Maera

Postby Kodabomb » Tue Jun 04, 2013 9:42 am

This is written from Maera's point of view. Action......

My wings were heavily tiring as I beat them harder and harder to fly upwards. Not even a destination, just up. I was so exhausted; not by how much we’d flown but how little air there was. I was cold and tired and could barely keep up. I had big wings, but not much flying experience.
I glanced upwards and saw Flare was having the same trouble. Looking down, Tenebris was OK. He was using magic and didn’t need to breathe so heavily. Whirlwind and Syrenix were just determined to fly.
I looked past Tenebris and saw that the ground was really tiny. In the far distance I could see Skyrithia, the place we’d been only a few hours ago. Syrenix was coming with us to help get us in.
I could feel the wind of the storm that was only 200 metres from where we were. It was terrifyingly scary. And strange. It was so solid and raging, and just dropped off onto plain, bare skies over the dirt desert below us.
“We’re nearly at the top! Keep flying! I’ll put up a force-field in a second!” cried Whirlwind.
“Whirl, I need one now!” gasped Flare. I took big breaths, getting barely any air each time. I felt tears stain my cheeks; it was rather painful.
“OK, I suppose it’s time. Whirl, the little ones are exhausted.” Said Syrenix gently
“I’m not little. I’m an adult.” I pouted.
“Alright.” Sighed Whirlwind. He stopped and we all gathered around him. “Syren, work with me. We’ll do it together.”
Suddenly the two alicorns lit up their horns with yellow magic, that began to shimmer its way towards us. Syrenix was on the outside, helping to cover us in the bubble.
I shuddered, watching it come over us. I huddled up with Tenebris and Flare. It formed a shell under out hooves and then crawled up and around. Soon it joined with a flash of light and sparks, and we were sealed inside. It was creepy. I didn’t like being so trapped, and I gasped for air.
“Ssh, Maera. You’re just claustrophobic.” Soothed Whirlwind. I nodded and gulped.
“OK, I have a spell that will feed you constant oxygen.” Said Syrenix’s muffled voice from outside the bubble. I fluttered over, and gently set my hooves down. The bottom was solid. I pressed my front hooves up against the wall.
Syrenix’s horn lit up again, and she placed the tip on the side of our shield. Gradually, I felt my breathing steady. I gasped in big breaths of air, relishing it. I’d never been so grateful of breathing… except when I got pushed underwater once as a filly. I never swam again after that…
In a moment Syren lifted her horn off. She shook her head with a chuckle. “You all look so funny in that big golden ball.” She laughed.
“Thank you, Syren.” Smiled Whirlwind, ignoring her comment. “But, we must go. The Princesses can’t survive much longer...”
“Goodbye! I know you’ll make it!” called his sister, as Whirlwind’s horn lit up. He steadily held the bubble around us in his magic and levitated it upwards, towards the darkening sky.
I squeaked and Flare, Tenebris and I did a big group hug. I squeezed them tight, utterly terrified by now. We were going into Death Points in just a few minutes.
Soon we had reached the top. My eyes were squeezed shut, and so were Flare’s. But Tenebris poked us both.
“Girls, look!” he said. I opened my eyes and looked around. Stretched out before us was the strangest thing I’d ever seen. Miles upon miles was a huge, flat, raging, swirling desert of clouds. It looked flat, but looking closer you could see how rough and furious it was, violently throwing all kinds of vicious weather out. We couldn’t see all of it, but I shuddered at the thought of what the centre looked like... I just pictured something that resembled a black hole.
But out of it, in this big wall, was a massive mountain range. It went all the way around like a wall of pointed, jagged, spikes.
“And how in the name of Celestia do you expect we get inside that?” huffed Flare.
“Very, very dangerously. And I am literally beating myself up inside to think that I’m endangering the lives of two teenagers and a fragile young mare.” Replied Whirlwind with a big breath.
“Ha! Danger is my middle name!” yelled Flare.
“Flare, you have like 47 middle names by what you’ve told over the years. Eating, food, singing, yelling, being quiet, cabbage, Wildfire, hairbrush, pony, unicorn...” replied Whirlwind.
“Yes, yes, but danger is the best one.” Grinned the purple alicorn.
“OK, well, this what I need you three to do. We’re going to fly out over these clouds, OK? We were originally going to land on a mountain and go down but... this is quicker.” Said Whirlwind. “When we’re out to the right spot, and do not question me with anything, we’re going to drop straight down. Do not spread your wings. Do not attempt to levitate yourself. Do not speak. Do not let go of each other. Do you understand??” He was very serious now.
“Yes.” We all said together.
“Hold your breath too. The shield will break, there’s no denying it. Leave everything else to me, I swear on my own life that you three will be OK.” He said sternly. My knees began to shake. I was not brave. Tenebris sort of nodded awkwardly and Flare puffed out her chest, bravest of all.
Whirlwind then pulled us upwards more, then went out. I lifted myself off the force-field floor, feeling slightly safer. Down beneath us was the storm, it looked like it wanted to swallow us up. I gulped.
We had a bit to go yet. It would take a while to cross the mountain range.

* * *
I was practically hyperventilating. We’d far crossed the mountains and we heading further out over the vicious sea.
Then, with a lurch, we stopped.
I gasped and wrapped my hooves around Flare and Tenebris. I didn’t want to fall. I didn’t want to just drop down into the unknown...
Whirlwind gulped. “Are you ready?” he asked. I shook my head. But it wasn’t a question. So I continued breathing at an abnormal rate.
“One,” said Flare.
“Two,” I breathed.
“Three...” choked Tenebris.
“Now!” yelled Whirlwind. All of a sudden he released his magic from around the force-field, and every breath of air left my body. Tenebris’s hooves were thrown around Flare and I. My body seized up and I screamed. My throat hurt and so did my ears as I felt Flare’s holler in them as well. Suddenly they were pierced further by a huge smashing sound, as the shield around our bodies smashed into a million pieces by the killing wind. Only a second later did I feel the tiny bullets of the murderous weather that bit away at my skin and tore my wings. I screamed louder, not knowing what was going on. I was suspended, but falling at unimaginable rates toward the earth.
Suddenly I felt something bump into me and realised that Whirlwind had his whole body wrapped around the three of us, his wings forming a cocoon over us. I continued to scream, burying my face into Tenebris’s chest.
“NO!” I heard Whirlwind cry when all of a sudden I felt a massive bump. We hit the ground all too fast, but it was protected by the King’s half-shield. I felt snow bite at my face again as I began tumbling down a hill. I didn’t know anything, but I saw an immense brown shape approaching. A rock ledge. I was still clutched onto Flare and my brother, and I screamed as we nearly hit the rock...
But before I could feel it, my body was caught in a big purple aura. I gasped and suddenly knew that Flare was holding onto me, and she flung me off. Her magic abruptly vanished and I choked as I felt myself hit the ground with one final thump.
I gasped. I choked and scrambled. My body was in pain. My head hurt, my shoulder was cut somehow and I could barely move and simply flail my hooves in the air.
I was getting buried in snow, but noticed a small rocky overhang. I used all my leftover energy to drag myself under it, just to get a grip on the situation.
I lay there. My hooves had frozen, and the blood from my sliced shoulder was seeping onto the ground under me. But not even it was warm. It was freezing and clotting, and I could smell it... but the sickening fumes and the muscle-solidifying cold wasn’t my worry, it was where the other were.
I peered out from my little shelter, squinting into the snow. I couldn’t hear anything but the wind. I couldn’t see any dark shapes that resembled a pony at all. I pressed my lips together. I was even more terrified.
“Hello?” I croaked. It was hopeless. Sound wouldn’t carry well at all like this...
I wondered how far away they were. Flare was close enough before to be able to levitate me... so must be close, I thought.
I shakily stood and looked about again. Nothing. May as well go looking.
I set off into the blizzard, folding my wings tight on my shivering, frozen body. I stumbled through the powdery snow, searching randomly.
“Anypony? Whirlwind? Flare? Tenebris?” my voice was so flat... it couldn’t even echo. “Please?”

* * *
I stood at the edge of a rock. Oh crap. I hadn’t been here before... maybe I went in the wrong direction. My tears had already dried up, so I continued to wail. I only cried to see if they’d notice me...
I collapsed in a sad, shivering, pathetic little heap. The snow piled up around me within seconds, falling down my face and off my nose.
I sniffled and choked, now just making noise for the sake of making noise. Nothing was going to hear me...
After a few minutes, I decided to get up, and I shook the snow from my body.
I walked a few paces up the slope, over the rocks. I glanced over the edge of the ledge.
Suddenly something caught my eye. I squinted. Flashing sparks of light. Light? And it was blue... I knew that Tenebris’s magic was black, Flare’s was purple, and Whirlwind’s was yellow. So who had blue magic?
I knew it was a bad move, but I spread my wings and soared from the edge of the cliff. I was caught in the wind, but before I could be blown off I had landed in the snow again. The flashed continued, and as I moved closer I heard voices.
“Hello?” I called. I moved closer.
“What? Who goes there?” cried a female voice. “Wildfire?”
“No!” I yelled back.
As I went closer, I saw a pink shape move out of the snow and wind. She walked towards me.
And then she was right in front of me.
Tall, pink, with flaming red, orange and blue hair. She had shining, beautiful, blue and red eyes.
“Oh my goodness! Another pony!” exclaimed the alicorn. Alicorn? I gasped.
“Are you a princess?” I asked, rather stupidly.
“Hold on, are you... Maera?” she asked in surprise. She knew my name? Was it from the letter. “I’m Princess Sparkle Flame... OH MY CELESTIA you’re with Father, aren’t you? Is he here? Has he come to save us?”
“Yes,” I started.
“Come on! Quickly!” she cried in excitement. Sparkle Flame began to gallop away, and I limped after her.
Within moments we’d arrived at a massive boulder that seemed to plug the side of the hill. Sparkle Flame threw up her head and all of a sudden a massive blue shield was erected over our heads. The wind stopped, and I watched the weather pound at the translucent wall.
She then used her magic to pull the boulder away from the hill, and nudged me in. I looked inside. I was in a tunnel! I nerved, low-roofed tunnel, that led into a room. Then I heard a crack and a thump, as Sparkle threw herself inside.
That’s when I noticed two other ponies standing in there too. Alicorns. Both white with fiery mane. One of them had her flaming hair down, the other had hers in a high pig-tail.
“Sparkle, who...?” asked one of them.
“Oh! Maera, these are Fire-Fighter and Wildfire, my sisters.” Said the Princess. I’d heard of those names... after I left school I had nothing to do with the outside world, so I’d only heard of them as a filly.
“Um, your highnesses...” I whispered, bowing.
“It’s alright.” Smiled Sparkle.
“Where are you from? How did you get here? Is there anypony else with you?” demanded Fire-Fighter.
“Um, well, yes. I um... came here with your Father and two others... Tenebris and Flare.” I mumbled.
“Oh my Celestia!” squealed Wildfire. “Really? Father’s here? Has he come to rescue us?” I nodded.
“Well, where are they?” asked Fighter.
“I don’t know... but I’m sure they’ll find me. Whirlwind is so determined.” I replied.
“How long have you been looking?” asked Sparkle.
“I don’t really know... maybe around a week or more? That’s when I joined them. Flare had originally been with Whirlwind, then Tenebris, then me.” I answered. “We’d only just found out how to get into this place this morning.”
“How far are we from the Empire?” asked Fighter.
“Well, I know we’ve been over Opal Kingdom, Volglacia, some other tiny states, and we’ve visited Staria and Skyrithia.” I said.
“Wow, if they’ve helped you then we might have to add them to the Peace Agreement...” muttered Sparkle. “Um, do you know what’s happening in the Empire?”
“No. I had no idea what was going on until Whirlwind and the others let me join them. My town hadn’t been hit by the storms.” I said. Wildfire pursed her lips.

Flare

Postby Kodabomb » Thu Jun 06, 2013 8:23 pm

This is written from Princess Flare's point of view. There's a little tiny bit toward the start that you'll either love or hate... It's been lingering for a while and a few of you have picked it up. XD
Image
“Flare! Flare!” I heard a desperate voice yell. “Flare where are you?” the voice cracked and began to wail.
“Who is it?” I croaked as loud at I could, into the swirling mass of snow and wind. “Whirlwind?”
“No! No Flare! It’s Tenebris!” the voice yelled back.
“Tenebris!” I gasped. I tried to run forward, but the ice lashed at my face, causing agonising pain. The frost bite had already claimed my ears and my front hoof… I screamed.
“Flare! No! Are you OK?”
“Tenebris!” I continued to yell. I didn’t know where his voice was coming from, and I couldn’t see a step in front of me. “Please!”
“I’m coming!” he called.
So I tried listening for him again. I shuffled forward, trying to ignore the agony. It was awful… I was so cold and frost-bitten that I was burning… As I continued forward, all of a sudden my hoof gave way. I tumbled, head-over-hooves, down into the solid snow, crashing through into it. The ice claimed my body and my head stuck out.
But I knew it wasn’t for much longer. The snow was coming down all too fast. “Tenebris! Please! Help me!” I screamed.
A few extremely painful seconds passed before all of a sudden the snow ahead of me was lit up with blue light. I gasped.
All of a sudden Tenebris leapt towards me.
Image
Immediately he began to throw the snow off me with his magic, desperately trying to free me. When it was off, he grabbed me in his magic and took off into the blizzard.
He ran for a few metres, before he suddenly lay me over his back. By now my entire body couldn’t move, and I could barely breathe. But he continued to run.
In moment he suddenly skidded to a sharp halt and ducked under a rocky overhang. We were partially sheltered. He set me down. As I lay helplessly on my back, he lay down next to me, looking into my eyes with concern.
But his eyes were strange. Whether I was hallucinating or not, I suddenly noticed that from the corners of his eyes a faint, glowing, swirling, aura was emitted. Just like what I’d seen from Hiem illustrations and Whirlwind’s and my close encounter with one.
“Tenebris, your eyes…” I whispered, trying to peer closer. He gasped and shut his eyes tight, before opening them and blinking twice. The aura vanished. “Huh? Tenebris what are you…?”
“Flare, ssh, it doesn’t matter,” he started.
“Yes, it does! What the hay is with your eyes?” I demanded, pain flooding through my body again. I winced.
“It’s nothing… hereditary.” He muttered. “Ssh, you’re in pain.” He shuffled closer and put his head over my back. My shivering slowed slightly. I sighed.
“Hereditary?” I wondered. “So, it comes from your parents?”
“It’s just… please Flare, leave it alone. It’s… shameful to me.” He murmured into my back. I opened my mouth to retaliate. Knowing I was about to rant again, Tenebris quickly lifted his head and placed his hoof over my mouth.
“But,” I yelled into his hoof. It just sounded like a jabbering murmur.
“Flare, please,” he said, lifting it off. I opened my mouth and prepared my lungs for more yapping. His hoof was already tucked under his body so he couldn’t stop me.
“Tenebris, tell me what the freaking hay your eyes are doing or I’ll,” and before I could talk any more, something had definitely shut my mouth up.
My eyes widened and I looked up and saw that Tenebris’s lips were pressed firmly against mine. My heart skipped a beat and I just stared. I kissed him back, freaking out. He was warm and gentle…
He released. “Ugh, can’t you just be quiet?” he demanded.
“You just kissed me.” I said in the flattest tone I’d ever done.
“I just whatted you?” he asked.
“Kissed! What the…” I stammered.
“I couldn’t put anything else over your mouth! My hoof is stuck.” He growled at his hoof. “You talk too much,”
“Tenebris, do you even know what kissing is?” I asked, bewildered.
“No.” he narrowed his eyes.
“Wow… it felt awesome though.” I grinned. “Do it again.”
“Do what?”
“Kiss me!”
“Put my lips on yours?” he gasped. I nodded.
And then they met mine again. My stomach filled my butterflies and he warmed me up. Passionately, I kissed him back. He was so nice… I’d kissed other stallions before, but he was amazing.
All of a sudden he released again, leaving me gasping. He sort of sat there, looking at me with a fascinated expression.
“Is this what ponies do their friends?” he asked.
“This is what ponies do to their love interests.” I replied with a giggle.
“Love interests?” he stammered. I nodded. Suddenly his cheeks went red. “Wow…”

