding myself thinking that I shouldn't have gone. I shivered lightly and shrugged it off, turning to face forwards and stroking the air with my wings to catch up with Fang. "I don't know what to think," I said, raising my voice so it could be heard above the rush of wind over our wings.

"Me either," Fang replied, "I guess we should just stay alert for a while and be careful. But I don't think those other bird kids are any threat. They seemed kind of interesting, actually." As they flew farther and farther, he still stayed alert, his ears straining for the sound of the whirring of helicopter blades and his eyes open for the ugly Erasers. A couple of times, he thought he saw something large and dark passing beneath the canopy of the forest below, or heard the bark of an Eraser, but he guessed it was nothing. He was more paranoid than usual and he hated it.

MAX

I nodded in agreement, my own ears and eyes open to searching the forest below us and the cliffs at our sides. "I agree; they might be a decoy, but they don't seem very evil...the mute was very friendly." I frowned in thought, pumping my wings rhythmically and then coasting on the updraft that caught my feathers beneath me. "I just don't know."

Fang landed on the cliff near the house once they arrived and tucked his wings away. As soon as he started making his way towards the house, Nudge came outside looking troubled. "Max, Fang, I think we need to talk," she said.
Fang looked at her worriedly. This couldn't be good. He looked back at Max. "What's up?" he asked Nudge.
"When were you going to tell us about this?" she asked heatedly, looking from Max to Fang as she held up the paper with Chayse's birth information.
Fang read it with his arms crossed, then his eyes widened in surprise. He couldn't speak.

MAX

I moved over to Nudge and Fang, reading the paper over Fang's shoulder. "Oh, my God," I said quietly, my eyes widening as I continued to read. "Fang, that's the girl that we saw at the cliff." I stiffened, reading even more before my eyes popped even wider. "She's your sister," I breathed, my voice shocked into near silence.

He'd heard Max, but she had just clarified everything he didn't want to believe. "Where did you find this, Nudge?" Fang said, clenching his jaw while he waited for an answer. This must have been some sort of cruel joke. Who would keep two siblings apart for years, making them both believe they were alone in the world with no real family? Oh yeah, the same people who would graft foreign DNA into egg cells. If he hated the whitecoats before, now he was ready to rip them apart one by one until the world was free of their vile existence.
It's bad enough they had done this to Max, and the Flock, but he always imagined if he had any biological family, he would protect them with everything he had. But they didn't even have the decency to tell him she existed so he could of at least make sure she escaped with the Flock.
He was seething with hatred.
"It was behind your paper," Nudge replied quietly. She could see she'd hurt Fang. So Max and Fang hadn't known about it after all? She felt bad for thinking they would hide something like this from the Flock.