* * *

My body was so much warmer. Tenebris and I had been stuck under the ledge for hours, keeping each other warm as we waited…
Soon it came across me that I didn’t actually know what we were waiting for. Would Whirlwind even find us? Was he with Maera?
I shut my eyes tighter, snuggling them further into Tenebris’s front hooves. His head was till leaning on my back.
All of a sudden he lifted it off. I felt a cold chill. “Tenebris?”
“I can hear somepony…” he whispered. “Stay here, you’re still pretty frozen.” I obeyed as he stood up and went out. He winced at the wind suddenly hit him, and his jet-black mane began to wildly billow everywhere.
I watched him as he called out. I was anxious, not wanting him to leave. I didn’t want to be alone… I fretted, seeing just his tail by then.
And all of a sudden he was gone. “Tenebris! Come back!” I called, freaking out. Was he coming back? I didn’t want to lose him again.
I was just about to stand when I saw two figures come out of the blizzard again. I held my breath. As they became clearer, I saw that Tenebris had returned; with Whirlwind.
I sighed with relief, beaming broadly as they approached. “Whirlwind!” I called. He smiled.
“Flare!” He cried, coming over to me. “Are you two OK?”
“Yes, we’re good… Have you seen Maera?” I asked.
“Maera? I thought she was with you.” He replied, puzzled.
“Oh no…” muttered Tenebris.
“We need to find her! Now we’re looking for three princesses and a Pegasus! Ugh, we’re going to need to bring in the flipping army…” I grimaced. I staggered to my hooves and Tenebris put himself under me for support. I smiled.
“OK, come on.” Said Whirlwind.
We set out into the snow. Tenebris and I went on either side of Whirlwind and he spread his wings over our bodies for protection. I shivered again.
“Wait, could the compass be any use?” I wondered.
“No, because if we don’t know the direction of the princesses or Maera, we won’t know what direction to go in.” replied Whirlwind. I pouted. He was right.
Then I remembered the foreign language riddle! I gasped. “Whirlwind, give me the compass!” I cried.
“Flare I,”
“Please? I have an idea.” I whined. He sighed and levitated the compass out of the saddle bag. I grabbed it and flipped open the lid. I held the device very close to my face.
Quae in manifesto duco, desperatis in tempore fium semita.
Said the little tiny words engraved in the lid to blend in with the patterns.
“Whirl, do you know how to read foreign languages?” I asked the King.
“Many… what kind of languages?” he asked suspiciously.
“Well, dead languages?” I offered.
“Dead languages? Yes, I do know a few. They’re very fascinating. In fact,” before he could finish his sentence (or start his rant, whichever), I shoved the compass under his nose.
“See the tiny writing? Read it.” I commanded him. He looked surprised. We stopped. We were slightly in a sheltered area. Whirlwind squinted at the writing.
“Oh, that’s easy!” he smiled.
“Translate it!” I snarled.
“It means,” he cleared his throat. “In plain sight I guide the points, in desperate search I light the path.”
“What does that,” started Tenebris.
“Oh my goodness Flare! Why didn’t you tell me this earlier? It’s a riddle!” cried Whirlwind in pure delight. “Wow!”
“Well I knew that, I didn’t know it was important.” I mumbled.
“I think I know what it means…” he mumbled. “In plain sight I guide the points… what does that mean?”
“I know! It must mean if something’s not very important, or if you already know where it is, it just shows the geographical compass points. North, South, East and West.” I said, proud of myself.
“Right! And the other part,” he began.
“In desperate search I light the path.” Said Tenebris. “I think it means that if you’re desperately looking for something… that can’t be located with magic or maps, it will show you the path to it.” He said.
“Oh my Celestia, Tenebris you’re right!” I squealed.
“In plain sight I guide the points, in desperate search I light the path. We can’t find the princesses or Maera. I reckon that this is going to show us the way to them.” Smiled Whirlwind in satisfaction.
“Hey look, it’s not going properly,” I suddenly noticed that the compass wasn’t showing the way at all. It wasn’t showing the compass points, it was randomly spinning. It flung itself around, the needle shooting around in broken circles under the tiny glass screen.
All of a sudden it stopped. The needle with the picture of the sun, North, was pointing at the North-West direction.
“That must be it.” Grinned Tenebris.
“Let’s go!” cried Whirlwind, taking off. I scuttled forward to get back under his wing, and we raced on through the storm. I held the compass up to my face and watched the dial spin as we absently zigzagged around. Whirlwind took it from me, galloping on. With his wings around our sides, he guided us through the blazing white unknown according to the Starian Compass.
A few minutes later, when my hooves had regained their unwelcome frostbite, Whirlwind skidded to a violent stop. I lurched out but scurried back under his wing. He pulled us tight to him, as it was cold out in the open.
“Look.” He said with a glum expression. I squinted out before me. I couldn’t see much, so I looked at my hooves.
That’s what we were looking at. Just a few steps ahead of us the stow and rock came to an abrupt stopping, dropping down. I tottered toward the edge and saw a large, white, flat stretch of ice.
“Oh.” I sniffed.
“It’s too dangerous to cross, somepony would slip… But the clouds seem higher here.” Muttered Whirlwind, mainly to himself. “I think we may be able to fly along this bit.”
Tenebris made a coughing sound. I croaked out a giggle. “Whirl, he can’t fly.”
“Just use your magic. Let’s go.” Replied Whirlwind. He carefully stepped off the edge and jumped the few metres to the bottom. I followed, then Tenebris. Whirlwind was right. Though I still felt the bitter cold and felt the wind tatter my mane, the clouds and storm damage didn’t reach the ice lake quite so much. I put my hoof on the ice, but quickly drew it back.
“That’s cold!” I hissed. Tenebris rolled his eyes. I glanced at the compass Whirlwind was still holding. The sun needle was pointed directly ahead. Yes, we would have to cross the lake. I sighed.
With a minor rush of bravery I spread my wings. I picked up my hooves and galloped out onto the ice. I rushed along, almost slipping. My wings spread further. I needed a run-up, for I had to fly low.
All of a sudden I heard a crack and saw the ice was about the shatter beneath my hooves. But the ice was too late. I took from the ground and tucked my hooves close to me, soaring over the slippery flat like a bird diving toward the water.
I glanced behind me and saw Whirlwind and Tenebris following. Whirlwind smiled. I shot along faster.
Soon I reached could see the other side through the blizzard. I felt a sigh of relief come on. As I continued to fly, I suddenly noticed a massive hole in the ice, revealing the dark water. What was a hole doing there?
Seconds later I alighted upon the snow-covered ground and stepped up the slope. That was when the wind got me again.
Whirlwind and Tenebris swiftly arrived by me, and Whirl returned to wrapping his wings around us. I snuggled under like it was a big, grey blanket. I looked once again at the compass, and saw the needle was still pointing ahead of us. We trudged off into the snow.
The ground was flat and snowy and endless for a long time, but soon ended. I saw a very abrupt hill, more of a cliff, stretch above us. We walked along the side of it.
The compass’s pin was slowly pointing to the north-west part. We followed.
And it wasn’t long until I noticed something. Around the side of the hill I watched different lights. Orange and blue, flashing violently into the air. I stopped with a gasp. “Whirlwind! Whirlwind! Look, ahead!” I squealed. He stopped in surprise and perked up. Then I saw his eyes light up and sparkle their golden shine.
“Oh my Celestia.” He breathed. “Do you think its them?” I nodded. Tenebris stood there, dumb-struck. He looked slightly pale.
But all too quick, Whirlwind had taken off around the hillside, spraying the snow high into the air with his hooves and pushing our hinds along with his wings. I panted as we continued to run.
All of a sudden, before we could arrive at the spot, the flashing had vanished. “No!” yelled Whirlwind. He stopped so fast at the hill’s edge that I flipped over forwards. Tenebris levitated me back onto my hooves.
I watched in utter silence as the king approached the edge of the steep hill, and I soon noticed a massive boulder wedged into a crack, sparkling slightly form the tiny crystals of snow upon its grey surface.
I eyed Whirlwind’s curious face as he brushed his hoof over the rock. “Hello?” he suddenly yelled. For some reason, I couldn’t help but face-hoof. Why was he yelling at a rock?
All of a sudden the boulder moved. It shifted a tiny bit. I perked up and heard grunting and a scrape.
I gasped with realisation and grabbed the massive rock in my magic, using all my strength to pull it away. I shivered and looked at the hill.
Inside a small chapter stood a grey Pegasus with long, glum hair and white hooves.
“Maera!” I squealed in wild delight. She gasped, the tiniest, but warmest, smile creeping onto her sullen face.
“Flare! Tenebris! Whirlwind!” she cried in a quiet voice.
“Maera I can’t believe we’ve found you!” I continued to squeal, grabbing her in a bone-crushing hug. Tenebris approached and turned it into a bear-hug.
“What was the flashing we saw before?” asked Whirlwind. His happiness was there, but he was curious.
“Oh, come in quickly I’ll tell you.” Pushed Maera, scurrying delicately into the chamber. I followed and we came into a small dirt cave. In the centre of the room was an orange flame, floating over the ground. Wait… only I could perform such a trick…
Whirlwind pulled the boulder over the entrance and we gathered.
“Oh goodness, I have the most amazing news.” Grinned Maera. Abruptly, I was distracted by the white of her legs creeping up a little more. I narrowed my eyes, before listening to what she was saying. Maera drew in a breath. “I’ve been living with the Princesses for the past few hours.” She informed us.
I gasped. My wings flopped to the ground and so did my jaw. The… princesses? I felt myself squeal inside. I looked up at Whirlwind and saw this expression of pure shock, amazement and delight.
“Did you say…?” he gaped. Maera nodded.
“OH MY SWEET CELESTIA YOU FOUND THE PRINCESSES!” hollered the King, rushing to Maera and picking her up in his magic. He spun her around the cave once and I giggled, but gasped suddenly as Whirlwind grabbed Tenebris and I as well and grabbed us in a huge hug.
“Where are they now?” he demanded.
“Just before you arrived they left. They had to go and get water.” Replied the Pegasus breathlessly. “They’ll be back soon.” She smiled again.

Murder Rose

This is written from Murder Rose's point of view. Short, but slightly revealing.
Image
I shuddered and drew my cloak tighter over my body. How could anypony live in such a horrid place? I watched Glory and Swooper shiver as well.
I tried to ignore the cold and focus on our set task. Latinix had finally found the sense to let us out, as she had decided we were of mild use to her. And if we did the job wrong… well, we had seen what she had done to another pony who came a-wandering into her palace. Frozen. Solid. In a jagged, freezing, prison of un-penetrable ice. I shivered a second time.
“OK, this is what we need to do,” said a smooth female voice from behind us. I turned and saw Angel approaching. “Latinix has told us to get into the palace and find out what they’re planning. Any information they have must be brought here via us, ponies who can enter the palace without strange looks.” Said her velvet voice.
“Strange looks?” I suddenly demanded. “We’re some of the most wanted ponies in the Empire!”
“I know, I know.” Hissed Angel. “But we can disguise you.”
“How, exactly?” I spat. Angel glared.
“I know a few spells that can change your coat colour. Then just do up your mane and try to transform your coat into a gown.” Added Glory in him equally smooth, but very calm and deep voice.
“Alright.” I growled cautiously.
“Now, Rose, it will just be you. Swooper, Glory and I will wait here. The maximum time you are allowed is two hours. Any longer and Latinix is coming to get you.” Said Angel, as Glory lit his horn up.
“Keep still,” he ordered. I held my breath and waited.
In seconds I felt the magic touch my body and I gasped. It was icy and silky and weird, as it wove itself into my coat. In a moment I felt a pang and saw a light flash under my eyelids, and it was done. I opened my blue eyes and looked down at myself.
“Oh my goodness!” I gasped, lifting my hoof to my face. It was white! Pure, shining, elegant white. Not even the tips of my hooves were red, my whole body was white.
“And of course, there is no way to change your cutie mark, so you will have to hide it with a dress.” Grinned Glory, slipping my coat of and placing it on the pure ice floor. I held my breath again as he zapped it with a bolt of light. When the flash was gone, lying on the floor was a long, silken, velvety blue gown with a rose on the front. I gaped. I definitely wasn’t for princessy dresses. It wasn’t my taste, at all.
“How could you,” I began to yell at the unicorn.
“Hey, Rose, don’t worry! It’s not a puffy, ribbony dress or anything. It’s sleek and naughty and definitely gains respect wherever you walk. Try it on!” said Dark Glory, levitating the dress up. I scowled at him and slipped the garment onto my body.
Well, he was sort of right. It was very sleek and stylish, and it did match my new coat and my eye colour. I spun around. My scowl slipped into more of a smirk, slightly amused at myself that I would even consider wearing such a monstrosity.
“Hold on,” I said. Using my magic, I suddenly conjured up a small clip with a rose on it, then went about doing my hair. I fastened it up into a bun with my blond locks falling down my face, then clipped the rose into it.
“Perfect, Princess Rose.” Sniggered Swooper. I flashed my eyes in her direction dangerously.
“OK, go. Now.” Commanded Angel in a more serious tone. I nodded and suddenly used my magic to teleport away from the Ice Queen’s palace.
I landed with a bang on the road of Laheb City. The cobblestone was icy and slippery, cleared away. The storms were rough here, but not as bad as some places. I stood quickly, and began to gallop toward the palace.
As I knew already, the entire place had been surrounded by a massive force-field. But wearing my important-looking outfit and smooth, stallion-manipulating talk, I could probably enter without too much trouble.
It was not long before I reached the palace gates, that stretched high into the air. Guards stood on the inside, and I yelled in.
“Excuse me! Hello!” I called.
“Yes, Ma’am?” offered a guard gruffly.
“I must enter the palace, sir, for I have requested an appointment with the Queen.” I said in a slightly snobbish tone. He examined me. I was clean and kept, with my rich-looking dress and royal tone. In a moment he nodded. With his magic he opened the gates and I made my way toward the palace.
I told the guards there what I was doing, and they too let me in. Once I was inside, I made sure nopony was watching. With a wicked grin, I bolted toward the stairs opposite the door.
The hallways were silent and eerie, reflecting simply the sorrow and hardship the royals must be facing. Which in turn, made me grin wickedly. Despite being a pony myself, I was never belonging and accepted by society. Well, most murderers aren’t. So I wanted to bring an end to the ponies here in the Empire, and someday move off to terrorize another country.
I tried to make my mind remember where the meeting hall was. Or maybe the Queen’s room if that didn’t work. If I remembered correctly, it was only a floor above me, the meeting room.
I smiled and found another flight of wide, carpeted marble stairs. I charged up them and suddenly saw the room, door open with golden light spilling onto the floor.
I crept silently and cat-like over to the door and peered in. Sure enough, Aka, Storm Cloud, and Aka’s royal advisors and such were seated around the long, wooden table.
I gasped as a guard approached the door and shut it with his magic. That was more of a relief than a complication, so I pressed my ear up against the door and listened intently.
“So, you still haven’t found a pony that can assist in this?” I heard a muffled voice ask.
“No, no Shining Armour I haven’t.” sighed Aka.
“This one time… And those princesses aren’t available.” Growled another voice.
“Are you completely sure that little alicorn can’t? There’s something about her,” started yet another female voice.
“Yes, Cadence, I’m sure!” groaned Aka. “And I have no way of knowing how Whirlwind’s going with saving the Princesses…”
“Don’t worry, Mother. I bet he’s fine.” Soothed Storm Cloud.
“But, how would Flare know what to do? We don’t even know where she’s from or how she even became friends with Wildfire.” Put in a voice of a recognized royal advisor.
“I don’t know either. But I have known that filly for a long time, and I have definitely seen something in her. Spells that she’s performed… spells not even I could do. And Wildfire, well… Flare recently found a certain thing in Wildfire that I know she’s been trying to get out.” I heard Aka say. I pursed my lips and pressed closer to the door.
“And are you certain this will work?” pushed Shining Armour.
“Yes, yes I am. I regret letting her go off with Whirlwind… I didn’t know how precious she was.” Sighed Aka. “However, when Whirlwind returns I know that they can assist the archery squad in defeating the Hiems, for that is their one weakness. A very weak weakness that once it is used against them, we’ll set the Empire free.”
“Meeting dismissed.” Said Storm.
I gasped. So they needed the Princesses? The Princesses that Latinix said she was holding prisoner?
I put it together. If they were brought home and used, Latinix would be defeated. The one thing that would kill her and her soldiers was those two little alicorn fillies; the thing standing in the way.
I glanced at the door. Nopony was exiting yet. I took off once again down the corridor, desperate to tell the others.

Fire-Fighter

This is written from Princess Fire-Fighter's point of view.

“Quickly, come on girls!” encouraged Sparkle Flame wearily holding up the force-field as well as the massive boulder. “Maera will be lonely.”
“Thanks Sparkle.” I smiled, stepping into the tunnel with Wildfire. Using her magic, she very carefully levitated a swirling sphere of pure water. When Sparkle finally broke the shield and shoved the big rock into place, we walked silently into the chamber.
Sure enough, waiting on the other side was our newfound Pegasus friend, Maera. She wore no smile on her sombre face, but greeted us with a nod.
Then she smirked. I narrowed my eyes. “Maera?” I slurred.
“Princesses. I have a little announcement.” She said, showing a tiny, cheeky grin. I became ever more suspicious. “Please, stand here on the left wall.”
I rolled my eyes and obediently sided to the left dirt wall with Wildfire and Sparkle. “Look opposite.” Instructed Maera. I snarled and looked up.
My jaw dropped. My heart jumped out of my chest and up my throat and I choked. After choking I started to hyperventilate, shocked by the sight of the three ponies hidden in the shadows on the wall opposite us.
Whirlwind. Flare. And a grey colt.
“F-Father?” I gagged. My eyes welled up.
“My beautiful Princesses.” Smiled Whirlwind. Before any of us could do anything, Sparkle had launched herself into the King’s chest, throwing her forehooves around his neck. She began to sob into his chest, and I felt a wave of completely unwelcome emotion.
“Oh Father! Father! Oh my Celestia I can’t believe it!” she wailed, laughing at the same time. Flare then threw herself at Wildfire, pinning her down. The two of them squealed and laughed and cried, and through my coming tears I giggled.
“Fighter.” Smiled Whirlwind, and I approached him. He drew me into a hug as well, and I felt his warm, safe body. I began to sob. I couldn’t believe they’d come! After all this time in hell, in this loneliness of horrid storms and snow, I was simply amazing emotions that waved through my body.
“You came…” I said.
“Yes, sweetheart, I came.” He said into my hair. I smiled. I didn’t know how them coming would get us out, but I knew that all I felt now was security and relief and hope. Whirlwind had found us, after all that had happened.
“I love you Father.” I said as he released me. I’d always been his favourite daughter. Practically his second son. I shook my head.
“Do you know how we’re getting out?” asked Sparkle Flame. I glanced at Flare and Wildfire. They had their heads resting on each other.
“I think I may know. We don’t have your aunt’s help this time, but we’ll manage.” Replied Whirlwind. Wildfire looked puzzled.
“Aunt?” she blinked.
“Wild, do you remember Father mentioning Aunt Syrenix? We’ve never met her.” Said Sparkle. Wildfire shook her head.
“You will soon. She’ll be waiting.” Smiled Whirlwind, giving Wildfire a kiss on the cheek. “But Sparkle, and Fighter if you can handle it, I will definitely need your advanced help, OK?”
“Of course.” I said bravely.
“Then we have to go very soon.” Said Sparkle. “If we linger, Latinix will find out.”
“Latinix? How?” demanded Whirlwind.
“She can… see us. When she wants, she knows how to find us. I bet your intrusion will become known very soon.” Agreed Wildfire. Whirlwind went sort of pale.
“OK, let us organize this fast…” he half-muttered, shutting his eyes to think. We remained silent. “I think we’ll get out the way we got in. Going up will be unimaginably tricky, so each and every one of you will need to help.” He said very seriously. I nodded vigorously.
“Tell us!” pushed Flare.
“OK…” said Whirlwind, pressing his lips together. “OK. We’ll put up a force-field over all of us. However, with me occupied in everything else, Sparkle, you will do it. Over yours, the inside one that keeps us most safe, Fighter you will put up another layer. Over hers, Tenebris. I will use my magic to haul the entire thing up out of the storm, but holding it against the storm it going to be extremely difficult…”
“Whirlwind, is there anything Maera, Wild and I can do?” offered Flare.
“Yes, yes there is. You, Wildfire and Maera will use your wings to help pull us up. Push the top of the shield and fly.” Instructed Whirlwind
“Oh my goodness I’m so nervous!” breathed Wildfire. Maera squeaked in muffled agreement.
“When will we start?” I asked.
“Soon. In a few hours at most. We’ll get some rest to gain our strength, then we’ll go. As soon as possible to avoid Latinix.” Replied my Father.

* * *
I was first to awaken a few hours later. The first thing that caught my eye was Wildfire’s little flame floating over the ground, and next to it, Flare’s purple one. So they could both do it, huh?
Suddenly it hit me. We were going to escape soon! I choked and stood up, nervous and excited. Everypony else was asleep, but they had to wake soon. I didn’t take care to be quiet, instead went to the other side of the hole and found the little pit in the ground. It was full of water, so I bent over and took a drink. Doing this, I felt like a cow drinking from a trough.
I sighed and licked the moisture from my lips, now refreshed. Then I noticed that Sparkle had woken up. “Hey Sparkle.” I smiled. She looked at me in surprise.
“Oh, hey Fighter. Are you nervous?” she asked.
“Oh, definitely.” I huffed. She looked at the floor.
Many minutes passed, and soon it seemed everypony else was awake. Whirlwind wearily stepped to his hooves and gathered us all around him.
“OK, has everypony regained their strength?” he asked. “You need to be as strong as you can get in these conditions, it won’t work otherwise. Your lives depend on your persistence.”
Maera gulped and hid behind Flare. It didn’t work well; she was quite tall.
“Do you know what you’re all doing?”
“Yes.” We all said in synchronization.
“We need to go, now. Be brave, everypony.” He smiled. He then gave Wildfire, who was closest, a kiss on the forehead, and she squeaked in fear.
He then turned around and, using his magic, opened up the boulder at the end of the passage. With no effort, he threw up the force-field and allowed us all to calmly pass him into the snow. I shuddered again, watching everypony gather.
“OK, bunch together. Very close.” Ordered Whirlwind. Obediently, we pressed up against each other, warming up slightly. I huddled between Maera and Flare. Wildfire was snuggled next to her best friend too. “Now, Sparkle. Perform your absolute strongest shield. Make it only as large as the fit us all in, making it bigger than it should will use up your energy.”
Sparkle closed her eyes for a moment and gulped. Then she bravely looked at Whirlwind and nodded, lighting up her horn. I watched very, very carefully and silently as her horn began to seep gently, shining, solid ribbons of gorgeous blue light, as they slowly crept their way beneath out hooves. It burrowed slightly under the snow, before suddenly bursting upwards and entwining their way into the air. In the most perfect of spheres, it shimmered up to meet the other side, before flashing shut. As it snapped tight, I lit up my horn.
I spread my legs and bravely stared up at the force-field around us. I jabbed my horn onto the side of it, then let the energy spread outwards and up onto the side. It pressed up on the blue, transparent layer, making a weird colour of combined orange and blue.
All of a sudden, I cut of my shield magic as the shield, once again, snapped shut over us. I held my horn magic though, as it maintained the force-field.
“Good girls.” Smiled our Father proudly. Then he nodded to the little grey colt next to him, who very timidly lit his own horn with the strange glow of navy and black. I narrowed my eyes, watching the strangely dark and sombre aura seep from his horn. He struggled, but seemed to be managing OK. It ran slowly up the sides, seemingly shading us in darkness. Instead of illuminating the bubble, it shadowed it, making it slightly hard to see. But we were still able to look outside into the snow. All of a sudden it cracked shut and Tenebris gasped. His magic was steadily holding, though.
“Well done Tenebris!” smiled Whirlwind. The colt awkwardly flashed a grin, as Whirlwind turned to us.
“Now, remember; Sparkle, Fighter and Tenebris you MUST hold your shields as strong as possible! If you feel weakened, just keep going. I promise it will be over as fast as possible. Wild, Flare and Maera you have to beat your wings as strong as you can and push on the top of Sparkle’s shield. It will push us up, helping me lift us. Your wings will help us balance as well.
“OK, I’m getting nervy here! Can we start?” I gasped. Whirlwind nodded.
“Ready?” he said. We all nodded. Except Maera. She, along with Flare and Wildfire, flittered to the top and held her position with an expression of fear and brace. “One,” said Whirlwind
“Two,” breathed Sparkle Flame.
“Three…” grinned Flare.
“Lift!” yelled Whirlwind. I spread my legs as suddenly he grabbed the whole shield in a massive bubble of magic, and the shield holding the storm off us shattered into a million pieces. I gasped as the tiny shards of translucent, shining yellow magic flew all around us in the wind, trying to pierce Tenebris’s outer shield. But he held it strong.
I ducked out of the way of Flare’s wing beat as it flapped in my face. I glanced up in annoyance, but found that they were doing a very good job.
Inside the bubble it felt very strange. We could see outside; the whirling, raging, thundering mass of clouds that wouldn’t even allow us to see or hear. But I could watch it now and still hear the others breathing.
Whirlwind was straining as he lifted all of us upwards against the wind, but a lot of pressure was released due to the wings.
I looked directly upwards and saw where we were headed. I gasped. It was even worse up close. It looked similar to a black hole, with spiraling arms of the centre of just one of the many storms making up Death Points. The pressure around us began to build, pushing at the sides of the force-field.
Tenebris yelled out in strain. The wind was shoving at his shield, and he began to sweat. I let out another pulse of orange magic, strengthening mine to help him. He gave me a grateful glance.
“Father, is that going to lift up upwards like a whirlpool?” asked Wildfire, beating her wings as hard as she could.
“No, Wild, it’s going to push us away!” he snarled back. He wasn’t starling at her though. “I’m going to push us more that way, to the edge!”
We veered to the side. I suddenly saw a massive flash of bright, white lightning that illuminated all the clouds around.
“Father! If that hits us, Tenebris will get killed!” I yelled in horror. Tenebris gasped.
“I promise it won’t hit us!” hollered Whirlwind. The storms outside began to get louder, and now I could hear them. I shuddered as another bolt of lightning shot down to the ground around us. My ears was deafened for a moment as the thunder growled and snarled from every angle. Maera squeaked, tears running down her cheeks. “Maera, you must persist!”
“I… am…” she said between sobs.
“You can take a break,” started Wildfire.
“No! Maera, you can do this, I know you can! You’re so much stronger, I know that!” interrupted Flare.
“I’m not strong… I’m not making a difference…” she continued to cry.
“Yes, you are. Keep going.” Soothed Flare, slightly stern. Maera was older than her, between mine and Sparkle’s age.
“Oh my Celestia this wind is strong!” roared Whirlwind suddenly. His horn was flashing brightly, sending sparks flying all around us. I winced, abruptly feeling the pressure too. The wind was pushing on my shield, and my head began to ache. But, against the pain, I sent out yet another magic pulse to strengthen it.
“Tenebris… make your shield stronger...” I gasped to the side of me. I saw him nod and copy, and I saw a flash of darkness as he did it. The shadow over us was even darker now, making it ever more hard to see.
But each time the deadly bolts of electric lightning boomed, it lit up all of us. By now both Maera and Wild were in tears. Whirlwind had managed to veer us off course from the blackhole/whirlpool of a storm and had us headed at the raging, dark grey arms.
In just seconds we’d reach it, and with a big lurch and many gasps, we were caught in the whiplash.
“Hold your balance! Don’t let your magic fail and don’t stop flying!” yelled Whirlwind. I held strong, but definitely knowing that the wind was trying its best to smash the force-field into tiny pieces.
“How far up are we?” I asked Whirlwind.
“About three quarters… I’m pretty sure we’re far from the mountains, we’ll come out a few miles from them.” He growled back to me, throwing his head upwards to pull us higher into the very thin air.
“There’ll be no air at the top!” gasped Flare.
“I know, all the more reason to not let this break…” choked Whirlwind. His next roar was cut short by yet another massive bolt of lightning and thunder that shone all around us.
“I’m going to get hit!” wailed Tenebris.
“No you’re not!” yelled Whirlwind. “Please, just keep your shield up!”
The further into the storm we went, the more thunder and lightning there was. Whirlwind was steadily levitating the shield, but the three girls were failing with their flying. They were shoving the top of the shield with their hooves, beginning to use they heads, as they forced their way upwards.
I winced again, and so did Tenebris and Sparkle, as we reached the place of ultimate pressure. It was as though we’d bumped into a solid wall, the clouds we actually enclosing us in a massive, strong, crushing monster of airless cloud.
“Oh Celestia!” wailed Sparkle Flame, now feeling the weight of Tenebris’s and my shields. “I…can’t…hold it…” she choked.
“Mine’s cracking!” gasped Tenebris, his face wet completely with sweat and tears. I saw another lightning flash, and the entire shield bumped. Maera gagged and dropped to the bottom, but her absent help made a huge difference. I immediately felt like we were getting pushed more.
“Maera! Get UP!” I cried. The terrified little Pegasus was crying her eyes out, trying to stand. Sparkle bent over and nudged her, and she stood on her hooves. With a tiny wing-beat she went to the top and used her head and forelegs to push once again. I breathed a choked sigh of relief, as Whirlwind was able to move again.
As another rumbling flash of lightning and thunder boomed around us, there was a whooshing, sound. The shield was pushed against our father’s magic.
“Fighter, push! Join the others!!” he yelled. I nodded and flew up, the others making room for me. I pressed my hooves to the cool, smooth magic and began to beat my wings hard. My back strained and began to ache very quickly, making me grunt.
“Sparkle, Sparkle, please.” Huffed Whirlwind. “If you can, help me lift…”
“Yes Father.” She replied bravely. Glancing at her horn, my sister suddenly surrounded the whole thing, even over Whirlwind’s magic, in her sparkly blue aura.
“Thank you! Hurry, if we get past this we’ll be out…” muttered Whirlwind, and I noticed his muscles relax slightly. But his poise did not change. He stood, head back and legs spread, lifting the bubble with seven ponies inside.
It seemed we had it under control. Whirlwind’s and Sparkle’s combined magic was easing the struggle, as so was me joining Wildfire, Flare and Maera.
But Tenebris was struggling. His shield was holding off the pressure…
All of a sudden, I was blinded. I was deafened. Without warning, I lost all my senses, as a massive surge of sound and heat and light ripped through me. The booming, flashing light surrounding me mixed with the massive bump on my side and the screaming inside my ear. My throat let out a huge, painful noise, and my bones seemed to catch on fire.
In a split second, I realized we’d been struck by lightning.
My hooves burned up and my magic suddenly failed, and the screaming around me continued. I couldn’t see a thing, but against the heat and the flaming agony I felt a whiplash of freezing cold.
The world spun and swirled, and I didn’t know if I was flying, falling or gone.
“TENEBRIS!!” A voice suddenly screamed.
Tenebris? Oh Celestia… Tenebris…
“HELP!” screamed another voice. I then heard a deep male voice, a thump, and warm against me.
“Father…” I choked. As I went to take another breath, I realized I couldn’t. There was no air. I gasped and I gagged, but nothing came into my body. I felt like I was drowning, and the freezing cold of the storm made it feel so real…
I then heard the choking and gagging around me as well, but still I couldn’t see anything. As I could see was the white lightning that lingered forever in my vision. Abruptly the warm around me was gone, but I couldn’t yell out for it. I couldn’t breathe, and I knew that I was dying.
I fell, aimlessly, torn apart and tattered by the wind. I couldn’t even move my wings, for they had frozen. I tried to see more, but I couldn’t…
For the few seconds that felt like days, I fell, and drifted. The whirling storm about my body was the only thing I could hear, I couldn’t sense the screams or the groans or the gasps of my fellows…
I reached out with all the strength I had, and tried to grasp something that I could hold on the last moments of my life.
Image
And amazingly, they did.
My frozen hooves wrapped around a body just as cold as mine, but felt warm. I held tight, not knowing who it was.
And all of a sudden, I stopped.
My back thumped down, caught by an unknown source. I lay down, limp like a doll, on a smooth, hard cold surface. The ringing in my ears had now began, and still, I couldn’t see.

* * *
“Fighter! Fighter! Fire-Fighter!” yelled a faded female voice. “Fighter, please… are you there?”
“Come on,” groaned another voice. “Is she breathing?”
“Yes… but that’s the only thing that seems to be functioning.” Replied the other voice.
“Why is she the only one like this?”
“Only other than Tenebris. The others are working overtime to get him back…”
“Spar…kle…” I managed to breathe.
“Fighter? Oh my Celestia are you back?” gasped the very familiar voice. Sparkle Flame…
“I’m burning…” I whispered again, but my eyes possessed no ability to open.
“She’s back! Why are you burning?” said the other voice.
“Maera…?” I said. My voice was stronger now.
“Yes, Fighter, it’s us! It’s Sparkle and Maera! Are you awake?” gasped Sparkle.
“Yeah… but I’m burning…”
“She must have touched Tenebris…” whispered Maera.
“Tenebris? Oh my goodness… is he OK?” my eyes were very slowly opening. The grey and pink shape, outlined by blue, were very faded and blurred.
“He’s out really bad. His heart is beating really slowly, it’s giving the others heart attacks.” Replied Sparkle.
“Are they all OK?”
“Yes, don’t worry. You and Tenebris were the only ones affected by the lightning, they’re only suffering from shock. And frost bite, I guess.”
“Where are we? How long have I been out?” I asked. By now, I could see their weary faces, and behind them blinding blue.
“About half an hour. We’re above the storms now. It is a wonderful sight, unbelievably.” Said Sparkle with a exasperated laugh.
“I can’t move, it burns too much.” I just groaned. So Sparkle nodded and the two turned away to let me rest. My head flopped to the side, and I got an angled view of the sight.
We were inside a blue, sparkling shield of Sparkle’s, but the blue was affected by dark navy, filled with beautiful, glittered stars. Stars I hadn’t seen in so long, it was like they were unrecognized, long-lost friends of mine. I smiled a tiny smile. I strained my eyes and looked down, seeing just white and grey, whirling around like a great sea of clouds.
I shuddered and turned my head up again. I wished I’d never see such a horror again.
I glanced at my hooves. They were red and covered in dustings of glittering white snow. The red was probably from the frost bite. My wings were spread out on either side of me, and I could see that they were in the same state. The feathers were ripped and torn and many were missing, and the base of the wings looked the same as my hooves.
Then I noticed my side. It was burned, like a flame had licked the side. The shock must have passed through Tenebris and into me, and hitting my chest must have caused the shock in my heart and brain.
“Come on, why won’t you wake?” I heard Flare suddenly wail. “Please Tenebris! Come back!”
“Is he OK?’ I groaned. But nopony heard me.
“Flare, sssh.” Soothed Whirlwind. “He’s going to be fine. Sparkle is going to try and keep him while we go home, OK?” I breathed in relief. The colt was going to be fine.
And so were we. We were free.

“It’s been far too long... the Empire is dying!” cried Aka, stomping around the room stressing. Right when I’d thought she’d got a hold of herself…
“Mother, you know Father. He would not let anything happen!” I argued, trying to calm her.
“I know, I know. But however much he tries, he might not get them out! He’s got Flare with him. Flare, is just as precious as your sisters, and I NEED her and Wildfire! I am facing a very tough time here, Storm, and I am not coping…” he strained.
“You were! You told me about your vision. Fire Light gave you such good guidance and you took hold of that guidance for quite some time! Mother, trust me.” I said
“Do you know him that well?” she snapped.
“Yes, yes I do! I have seen him in army training and combat so many times, and I know his fighting side. When was the last time you saw that, hm?” I demanded, raising my voice.
“Don’t yell at me Storm,” she started.
“I can! I am reasoning, Aka! I can reason; I am a grown stallion. I can make decisions and I know right from wrong.” I hissed. She glared at me, before giving in.
“OK. Why are we even arguing about this anyway?” she sighed. “We should just… wait.” I sighed too and nodded. I sat down and pressed the side of my face onto the table. As I stared out the window at the raging grey and white, I heard the door slam as my mother left.
I sighed a second time. I think it was from relief she had left, or building stress that she did. Every time she put off a meeting made everything worse, she was the Queen. I needed to contact the other royals, but… if I was a grown stallion and could make decisions, was doing what I was doing better than her at all? I needed Whirlwind. He was so wise and strong and better at leading wars… and right now we knew that with him was our only source of power. And we didn’t even know if he and Flare were OK or not, let alone my sisters.
I bit my lip. My sisters… Flare…
All of a sudden I heard the door open again. It creaked slowly and gently blue light seeped over me in a line.
“Storm Cloud?” offered a small, soft female voice. I gasped and lifted my head so fast my neck cracked.
“Ow… crud…” I groaned, rubbing it. “Hey Gamila.” I grinned awkwardly. She giggled musically.
“Hello!” she smiled. I blushed. Geez, why did I always do that? I tried to shake it away, but it stuck. So I tried to ignore it. “Have you got any news yet?” she asked hopefully. I sighed.
“No. Father’s still not back… and even while we wait for his return we can’t do anything for this war. All those trained soldiers… Just for nothing.” I muttered.
“Hey, don’t worry,” she tried to comfort me, kissing my cheek very gently. Over my blush, I groaned with guilt.
“I have to worry! Celestia’s still in hospital, Luna’s mourning over it, the zebras don’t have any magical abilities, neither do your soldiers, the crystal ponies are no different to normal ponies in regards to war, and the Equestrian and Jewel Empire’s soldiers are just injured upon contact with the Hiems!” I huffed in frustration.
“What about the Changelings? Can’t they shape-shift?” offered Gamila.
“Yes, but if they shaped into a Hiem they’d just be a Hiem. Hiems aren’t stupid enough to just give information away at a question, and what good would 200 more of them be?” I moaned. I looked up at her face. She made a slight grimace, with a hint of helplessness. “Sorry.”
“No, I just feel as pathetic as you.” She breathed, seating herself down beside me. “I wish I could do something… I'm terrible at magic, I can’t even match an eleven year old. Besides; going into any sort of battle would be a big no-no with Father, he’d just send me back to Saddle Arabia.” She frowned.

* * *
All of the royals sat around the long table under the different flags. We ate in silence and the only sound was the storms and the nervous chewing all of us.
I hurried to eat my tea and threw down my cutlery. Only Gamila noticed me, but she had already lost her appetite. She pushed her plate away with her hooves and slumped back.
I glanced at Aka before getting down. Gamila just followed and we silently left the room. We walked down the hall side-by-side wordlessly, and nopony bumped into us. I glanced to the left and she gave me a tiny smile, and we soon turned to a few large doors.
I opened them with my magic and we stepped out onto the balcony before us. The air around us, sealed inside the great force-field, was very still and windless. Way down below, I saw soft, orange, twinkling lights in beneath a tree in the gardens where I suspected there was a party going on.
Party. Pff. I sniffed and turned away, hearing the storms outside. I flinched and Gamila brushed my hoof with hers.
“Cheer up,” She tried to say, though we both knew it wasn’t helping. For a moment it was very quiet. “Hey, why don’t we see what’s going on down there?” she gestured to the garden, and I gazed down.
“But, that’s intruding,” I started.
“No, it’s not! You’re royalty, you can do whatever you want.” She sniggered back. As I looked closer, I realized that the glow was not coming from the lights in the tree, but the dancing, glowing flames upon one of the ponies’ head. It must be that small fiery alicorn from Equestria, I thought.
“Alright.” I grimaced. She squealed. “Um, I’m flying, how will you get down? You can’t teleport.”
“Um… I could… ride?” she offered. That time, I furiously blushed. My cheeks burned.
“OK.” Was all I could say. I got down slightly and she climbed on, tightly wrapping her thin, purple hooves around my neck. I stood straight and spread my wings.
“Hold on!” I said bravely. She squeaked and hugged tighter. I backed up to the door, and suddenly galloped forward. With a leapt and beat of my wings, I leapt from the end of the balcony and jumped soundlessly into the soft, cool air.
I swooped into the dark, cloud-covered night and watched the beautiful white of the Palace towers pass us. I felt the air move through my mane and a smile crept across my face. Gamila’s grip around my neck loosened slightly and I lifted my head up to the movement-made breeze.
We were silenced as I flew in a straight line, and the mood was peaceful for once. I could hear the storms but they sounded so… distant. Gamila let her hooves hang loose over my shoulders and she rested her chin in my mane. I smiled, my cheeks still burning.
“Gamila, would you like me to go down to the gardens now?” I asked after a moment.
“No, just wait a little…” she sighed.
I lifted myself higher into the air and gently turned to the right. The torrents of the Palace were all around, towering above our air-blown heads. The light from the rooms beamed down upon their surroundings. Lingering in the air was the unrest of the ponies inside, but I couldn’t help feeling explicit calm at that moment.
Gamila and I… flying.
I carried on over the palace, watching the lights of the trees in the gardens and the guards patrolling the walls. The force-field flashed and sparkled way up overhead and beyond was the whirling storm.
I looked back over my shoulder. Gamila had her cheek buried in my mane as she gazed dreamily around. I watched her placid expression and sighed.
I turned back and spun around a tower, before soaring like an owl toward the gardens. Gamila lifted her head and watched as we whooshed ever so quietly down, before suddenly I landed with a gentle thump on the grass.
I waited for a moment, and she sighed. She climbed carefully off and stood next to me, leaning on my side. I hesitated a short moment, then kissed her forehead and began to walk. The gardens were so empty and passive, and the moment of peacefulness and quiet wouldn’t leave. I sighed with happiness, listening to our hooves move through the silky, darkened grass.
“Gam?” I offered.
“Mm?” she mumbled.
“Do you still want to go to that party?”
“No.” she sighed. “Can we stay here by ourselves?” she asked innocently.
I coughed, my face flushing yet again. “Yes, of course.” I replied. She smiled, her expression still very calm and undisturbed. I bent my legs and lay myself down beneath the tree, and Gamila joined me. She still leaned on me, tired. We couldn’t stare up at the stars or gaze at the moon, and we couldn’t have a picnic alone in a forest, but the palace gardens beneath a force-field and the deadliest storms on Earth seemed rather OK for some… time together.
A few moments passed and I found my chin was resting on her head. She had her face buried into my chest and we breathed steadily, not really asleep but seemingly unconscious. Suddenly she moved herself away and spoke.
“Storm?” she asked.
“Yeah?”
“Do you… um… like me?” she said, blushing. The pink spread all over her lavender face and her eyes darted down to the ground. My face turned an even brighter shade against the blue and I stuttered. Was she really asking me that? Really?
“Gamila… I… of course I like you! You’re the best friend I’ve ever had.” I replied, my heart rate speeding up.
“Really? Your best friend? I’ve never had a friend before… that makes me feel really great, best friend.” She grinned, nudging me. I let out a huff of breath and she pressed herself against my chest again. I felt my heart flutter delicately, spreading my wing and placing it over her body. I drew her in closer and she snuggled up.
I moved my head and pressed my mouth up against her ear. She didn’t respond to my action. “I love you Gam.” I whispered into her ear, so quiet it was almost inaudible.

* * *
My eyes opened very, very slowly to the soft light that still surrounded us in the gardens. How long had we been sleeping out here? It was still night, so obviously not long. I must have fallen asleep at around eight, but I didn’t exactly know how much time had passed.
I was now lying, stretched out, on the grass. Gamila was next to me, my big, blue wing over her like a protective blanket.
I shuffled up and stretched my legs out in front of me with a yawn. She did not stir.
All of a sudden, the corners of my eyes caught a flash of light. I gasped, turning my head like a whiplash. Once again, my neck cracked.
I groaned.
I examined the grass around me and scanned the area. The flash seemed to be gone, so I looked for anything unusual.
Then I saw some sparks. Little yellow sparks floating down toward the ground, where, lying limply like a fallen feather, a scroll of paper sat. I grinned. A letter! From who, though? I pursed my lips and levitated it over with my green magic. When it reached me, the glow seemed to awaken Gamila.
“Hm? What?” she murmured, shuffling a bit. Her eyes opened slightly and she looked up at me. “Storm? Oh my goodness… why are we…? Oh I remember.” She muttered aimlessly, sitting up a bit and yawning.
“Look, Gam! I got a letter. I was just about to open it.” I told her. She perked up and looked at where my magic aura floated.
“Wow! Yes, unroll it.” She encouraged. I unrolled the paper and put it in front of us.
“Dear Storm Cloud,
“I am so relieved to finally write to you. It took a while for it to send with all the magic happenings across a long distance, but if you’re reading this you have received it. I send this to you because, knowing Aka, she is probably not in the… right state. I can feel it, and I know you’re responsible.
“I have written to break some amazing news. We’ve rescued you’re sisters! They’re all safe! There are a few injuries and the like, but they’re OK. We’re currently getting accommodation in Skyrithia, where your aunt lives. When we return, Syrenix is going to come with us to help. When will you need us? Is it urgent we return?
“Kind regards and sincerely, Whirlwind.” I finished. I was utterly speechless. I didn’t even continue to stare at the letter, but dropped it on the grass. I noticed that Gamila was partially hyperventilating.
“Oh my goodness!” she gasped all of a sudden. “That’s Whirlwind! He actually saved the Princesses!” she squealed.
“Father’s coming back! Oh wow… we have to tell Aka! Quickly!” I cried. I leapt to my hooves and Gamila did too, and after picking up the letter we charged at a million miles an hour to the palace doors. The guards let us in and we made our way up flights and flights of stairs. “She’ll be in her room, it’s really late.”
“OK!” she grinned. I couldn’t wait to break the news… my sisters were OK! Whirlwind was coming back!
Flare and Wildfire were coming back.
We burst through some doors into the big, carpeted hall where the royal bedrooms were. Aka’s and Whirlwind’s was up at the end, and without knocking I threw myself into the room.
“Mother! Mother! Aka! Wake up!” I yelled. I flicked the lights on and heard a horrified gasp from the bed.
“Storm? Storm, what are you… get OUT!” she yelled, trying to put anger over her utter surprise. She sat up, throwing the silken blankets off and shunning the light from her eyes. “What are you two doing?” she demanded, now actually angry.
“Sorry Mother, but we have urgent news!” I said, running up to her and shoving the letter into her face. She pushed it away and got up from her bed, glaring at the two of us.
“It’s midnight. What are you both doing up together? In here?” she growled dangerously the way mothers do.
“Don’t speak to me like that!” I snarled back crankily. “I’m an adult, Mother.” Gamila just pursed her lips and watched us. “Anyway, I have this and I need you to read it.” I began to hand it over.
“Thank you,” started Aka.
“Wait! Hold on,” I suddenly interrupted. I snatched the paper scroll back and come to the part of her not being in the right state and the surrounding words. I used my magic to quickly erase it, making a big blank space on the paper. I shrugged and hope she wouldn’t notice, before handing it back to her.
She narrowed her eyes and took the scroll in her magic. She cleared her throat pointlessly and turned away from us, before beginning to read.
Once again, Gamila’s hoof brushed over mine and I smiled with an unwelcome blush.
Within moments, Aka had dropped the letter all of a sudden. I perked up and watched anxiously, as her ears flopped.
I held my breath and she turned around. In the corners of her eyes were tears.
“Aka,” I started cautiously.
“There’re coming back! Whirlwind’s coming back! He’s got Flare! And Wildfire! The war can begin!” she yelled, the tears streaming from the pure happiness, as she ran about the room like a filly. I grinned broadly, watching her suddenly happy. She gleefully bounded around yelling and celebrating with random words that I didn’t pick up.
All of a sudden she stopped dead in her tracks, before running to her dressing table. Thrown upon the desk, (I imagined in frustrated defeat earlier), was the Jewel. She grabbed it in her magic, wrapped the velvet ribbon around her ears, and pressed the swirling, glowing gem to her forehead.
I’d seen her attach the Jewel of the Empire before. Just like any necklace or crown or headdress.
But this time, the moment it touched her blue coat, it flashed. The dim room suddenly lit up brightly, shining and sparkling. The aura and energy emitted so quickly from the Jewel blew me away, and Aka threw her head back.
After a few more seconds, it died down and I blinked to rid my eyes of the blinding light. Aka stood there, and the only expression on her face was confidence. Pure confidence and bravery beamed out from her entire body an almost visible glow, and I gaped.
“Mother?” I stuttered. “What just… happened?”
“My counter-destiny, Storm.” She grinned, her eyes lighting up. We both cocked our heads.
“Counter-destiny?” wondered Gamila.
“Yes. See, my destiny was basically fulfilled long ago. Wind, what my cutie mark represents.” She started to explain. “But you see, every wearer of this Jewel, every birth-crowned ruler of this Empire, has a magical connection to it. It’s not fulfilled all at once. Power is gradually sourced from it by the right feelings of love and power over the land. But, the last time something like this happened was at my coronation. Nearly 200 years ago.” She put emphasis on the last sentence.
“Wow… Mother, why didn’t you tell me this?” I asked.
“I didn’t think it was ever going to return to me. I thought I was just going to fail. And I realize that this is what my mother was talking about in my vision about regaining its power.” She replied. “Do you know what this means, Storm?”
“Erm,” I began.
“I can help take down the enemy! This was be mainly the job for Flare and Wildfire with the archers, but I can defeat,”
“Latinix.” I gasped. Using the Jewel, Aka was going to be able to take down Latinix with its power. I gaped, then glanced at Gamila and she weighed the words around her.
“This is fascinating! I didn’t know magic had so many… possibilities.” She wowed, grinning up at the two of us.
“Yes, Gamila!” smiled Aka, breathing in through her nose. “That’s how Wildfire was so powerful when she wore it as well…”
“When are the others getting back?” I demanded, emotions flooding through me. I was so excited.
“I don’t know. But I do know that Whirlwind will not hold back until he arrives. No toilet stops.” Aka laughed. “So a day I’d imagine.”
“Let’s reply!” I urged.
“OK. We’ll let them know why they’re needed, and they’ll be here soon.” Smiled my mother, kissing both of us on the forehead.

Murder Rose

Postby Kodabomb » Tue Jul 02, 2013 11:05 pm

This is written from Murder Rose's point of view. Don't worry! Your faves aren't going to die...
Image
I stared blankly at the bars of spiky, jagged icicles before our faces, stopping us from escaping our cell. I didn’t quite know why we needed a cell, we weren’t going anywhere. But it wasn’t going to get any better anywhere else, so we just found our own things to do.
Swooper and Glory were behind me, having a very absent-minded conversation. I was at first listening but gave up.
Swooper had changed a little since meeting Glory. Seeing how attached and devoted he was to Angel made her vividly remember Star Blade, a stallion close to her heart. I spat at the ground at the thought ‘close to her heart’. Love was non-existent in my world, and Swooper should know better. She seemed so depressed that he was no longer there. I honestly didn’t know why she cared.
All of a sudden the conversation behind me was broken as clopping hooves sounded down the bright white hall. I glanced up and watched Angel arrive at the cell bars. She was panting a little from running, and had a desperate, urgent look on her face.
“Angel,” started Glory.
“Hold on,” puffed the Pegasus. “Geez… I wish I had teleportation.” Glory and I smirked.
“Do you have a message?” I asked.
“Yes, I do.” Replied Angel.
“Have you told the Queen?” asked Swooper.
“No, I haven’t. I’m worried she’ll, well, freak. It’s not my fault, but she’ll take her anger out on somepony.” She grimaced. We gathered at the bars and continued to speak to her through them.
“Well, tell us!” pushed Glory. Angel winced.
“Remember your message Rose? The one you didn’t end up telling the Queen?” she raised her eyebrows at me. “Well, I found out that… the Princesses have escaped.”
“What?!” gasped Glory. “How did this happen?” he demanded.
“I don’t know! I put on the disguise and went to the palace, and Queen Aka is organizing their arrival home!” she said back in a defending tone. “It’s means that the ones we need to stop are coming back, and we need to stop them before they get to the palace.”
“This does mean we need to tell Latinix…” groaned Swooper.
“I know.” I said gravely.
“We have to tell her. We want our freedom back, so we must.” Sighed Glory. “We’ll take some guards with her, maybe she’ll take out her anger on them.”
We all nodded. “Excuse me!” Angel called over her shoulder. “Can you let the others out please? We need to go to the Queen.”
A Hiem down the hall screeched and was over by our cell within a blink of an eye. They moved so fast… its creepy yellow eyes looked at all of us wordlessly. It screeched again and blew the cage bars out with a flash of light.
I ducked out of the way of a flying piece of ice, then stepped into the hall. The Hiem guard was gone. Angel then led us down the chilly hall and out to find the throne room.
Soon we arrived. Latinix sat there upon her tall, spiky throne, glaring at the wall opposite. She was so still that the only thing that moved was her ever-moving hair that waved down just off the floor.
As we stepped into the centre suddenly her glowing eyes looked down at us. They stared, eerily into our eyes.
Before we could say a word she was right in front of us, making me jump. It was like she was there the whole time, looking down upon us like scum upon her flawless white floor.
“Your highness, I bring news.” Said Angel, trying to cover up her fear.
“Yes?” hissed Latinix. Angel hesitated, and Glory gave her an encouraging nod. She pursed her lips and looked back up at the Hiem queen.
“We um… the other day well… Rose did have some news and I have to add to it…” she stuttered.
“Speak!” screeched Latinix, before her hoof flashed up and suddenly came into contact with Angel face. I gasped as Angel screamed in pain, the frost bite flashing deeply in a scar across her cheek. Latinix’s eyes were wide and terrifying. I felt the urge to run and never return, to get away from her. But I stood still, knowing just what would happen to me if I did.
“Your highness,” choked Angel, tears all over her injured face.
“Angel, I will take over.” Said Glory with deep concern in his eyes. “You see, your majesty, the other day Murder Rose travelled to the castle like you asked. She discovered what your weakness is, and we now know that the ponies are planning to use that weakness against you.”
Latinix’s eyes widened, but her face remained composed.
“Queen Aka has discovered that one of the Princesses’ friends, a pony called Flare, has a powerful fire ability that is unique to others. Apparently, Flare knows that another pony, Wildfire, can do that as well, but only just and it has only recently come to her attention. You know that Wildfire is one of the Princesses you locked away, and Flare went with the King to um… rescue them.” Said Glory. Latinix clenched her perfect white jaw, anger rising up inside her. Glory hurried to finish. “This means that if there was any way that those two Alicorns returned and found out how to use their power against you, it could be your downfall. And there is that catch; well…” he drew in a deep breath and tensed his muscles, ready to jump away. “King Whirlwind has rescued the Princesses and they have escaped.”
All of a sudden, Latinix was in the air. “NO!” she screeched, piercing my ears. “NO! THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING!” she screamed. She roared and screamed, and I screamed too, as lightning flashed everywhere. Ice pillars were smashed, and all Hiem guards around the room were frozen in ice in her race.
“HIDE!” hollered Glory, and, still screaming, we ran to hide behind a massive pillar. But Latinix was ignoring us.
“I need to stop those ponies! I need to get them here and KILL them!” she continued to yell. “KILL THEM!” She flew up and jabbed her curved horn into shining crystal of ice on the ceiling. There was a blinding flash and massive thunder booms all around, and I knew Latinix was enhancing the storms with her anger. “I am going to kill them myself… they will experience so much pain…” she hissed.
“Oh damn…” whispered Glory.
“FIND THOSE PONIES AND BRING THEM STRAIGHT TO ME! ALL OF THEM!” she screamed, hurting my ears again. I heard eerie screeches as the remained Hiem soldiers flew from the room at light speed, to re-capture them. “I will have no prisoners. Not a single filthy, disgusting pony shall remain alive after this. Not a single one.” Hissed Latinix.
“Oh no…” choked Swooper.
“Sssh…” whispered Glory.
“But we’re ponies…” she sobbed.
“Swooper…” snarled Angel.
Before I could think again, there was a flash of light and a massive, deafening, smashing noise. I gasped and realized the pillar before us was gone. Latinix was glaring at us with rage on her face.
“Your highness, please,” Glory began to beg. “We have you the information,”
“You WAITED! You didn’t give it to me immediately! I could have prevented this!” she screamed. “You disgust me! Why should I spare your pathetic lives?”
“We gave you that information! Now you can stop it,” started Angel.
“NO!! You will die the same death at the others! I don’t care if you’re on my side. You’re no longer of use to me.” She said dangerously. Terror ripped through my body.
All of a sudden there was a jet of light and I felt my body slam against something. I screamed in pain as we were all thrown against a wall. I felt something wrap around my neck and before I could move I realized that my throat was being held to the ice wall by a thick, solid bar of ice. I couldn’t move, at all.
Then it was my ankles. They were attached to the wall as well, and I was held there, above the ground, and all I could do was await a slow death with the other ponies Latinix planned to kill.

Sparkle Flame

Postby Kodabomb » Mon Jul 08, 2013 9:22 pm

This is written from Princess Sparkle Flame's point of view.

“Come on everypony! We’re almost there!” cried Whirlwind, and his joy and excitement and anticipation seemed to burst out from him at all angles.
“We’re trying! We want to get back just as much as you.” I replied, shaking my head with a grin. I beat my wings continuously, feeling the exhaustion coming on. But we needed to get home. Aka would be waiting…
The beautiful horizon stretched out all around us, and I could see the hills and town and forests and fields… a tall mountain range lay ahead, and I knew that just over it was the Empire. We’d taken the long way round, who the flip knows why, and we’d have to cross Staria to arrive.
I dreaded the storms I’d see when we did get there. I didn’t want to face Death Points again, it would be too much. I imagined the Empire in a precise copy of it, and I thought that knowing it was home would just scar me a lot… I hoped all the others were OK.
We soared over the world in a formation like geese. Whirlwind at the point, then it went biggest to smallest at the back. Of course, Maera fluttered delicately along at the very back. Syrenix was up the front, opposite to me, and I could see just how excited she was. She wanted to see Aka again and meet her only nephew, to see how her brother’s kingdom had turned out. It was fantastic meeting her too.
I lifted my head to the wind and drew in the fresh, warm air that I hadn’t experienced in so long. It was amazing to see the real world again, and know just how much it meant. The beauty astounded me, and hit me so hard with the thought of how I longed for it.

* * *
We were nearing the mountain range, feeling the wind that pushed us up against the huge hills. I felt nervous and excited to get home and see Aka and Storm again, and feel safe in the walls of the palace I loved so much…
I glanced behind me and saw that Wildfire and Flare had broken off from our formation, squealing and flipping around together through the air. I grinned.
We were about to reach the mountains and soon cross the border to the Empire. How bad was the damage? Was it worse than I remembered? Would I just be dumb-struck and shocked by the sight…
In a few minutes I could feel the pressure release from behind me. The wind was no longer blowing on our backs and pushing us, but a breeze from in front was.
I felt like I’d hit a wall. I was suddenly struck by icy, chilling, frozen wind that hit me in the face like frosty snap. I gasped along with the others, and I watched as Whirlwind and Syrenix’s face colour faded to a light shade of blue-grey.
I fluttered up slightly alongside Fighter and we tried to peer over the last stretch of mountainous forest. I dashed forward more, desperate to see…
And suddenly we were soaring over the slope over the mountains.
Headed towards an exact copy of Death Points.
Gasps of horror erupted around me, as we stared out at the blazing white of the wasteland. The rolling, never-ending hills and forest and paradise of the Jewel Empire was coated thickly in snow. So much snow, I couldn’t even recognize it as home. Not just a dusting of snow from an overnight blizzard, but the arctic, or worse; Death Points, made in record time.
“Father… that’s not the Empire.” Said Wildfire in a disbelieving voice.
“I never thought I’d see the entire Empire… but see it like this…” muttered Tenebris.
“Look at those storms…” Flare said. “It is just Death Points all over again.”
“I am going to kill Latinix. I am going to DESTROY her…” snarled Father, now fuming. “She doesn’t deserve a second chance for the things she’s done.” He was on the brink of breaking out into a huge rage, but Syrenix patted his shoulder and looked into his eyes with a comforting, but stern expression.
“Let’s go Whirl. Aka will be waiting.” She said quietly. Whirlwind nodded.
“Come on everypony. I have an enchantment that allows entry through the palace force-field.” He said, his voice still slightly shaking with anger. I reached out with my pink hoof and touched my father’s shoulder, and so did everypony else. I held my breath and suddenly felt the tingling, hot-cold sensation of the flames, before my lungs collapsed and we were sucked toward the palace.
In seconds I felt my body release and we were thrown onto the recognizable hard floor of the palace.
Before I could stand and take in my surroundings, a door not far away banged open and I heard thundering hooves from two directions.
“Father! Father! You’re back!” cried a male voice. I gasped and stood. Before me was a light blue alicorn colt, beaming as he looked at all of us.
“Storm!” I cried in delight, throwing my hooves around his neck. “Oh Storm Cloud I missed you so much!” I pressed my lips together, feeling the tear arise as my older brother hugged me back.
“Sparkle! Are you OK? I was so worried…” his voice cracked. “I couldn’t believe you were alive when we got the letter!”
“Me neither. I don’t know how we managed.” I sighed and we broke apart to face each other. He smiled, then turned as he was bombed with greetings by Fighter and Whirlwind.
Next to Storm was Lady Gamila. She didn’t notice me, but I looked around and saw Aka.
She didn’t see me coming. Like I did for Storm, I galloped towards her and threw my hooves around her. By now, I was crying.
“Mother!” I squealed.
“Sparkle Flame! Oh my beautiful filly…” she gasped. She hugged me tight. I sniffled into her chest and grinned. “This is amazing you’re alive! I can’t believe it!”
“I know! I missed you so, so much Mother.” I smiled and we broke apart.

* * *
It had been one hour. We had reunited happily, and it was amazing. Seeing my family and friends again was the best feeling ever. Aka even called all the other royals to see us.
I was shocked to find out that Celestia was in hospital. We hadn’t visited yet, but Luna came to greet us and looked awful.
We sat in the meeting room. Aka had mentioned that the mood had lifted slightly, from hope. I didn’t quite understand. We didn’t play a role in defeating the Hiems, so I couldn’t get why the others were so ecstatic.
“Calm down everypony!” called Aka suddenly. The muttering was silenced. “Now, as you all are aware, the King has returned. With us, he had brought back our daughters! The Princesses. And you all know the important part they shall play.
“We must act fast. This task will need to be performed very quickly; as of now the clock is ticking. We do have hope, and we do have some means of our enemy’s defeat. Lady Flare.” Aka addressed Flare.
“‘Lady’ Flare?” said the alicorn with a raised eyebrow. Aka smiled.
“I know that you have a unique talent, my dear filly. And I know you know what that is.” She said, staring intently into her eyes.
“Um… yes… but why?” Flare stuttered.
“Because we have discovered that the Hiems’ weakness is,” started Storm.
“Flames?” gasped the violet alicorn, suddenly shocked. “Really? You want me to help?” she cried. Aka nodded wisely. Flare began to grin, her bravery relevant.
“Do you know another alicorn who can also do the job?” asked Aka, pushing her along.
Flare snapped her lips shut and looked down at the table. What was she suddenly thinking? We all watched her. “I’m not sure.” She whispered, her expression showing that she was confusing herself.
“I’ll give you a little bit of time to think about it, OK? But not too much time, Flare. We need your help today.” Said Aka, then she turned to the others. “Sorry about the short meeting my friends! At least we know what’s happening. Dismissed for now.” Chairs scraped the floor as all the royals from around the room got up and left through the door, while Aka, Whirlwind, Storm, Wildfire, Fighter, Flare, Gamila and I stayed behind.
“Flare, who would you like to talk to?” asked Aka in a tone of already knowing the answer, quietly to Flare. A few seconds passed as she thought.
“Wildfire please your highness.” She replied just as quiet. Aka nodded and I watched as she called my sister over. Flare smiled to Wild and the two fillies left the room to talk quietly to each other. When they were gone, I approached Aka.
“Mother, what was that about?” I asked.
“Oh Sparkle, it’s a long story. But I know they can help, OK?” she said.
“OK. I just don’t get why it’s them; they’re both so young.” I wondered, watching after the place that they left.
“As I said; trust me my dear.” Replied Aka, kissing my forehead. “For now I think that you should use this bit of time to return to your room and get cleaned up; Sweet Star and Sun Chaser are so excited that you’ve returned.” She smiled. I gasped.
“Sweet and Chaser?” I cried. Before she could answer I’d taken off out the door.
I galloped through the palace, not taking in my new surroundings as I rushed towards my room in the Empire’s royals’ chambers. I beamed as I found the hall and charged down to find the great door decorated with flaming diamonds.
I threw the door open and burst inside, immediately sighting the unicorn and Pegasus sitting on my bed.
“Sweet Star! Sun Chaser!” I squealed in delight, running over to my beloved maids. Suddenly they saw me, and sat in shock as I ran up to them.
“Princess?” cried Chaser. She flew up into the hair and came down with huge whoosh, wrapping her pale brown hooves around my neck. Sweet stood on her hind legs and did the same.
“Oh girls! I’m so happy to see you again!” I choked.
“Sparkle we were so worried!” insisted Sweet.
“But we were so excited when the Queen told us you were coming back!” agreed Chaser.
“Oh wow, you look awful! I think you need a tidy up.” Beamed Sweet Star.
“Yes, thank you so much.” I said, exasperated.

* **
In just half an hour, Sweet and Chaser had managed to remove all my frost bite with ointments and magic, clean my coat, wash and brush my mane, and suit me up once again in my tiara, shoes and necklace.
“I feel like a Princess again!” I smiled, looking at myself in the mirror.
“You always look like a Princess, Princess!” giggled Chaser, alighting next to me to look into the mirror as well.
“Oh never mind me! I’ll just tidy up myself…” said Sweet, and we could practically hear her eye-roll.
“Sorry! I’m coming…” grimaced Chaser, making me laugh.
“OK girls, I need to go down to the throne room now. I’ll see you tonight!” I said, skipping to my door. As they said their goodbyes, I left down the hall to find the others.
I arrived soon enough, to a magnificent sight. In the throne room, the carpet had been cleared away. Instead, lining the huge hall, were heaps and heaps of soldiers. Each one bore a mark representing archery, and they all silently stood straight holding their quivers and bows. I gasped at that as I silently slunk around the edge of the wall and stepped onto the platform with my family and Flare. I also noticed that standing by Storm was Gamila, who seemed to be following my brother around a lot.
“What’s going on?” I whispered to Fighter.
“I’m not really sure yet. Flare and Wild seem pretty excited though.” She murmured back. I raised my eyebrows and looked out.
“OK girls, you know what you need to do.” I overheard Whirlwind say to Flare and Wildfire. Flare grinned and jumped from the marble platform, followed by my little sister and they stood before the army of archers with bravery.
Suddenly they both used their magic to levitate hundreds and hundreds of arrows from the soldiers. They poured out, floating through the air like rain, as they began to align themselves in a big, solid, floating wall. They held there, feathers facing the ceiling and points facing the fillies.
I watched Flare whisper something to Wildfire and she nodded. I didn’t know what either of them were thinking, but Flare was clearly guiding Wild. They both then lifted their heads and arched their necks, as their horns pointed at the arrows.
They stepped away from each other and suddenly both horns lit up. Bright orange and pink-purple light lit up the area around them, and before Wildfire could do anything, Flare’s horn burst into flame. A huge, dancing, flashing burst of fire spread up, licking the ceiling. I gasped and jumped back. I shielded my eyes and face from the strange heat, watching as Flare was on purple fire.
“Go Wild!” yelled Flare, clearly enjoying being set alight. Wildfire was gaping, but she snapped back and tried as well.
Her horn suddenly erupted in far more realistic fire, yellow and orange and hot. My sister shrieked, shocked that she was performing such a trick. Flare was waiting for Wild to get going before she started as well. Neither of them seemed to be in pain.
In a moment, both flames died down slightly, so that the fire was less harsh. Flare directed her horn at the arrows, and began lighting the ends. Each one was lit with a small candle of purple fire, and she nodded to Wildfire.
Wild did it as well. She was along the row and lit each arrow point. But none of the arrows were crumbling. They remained on fire that didn’t harm them at all. In a moment the two were finished, and the rows met. They broke off their fire and held it on their horn, standing there facing each other. Suddenly Flare blinked, and her flame was extinguished. Wild did the same, and they turned to us.
“Oh my STARS that was amazing!” cried Fighter enthusiastically, thumping her hooves upon the floor. Storm joined in.
“Thanks!” smiled Flare, cheeks red from exhaustion.
“Whoa, that was amazing! I didn’t know I could do that!” squealed Wildfire.
“Oh, you can much more than that.” Replied Flare. Wildfire cocked her head, then ignored the comment as the two hugged.
“Alright!” yelled Storm. “Arrow! Onyx! Lead your army outside. All of you, collect your arrows up, the flames cannot harm you. Only the enemy. I’ll meet you outside!”
Arrow and Onyx Charmer, the leaders of the troop, began ordering around their army. With yells and thumps and cheers, all the soldiers in the room cleared out through the opposite door. Storm turned away and we all gathered in a circle.
“OK, we’re going into battle now. This has finally got to the most serious point.” Said Whirlwind. “I,”
Suddenly the doors banged open and I turned to see who had arrived. I smiled to see Tenebris and Maera come through.
“Oh, there you are!” said Tenebris, relieved. “Can we…?”
“Of course!” said Whirlwind happily, allowing the two to join us on the throne platform.
“Alright. Storm, Fighter and I, we will go out and organize all the soldiers. Soon I will go and get the others to join us, and we’ll try to station the archers in all the right spots. Aka, Wildfire, Flare, Sparkle, Gamila, Tenebris and Maera you must wait here and mind it. Aka, you’ll need to help put extra protection over the palace and,”
All of a sudden he was silenced. He waited a second, his eyes drifting toward the ceiling. “Father…?” I quietly offered.
“Aka…” whispered Whirlwind, his yellow pupils dilating.
“Whirl,”
“Aka, I’m sensing something! Something’s coming!” he said, horrified.
“Whirlwind, of course there is! There are Hiems everywhere.” She said, shaking her head with a nervous smile.
“No, no, no this is really bad… I’m scared. OK, this is not something I’m going to take lightly.” His eyes were now very wide, like a horror film, staring into his wife’s green ones. “Everypony! Get away! All of you, get away from here, NOW!” he yelled. I was getting confused and scared. What was he going on about.
“Come on everypony,” said Storm, a shaky edge to his voice.
All of a sudden then was a massive bang. It shook the room, making Gamila, Wildfire and Maera scream. There was another.
“AAAGH!” screeched Aka suddenly. “OW! NO!” she yelled. Storm was pushing us away.
“Mother?” I yelled.
“Aka!” choked Whirlwind.
“NO! NO!” my mother continued to yell.
“Aka! What’s wrong? Speak!” cried Whirlwind desperately. The banging continued. We filed off the platform and gathered in a huddled group on the floor.
“NO! NO GET OUT! AAARGH!” she collapsed to the floor, holding her forehead.
“Aka what is wrong? Speak!”
“Latinix… she’s got the force-field! She’s zapping AAARGH!” her screams of agony tore through the hall.
“Mother!” wailed Wildfire, while we all watched in terror.
“She’s got it NO!” her sentences kept getting cut off by screams and bangs and crashes. “Everypony… the force-field is going to break… get out of here NOW Latinix is coming!!”
“Aka please…” begged Whirlwind, now in tears.
“It has to break!”
“Break it mother! Break it, it’s going to kill you!” yelled Storm. “This is what happened to Celestia!” Aka nodded, still writhing on the ground. Suddenly her horn made huge flash, and before I could get anything into my head, I heard a crash outside.
I began to imagine the winds. The copy of Death Points, tearing toward the palace
“The soldiers!” screamed Aka, still in pain on the floor.
All of a sudden there was another flash of light and a crash. I leapt in front of the group I was in, along with Storm, and we shielded the others from what was coming…
Wind and snow billowed in, but the figures standing at the door were even more terrifying.
Standing in the doorway of the throne room, were 10 white creatures with horrific yellow eyes.
And out of the snow in the background, stepping elegantly onto the marble, was -
“Latinix.” Gasped Whirlwind.

Horror ripped through my heart as I saw the creatures standing in the destroyed remains of the throne room doorway. They were so much more terrifying that I depicted them from the illustrations. Big, flared wings and swirling mane, with their slicing yellow eyes and icy cold that radiated from every angle of their bodies.
And behind them stood Latinix, taller than even Whirlwind. The white and grey blaring up behind her, created a silhouette of blue around her thin figure. Thunder and lightning flashing around us as the Hiem Queen threw her electric magic toward the sky.
“I knew I’d find you here. I figured you’d be back, and it would be easier for my Hiems to capture you with my help.” She hissed in a ear-piercing pitch. I cowered behind Storm and Sparkle who had thrown themselves in front of us to protect us. “Now, who should I pick to take with me? Just the ones I need to kill? Or all of you?” she said, mocking an innocent, wondering voice.
“Get out! Don’t you DARE touch them Latinix!” roared Whirlwind, leaping in front of Aka and pointing his horn at the enemy.
“Hello Whirlwind. Good job on rescuing the Princesses.” Grinned Latinix. Whirlwind snarled fiercely.
“Father…” whispered Sparkle Flame.
“I think, to make it easier than choosing, I’ll bring ALL of you to my palace and dispose of you in the correct order.” Suddenly the monster’s eyes flashed brightly and she flared her wings, before all of a sudden more thunder and lightning crashed through the room.
With another blinding flash and swirl of snow, ten more Hiems came bursting into the room, screeching wildly. I blocked my ears and yelled out, terrified.
The twenty Hiems had formed in the room, outnumbering us by ten. Latinix cackled behind them. “Seize them all.” She spat at her minions, and all of a sudden they came at us.
“NO!” screamed Aka, not for herself but for us. Sparkle and Storm screamed but didn’t stand down, their protection of us failing. The Hiems plummeted toward us. I yelled again and threw myself toward Maera and Flare, grabbing them both. I tried to shove them away and get them behind me, emotion bursting up inside me.
“GET AWAY!” I yelled as two terrifying creatures flew down at me. But the rage was suddenly replaced with fear, as the thing grabbed me. I screamed out and heard the girls scream too, and I felt the pain. Sudden frost bite claimed the area it touched me, not gradual like in the blizzard. It was agonizing, and I continued to yell.
Before I could try and fight it off, another landed too and grabbed me. As if my body wasn’t frail enough, now I was covered in freezing burns. All of a sudden there was a puff of cold magic, and I was drawn into a teleportation portal.
Within seconds I was thrown onto an ice floor, and I could no longer feel the Hiems on me. But I leapt up all the same, staring around. The Hiems were walking away, leaving me in the centre of a huge room made entirely of ice. I looked wildly around more, wondering where I was.
I abruptly noticed on the opposite wall were four ponies. They were all unconscious, strung on the wall with solid cuffs of ice around their necks and ankles. I was about to approach them when there was another bang.
I turned and noticed who was there. “Flare!” I choked out, running to her. She was sobbing desperately, her hooves blue and white from the burns.
“No… no, no, no…” was all she was able to say as she cried into the floor.
“Flare! Flare I’m here! Tenebris!” I gasped, collapsed beside her to lift her chin up with my hoof.
“Tenebris we’re going to die!” she gagged, shoving her face into my chest. “Latinix will kill Wildfire and I, then she’ll kill everypony else! We’re going to die!” she wailed.
“No Flare, no, we’re not going to die!” I sniffed, beginning to cry too. For a few moments my words lingered in the air, before another voice spoke.
“Oh, you are going to die. We’re all going to die.” Growled the voice. I turned around and saw that it was one of the ponies on the wall. She was grey and red with blond mane and a green cape. She was almost dead, and her company were all unconscious, heads dangling from their cuffs.
“No! We’re not!” I yelled back. “Who are you?”
“No Tenebris, don’t speak to her…” whispered Flare. I turned back to her. “She’s bad, very bad, she’s probably sided with Latinix already.”
“Why? She’s a pony.” I said, puzzled.
“She’s Murder Rose. She’s the most wanted pony in the Empire.” She replied. “Don’t talk to us, you disgusting, traitorous vermin!” Flare screamed at Murder Rose. She just sniggered.
Suddenly another bang flew up near us and I looked around to see Lady Gamila and Prince Storm Cloud. Gamila was crying with fear, her hooves wrapped around Storm’s neck.
“Storm? Storm! Where are the others?” gasped Flare behind her.
“Oh Celestia… I can’t believe this is happening…” muttered the Prince. “They’re coming soon. I don’t know why they’re bringing us all here.”
“They’re going to kill us!” Flare continued to cry, tears streaming from her eyes. She was shaking with despair and fear. “We’re going to die!”
“We could escape…” I started.
All of a sudden, my ears were briefly deafened by the bangs of all the other arriving in clouds of icy magic. In just seconds the room was filled with all the ponies from the throne room. Aka, Whirlwind, Sparkle Flame, Wildfire, Fire-Fighter, Storm, Gamila, Maera, Flare, Gamila and I. We dragged ourselves toward each other.
“Ha! I have you ALL!” screamed a terrifying voice from above us. Latinix swooped down before us all in a flash, so fast it was like a blur. She grinned, showing her fangs and flashing her eyes. With her wild determination, her eye aura expanded and flew up in massive ribbons of light.
“No, Latinix... please don’t kill them… they’re just foals!” begged Aka desperately.
“Foals? I don’t care, you filthy pony!” spat Latinix. “Now, I could just kill you all now, instantly, but it would be more fun to slowly dispose of you.” She pursed her lips, staring intently down at us.
“NO!” roared Whirlwind. “DON’T DO THIS!” he was on his hooves in a second, standing before Latinix with his wings flared and horn alight, fiercely looking into her slit eyes.
Latinix acted first. Her horn lit up with magic and suddenly Flare was surrounded in it.
“FLARE!” I yelled, horrified. I watched as she was lifted into the air, screaming and struggling, along with Wildfire. While she lifted them, Latinix threw a shield across Whirlwind’s face.
There was then a crack in the floor a little way away, as an ice pillar was raised from the ground. It flew upwards, cragged and cold. Then Flare and Wildfire were thrown against the pillar, their backs hitting it hard. I yelled for them, but I was so useless. Their front hooves were stretched and bound by ice cuffs.
“NO! NO LATINIX!” screamed Whirlwind, as the two fillies yelled in terror. Latinix ignored all the noise, before throwing magic at them that made tiny icicles grow on both their horns, temporarily ruining them. They hung their by their hooves, sobbing.
“Well, my dear King, it seems you will have to watch them die soon, as you were first to confront me.” Smiled Latinix evilly.
“You can’t do this!” wailed Storm.
“Be quiet!” screeched Latinix. A bolt of lightning magic was suddenly hurled at Gamila, and she was thrown across the room. Her head hit a wall and she collapsed, completely unconscious.
“Gamila! NO!” yelled Storm. “How dare you?” He turned to try and go to her, but suddenly his hooves were attached to the floor with ice. “No! She’s going to die! She’ll freeze!” gasped Storm, struggling.
“Serves you both right. Who’s next to confront me?” said Latinix. Nopony said anything. I lay on the floor, perfectly still. I didn’t know what to do. She was too powerful. One slip and someone I loved could get hurt.
I choked. Maera. If I did anything, my fragile older sister could have something happen to her… my eyes darted toward her. She was shaking with dread, looking up at Latinix with horrified blue eyes.
“Ok then! I will start getting rid of you now. So, who will be first?” Latinix smiled. I held my breath. “Ah, this one. Too weak to fight.” Her hooves glided over the floor, and I shuddered as the temperature dropped around me even more. She went past me, soundlessly.
When she was turned away from me, I glanced over my shoulder.
I gagged. No. No. Not her…
Maera was trembling on the floor, staring at the Hiem Queen that towered over her. She was so fearful, her tears were stilled and all she could do was choke at Latinix.
“Goodbye, little filly,” said Latinix. As her horn lit up, Maera screamed.
But her scream was drowned by my roar. I leapt to my hooves and threw myself at Latinix, hurtling at her. She was so shocked to see we coming, that I hit her. I was blown back, and so was she, sliding across the floor.
My rage was intense. I huffed like a bull, snorting at her. I knew that my eye aura was now exposed. But I didn’t care.
“DON’T TOUCH HER!” I yelled. Latinix glared at me in shock. But she didn’t speak first.
“Tenebris?” gasped Whirlwind.
“I know!” I snarled. “My eyes! My stupid eyes!”
“No, not just your eyes! Look down!”
I gasped and held a hoof up to my face. Oh my goodness. That had not happened before. My strangely pointed hoof hairs were not just hairs any more. They were flowing out from my hooves at all directions in shadows. Swirling, black shadows, that sparkled with darkness around the floor below me.
“Oh who cares?” screeched Latinix. “There’ll soon be no more unusual talents for you to discover!” I wasn’t prepared. She threw a bolt of lightning at me. I tried to put up a shield, but it was too late. I was hit in the side of the chest, the electricity rushing through me. I yelled in agony. I was tossed across the room.
I felt myself twitching and writhing in pain. The shock from the magic was awful, as it ran through my veins and muscles and bones.
But, why wasn’t I dead? I tried to see something. My eyes were blurred.
I let my head hang loose, not able to hear much. Maybe it was because Latinix was so surprised by my outburst… by my sudden power, that she has been caught off-guard. I was grinning inside just at the sudden idea, but it didn’t last long.
My ears cleared.
“That was very wrong indeed. Now you’ll all die.” Hissed Latinix.

Aka

“No. Don’t kill them.” Snarled Whirlwind, stepped toward Latinix. “Kill me. Get it over with. Aka can keep the others safe.”
“Others? Safe? Absolutely not!” glared Latinix. I gasped at both of their words. How were we going to get through this? We had to! We had to keep the Empire safe. But if Latinix killed Whirlwind and I, then there’d be no king or queen to do so. And if she killed the others, then there’d be nopony to save the empire in turn if we did die.
I looked around. Whirlwind and I stood a few metres apart, Whirlwind facing up Latinix. Both probably had the ability to kill either one, but both were also smart enough to wait for the right time. Latinix was horrid and evil, but very smart it seemed.
Flare and Wildfire were still exhaustedly crying, cuffed to the great ice pillar with limp bodies. Gamila was unconscious on the opposite wall, and Storm was stuck to the floor desperately trying to get to her. Maera was in total shock, lying on the ground trembling. Tenebris was lying on the ground too, his strange hooves glistening darkly with the weird shadow-magic he’d discovered. He watched us. Fighter and Sparkle were standing dead-still, not sure what spell to use or to use one at all.
“Don’t do anything.” I mouthed to them. Sparkle nodded slowly, eyeing Latinix.
“None shall survive!” screeched the Hiem Queen very suddenly, breaking the silence. She flew up into the air with her massive wings, screeching with all her lungs. I winced over my yelp of fright, leaping away.
A lightning-bright blast of magic was shot down not far away from me. I screamed in horror as Fighter and Sparkle were both hit, and they were thrown in either direction. They thumped onto the walls just like Gamila did, so useless as they slumped to the ground. They were so far knocked out, a chill ran through me to wonder if they had survived it…
“Sparkle! Fighter!” roared Storm, his anger flaring out of him. “You MONSTER!” he cried over his shoulder at Latinix, who was aiming a shot at Maera.
“NO!” roared Tenebris. He was on his hooves in a flash, and it was amazing to see such a fragile colt act like this. Latinix fired the magic. Tenebris roared again, throwing himself forward. The black magic of his hooves streaked behind him, and suddenly the magic hit him instead.
No. How was he going to survive a second blast? It hit him in the upper thigh, more his hip, and even from the distance between us I heard the bone snap. He hollered in agony, as he toppled to the floor.
“MAERA! Get out!” he managed to yell through it. Latinix was in such surprise that Tenebris could perform the feat a second time, that she didn’t notice Maera had taken to her hooves and fled from the room.
“What’s WRONG with you?” screeched Latinix at Tenebris, angrily. But she was astounded. Yes, she was surprised by his power. Her eyes suddenly stared at the wall for a moment. What was she thinking?
“ALICORNS!” she screamed abruptly. Oh no… I knew in her attack against me and the powerful Jewel, Whirlwind would attempt Tenebris’s feat.
As Latinix’s magic shot down toward Whirlwind, he counter-attacked. He threw up his blinding yellow magic and it hit the electric blue-white. The blasts were connected, searing back and forward between them.
“Whirlwind! Please!” I screamed. I didn’t know who I was begging…
“Aka! Aka, help them!” he yelled back.
“NO!” I gasped back. I couldn’t. There were too many to help. What was I going to do? Why was I so helpless again?
“AKA PLEASE!” he screamed. I yelled out for him. But suddenly it was too late.
The lightning hit Whirlwind. His magic was snapped off with a bright flash and Latinix’s claimed him. Like electrocution, he was tossed across the room.
“One down! Finally!” cried the Hiem.
I ran to him, dodging a triumphant blast. I stood over him, breathing very quickly.
“Whirl… please, please, please…” I began to sob.
“He’s dead you fool!” sneered Latinix. I gasped and looked back down. He wasn’t… please, he wasn’t…
I peered down at him. His chest wasn’t moving.
But suddenly an eye opened. It looked around and found me. I drew in a sharp breath.
He winked.
I pursed my lips, almost fainting with relief. He was OK! And his chest wasn’t moving; he was breathing more with his throat. I turned away, running back to face Latinix.
As I stared into her vicious, hungry eyes, I heard something. It was loud, heavy, and far away. Like fireworks across the city. I couldn’t hear much, but it was definitely audible.
“The battle.” I whispered, still looking at her. “It has begun.” Her eyes widened.
“You started?” she hissed in an almost inaudible voice. I nodded. “Your flame Alicorns started it?” I smiled. She was clearly too taken-aback to strike me at the moment. The heavy banging continued, and I suddenly heard an enormous roar. The dragons had been brought in! Oh, thank everything for Dragon Stone…
“YOU STARTED!” screamed Latinix all of a sudden, taking swiftly to the air. I gasped and flew up too, as a jet of lightning was thrown toward ice pillar where and Flare and Wildfire hung. Horror passed through me for a millisecond, then I lit up my horn. I threw green magic at the pillar and erected a short, deflecting shield. The shield couldn’t absorb the lightning, so I was safe. It bounced off and flew back at Latinix, making a huge bang as it hit the wall behind her. “STOP INTERFERING! I should have killed you!” she continued to scream, blasting the magic at me instead.
As the lightning went for me over and over, I put up short shields. The bounce-back magic could not possibly hit Latinix with her agile speed, but she was absolutely infuriated. She was so angry that her mind seemed to be only focused on me, ignoring the others strewn across the ice floor down below.
“I should kill YOU!” I screamed, as she stopped for a brief moment. This time I strew magic up at the same time as her, and our beams hit and we tossed left and right. Ice cracked as the walls were smashed slightly by the magic, and Latinix and I faced each other, suspended in the air.
Another crack and a bang sounded from outside, causing Latinix’s eyes to flash dangerously. She was not happy that we’d managed to ready the archers and send out the trainers before she could capture us.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, I threw the biggest magic jet I could toward her. She was surprised as it hit her, which threw her a few metres away from me to a wall.
“Everypony! Get out now! I can’t handle this!” I yelled below me. I shot some magic at Storm’s hooves and he, Tenebris and Whirlwind ran to help everypony else.
“Guards!” screeched Latinix, and I gasped to see from a door not far from Latinix, twenty Hiem guard came flying out. I wanted to fly down and help the others out, but I needed to face Latinix even more...
As Latinix recovered, I lit up my horn and close my eyes.
Whirlwind, when the others are out meet me back here. I can only keep Latinix at bay for a moment, and I will need you. I said into Whirlwind’s mind. I looked at him, and for the split second we looked at each other he nodded.
There was a scream from before me and Latinix was in front of me again in a flash. Her light-speed was not a skill to take lightly, as she whizzed around to shot at me again.
There were cracks and bangs and yells from below, thundering books from around, and magic being hurled at me. It was so overwhelming.
The best I could do at the moment was deflect every bolt she shot at me. It was safer and less energy-consuming than to shoot back, as I waited for Whirlwind to return. Luckily, Latinix did not know that.
“Die, you stupid alicorn, DIE!” Latinix hollered, so angry that her eye-aura was swirling behind her as long as her hair. Her eyes were reduced to tiny slits in fury, making her seem more terrifying and dangerous than ever. But she wasn’t dangerous. She was just angry and ruthless at the moment.
“You’ve been in this Empire too long, Latinix!” I roared back. “You’re a terrible queen! You don’t even treat your subjects with proper justice!”
“Of course not! They’re Hiems! Slaves! They know nothing else but what I’ve given them!”
“That doesn’t matter. For the good of this Empire, you and all your ‘slaves’ will be wiped from existence.” I hissed, deflecting more magic as she screeched again.
“You know nothing! NOTHING about us!”
“I do! Because a single Hiem, a young one, came to us and told us everything. She was too young to be fully affected.”
“WHAT?” she screeched. I grinned wickedly. The downfall of the Hiems was just a single Hiem, and now she knew that. “You didn’t tell me this!”
Her words we thrown at the four ponies cuffed on the wall below. I instantly recognised all four. The most wanted ponies in the Empire. The last remaining in the assassins’ under-cover organisation.
“You recognise them?” Latinix sneered at me.
“Yes.”
“Well then, there’s your first to murder. They were working with me.” She spat. “If you want to kill something so bad, then kill them.”
“No, Latinix. No matter how horrible their crimes are against the Empire, I would never execute a pony. You’re the bad one here.” I said in an almost silent voice. Her eyes widened. Again; unexpected. Her eyes were then unfocused, thinking.
“Fine then. You can try to kill me. You do know it will never work, right? You were very foolish to do this on your own.” She said, flying a bit away from me, blowing icy wind over my body with each wing-beat.
“I know nothing of the sort, Latinix.” I murmured. It was for her to hear, though. She smirked.
“Guards! Leave , now!” she called, not taking her eyes off me. I heard the remaining Hiems leave the room with hisses and swift jets of wind.
Latinix moved further away from me, almost to the other side of the room while I was on the wall opposite.
And then suddenly, as though our minds worked at the same rate, we both threw a jet of the strongest, thickest, brightest blast of magic. It was thrown from my horn, out my head toward my enemy, and I felt her jet of magic hit mine. There was a bang that I could feel inside, and I was thrown backwards, still holding my magic. I beat my wings as hard as I could to stop me from behind pushed by the weight of both beams, and I watched Latinix do the same.
I showed no fear, the feeling of rage colliding with devotion, sparking all kind of magic within me. I suddenly realised it was strengthening me, I could literally feel it!
No time in my near 200 year existence had I felt so much power, so much will... it was taking over my past helplessness, filling my heart with magic.
And all this was only in a second. I looked at Latinix again, who was, for the first time, showing terror in her eyes. She knew what I was doing, seeing my green jet tear closer and closer toward her against her blinding white one.
I then felt a second pang, on my forehead right between my eyes. I couldn’t see it, but I knew the Jewel was feeling my emotions now too.
My counter-destiny. It was all so fast. That little, but so significant part of me was flaring up. I was a birth-crowner ruler, and no matter how many years of uselessness that came, I was always going to be the one to power the Jewel.
With a second pang from it, my horn let out another blast, seconding the one coming at Latinix. She screamed, continuing to push. I was two-thirds along, very close to her now. But her magic was also strong, and she wasn’t going to give up. I wasn’t going any further.
“Aka!” I heard a voice yell. Whirlwind!
“Whirlwind! Whirlwind I feel it!” I yelled back, thrilled. Latinix was fuming again, angry that Whirlwind was back.
“The Jewel...” I heard him mutter. “The others are safe! Aka come down here!”
“NO! He’s not supposed to interfere!” screamed Latinix.
Whirlwind ignored her. “I couldn’t get Flare and Wild out!” he yelled. I gasped. Had I not realised they were still here? I glanced down to the right. Yes, they were there. But despite them being cuffed on the pillar, they were safe for the moment. Latinix’s focus was directly purely toward me, and she would stop at nothing until she killed me and Whirlwind.
But that wasn’t going to happen.
Whirlwind flew up beside me, not daring to do anything to Latinix in case something happened. We hovered side-by-side, and I felt the Jewel power even more.
“Aka, can I source power from it too?” he asked.
“I’m not sure. I think so...” I replied. There were more bangs and a tremendous roar outside and I gasped. “What’s happening?” I strained again, pushing more magic whilst not taking my eyes off my target.
“The storms are slowing. The Hiems are dropping like flies, and every time its weakened the dragons can fly in the clouds with more ease.” He replied, talking fast.
All of a sudden I felt a sharp pain in my head. Latinix had swiftly taken advantage of my momentary distraction, and I had shot a burst of magic at me. Now we were even. But I felt the Jewel getting more hot. It was getting powered every time I send out magic pulses, for somehow it knew what I was thinking. It knew I wanted the Empire back.
“Whirlwind, I think we can do this.” I whispered. He nodded. With a quick movement, his big grey hoof was touching my forehead, enclosing the gem. He gasped as he felt the temperature, and though it wasn’t entirely visible, sparks fizzled down his body. As my soul partner, he could absorb a portion of the Jewel’s power too.
“No! No stupid alicorn, he’s not supposed to interfere!” screamed Latinix again in a rage. I snarled, the devotion coming back. I felt tiny beads of sweat drip down my forehead.
“OK Aka. On three.” Whispered my husband. Latinix was still screaming in anger. I nodded, my teeth still bared.
“One... Two...” he muttered into my ear.
“THREE!” I yelled. All of a sudden I threw my chest back and my horn was directed at Latinix. Whirlwind’s was too, and a surging, empowering, thrusting blast of agonising glory was thrown from my forehead, and my head and my skin was so hot it seared into me.
My eyes were filled with blinding light from the Jewel, and it lit up the entire room. I shut my eyes as the magic fuelled my horn, the combination of green and blue-white and sparks and lightning was loud and ringing. Over it, the banging and roaring and thundering of flames and screeching Hiems deafened my ears.
But on top of it all, it was Latinix’s blood-curdling, bone-freezing scream that drew the attention.
It went for a few seconds, then stopped. There was a thump that I could feel in my chest from the almost sonic boom-like reaction of the magic, and I was thrown back with my magic cut off.
I yelped in a short burst of pain as I hit the wall, and Whirlwind and I slid down. In half a second I realised that my head was throbbing painfully, from the magic and from the burning of the white-hot Jewel.
I lay there panting for a few seconds, to let my head clear. Then after a minute, Whirlwind shuffled next to me.
“Aka? Are you OK?” he asked in a concerned voice. I lifted my head and tried to focus my blurry eyes.
“Yes... I’m fine! Just a little bit... fuzzy.” I replied. He chuckled warmly, kissing my cheek.
“Where’s Latinix?” he asked. I looked around. I couldn’t see her. But I did notice something else. I saw that the ice pillar in the corner was split in two, and on either side of it, amongst shattered ice, was Flare and Wildfire.
“Whirl! It’s Flare and Wild!” I gasped suddenly, jumping shakily to my hooves. I ran over to them. Both lay limp and still like dolls, their wings tattered and front hooves red and cut slightly.
“Wild? Wildfire! Wild get up!” I begged, shoving her. She flopped back down. I pressed my hoof to her neck.
I sighed in relief. There was a pulse. It was weak, but there. Whirlwind did the same to Flare and smiled gratefully. “What should we do with them?” I asked.
“I’m not sure. Just leave them for a couple of minutes; they’ll come around. Still, where’s Latinix?”
We walked slowly across the room, looking around. Still, around the ice castle, I could hear the war raging on. How long would it take to rid the Empire of the storms?
“Aka! Look!” cried the king all of a sudden. I looked to where his hoof was pointed.
On the wall where Latinix had been battling, scattered across the floor, was her armour. All lying there, as if she had never existed, icy waves of cold coming out of it in a mist around our ankles.
“That... is creepy.” Said Whirlwind in an exasperated tone. I nodded.
“Do you think she’s completely gone? Did we actually defeat her?” I asked, not directly, in wonder.
“Wow.” Mumbled Whirlwind, kissing me again.

Dragon Stone

Postby Kodabomb » Sat Jul 27, 2013 5:11 pm

This is written from Dragon Stone's point of view. A nice, short, filler to show what's going on. ;)

With another burst of adrenaline, the pain in my leg seemed to just disappear. I didn’t even need my legs now. I needed to fly.
I lifted my wings and took to the air with a leap, my small, slim figure tearing through the icy sky. I whooped with confidence, whizzing toward the clouds.
Suddenly, out of the misty, flashing, screaming storms came a huge dragon, coloured deep orange and yellow and flames erupting occasionally from his great black wings. He roared tremendously, doing a turn and going back into the storms. It was overwhelming; the size of the storms and the dragons was amazing and stunningly scary.
I loved it.
I flew at top speed into the cloud, the snow and ice whipping aimlessly at my back and wings. I soared with ease alongside the fire-dragon, knowing the wing movements with so many of my imprinted instincts that I didn’t even need to think about it.
The dragon roared again, before his mouth opened and he blew out the most immense, over-powering ball of fire that I tumbled away. This was followed by ear-piercing screeches from around as the Hiems within the clouds were instantly disintegrated. Their white, shimmering, snow-flaky ash fell from the clouds with final flashes of lightning and the storms were weakened. I pushed against the wind.
A lightning bolt shot down near me into the great wide stretch of land that was the Empire. I yelled again with energizing delight, zooming down from the clouds. I nearly hit the snow but darted up, shooting along over the surface. I soared over it so fast that I could barely see, then I suddenly found the clearing in the snow where some archers were gathered.
Their arrows, fired up with a mix of purple and orange flames, were getting tossed into the sky with the bows with perfect precision that every shot managed to hit a Hiem.
I peered up into the sky to watch, and mesmerizing little sparks of light were thrown into the air like bullets or fireworks.
It was practically music to my ears to hear the agonized screeches of our enemy as their freezing bodies were torn to pieces by the fire in a split second. To them, it was not just a burn, it was like jumping straight into a volcano full of daggers. The cloud flashed brightly with flames and lightning.
I ran backwards and went for a run up to take off again. But suddenly I heard a voice.
“Dragon Stone!” it cried. I stopped to turn around, wings still up.
“Yeah?” I said back. I couldn’t see across the snow clearing because of the weather, but an earth pony stallion galloped out of the small crowd.
“Stone! We’ve decided on a full-on approach for a moment. There’s a heavy storm cloud headed our way, packed with Hiems.” Said Arrow breathlessly, gesturing to the white and black sky. “We’re going to align a few of your dragons, dotted with archers to fire at the storm to wipe them out in one go, OK?”
“Um, OK, sure!” I replied, frowning. He nodded to me and trotted off to order the others around.
Align the dragons. Right.
I took off into the sky, ignoring the wind that was quick to claim me and shove me around in the snow. I snarled with persistence and pushed further into the storm to round up my dragons. I was thrown back from the heat and force of the blasts within the storms, flames and lightning erupting everywhere.
I took a deep breath and opened my lips. Suddenly, I let out a huge, strangled, piercing noise. It was a unique noise I developed myself specifically for calling dragons.
Instantly, a huge, black, yellow-striped dragon came tearing out of the clouds, his massive tail almost striking me. I darted out of the way, grinning. With each wing-beat, tiny flashes of electric lightning were emitting. If he beat them in a specific way, he could create real lightning bolts.
“Call some others! Get them down to the ground! Now!” I yelled at him, shoving my hoof in all directions. He closed his bright yellow eyes and nodded his great head, before turning away from me and zooming off. He was unbelievably fast.
I soared down toward the ground, landing in the blowing snow without interruption. I stood in the blizzard, not seeing even a few steps ahead of me. I didn’t know if anypony was near or not, because all I could hear was the battle.
I heard the shattering roars and screeches of the dragons above, communicating with each other. If I squinted and peered upwards, I saw their dark shapes again the clouds, outlined by bright flames.
“Dragon Stone! Over here!” the same familiar deep voice called. I gasped and turned around, trying to spot Arrow.
I saw his light tan figure, waving vigorously to me. I galloped over to him and he shot a nervous grin.
“The dragons are coming to the ground in a moment. Lightning is rounding them up for me.” I informed him.
“Oh, is that the one with the awesome lightning? Geez, I wondered where that was coming from.” He muttered, looking into the sky. I could see them twirling and shifting to get to the ground.
“Yeah. There’s a young one with lightning breath, but it was pretty sucky that she was too fragile to join.” I said, as Lightning began soaring down to earth. With a great, rumbling thud, he landed on the ground. This was followed by many more, and I knew they were nearby.
With their amazing eye-sight and noses that recognized my smell, they soon found themselves in front of us. Arrow pursed his lips and nervously watched them, cautious to act quickly in front of the deadly, magnificent beasts.
“OK, Arrow!” I smiled. “Where do you want them?” I asked.
“Erm… uh…” he gulped, trying to speak to me but not breaking his gaze toward my allies. “Just get them to line up across that way,” he said, pressing his mane to his head against the wind as he nodded to the side.
“OK!” I said cheerfully.
“I’ll go and get the other archers. Thanks Stone!” he cried, galloping away into the whiteness. I looked up at Lightning.
“Alright, get your scaly butts lined up! Don’t tread on any ponies!” I ordered in a gruff tone, and all the dragons were swift to obey. They lumbered away from me, grumbling deep in their throats. I flittered out of the way as all their tails lashed in my direction, and I flew into the sky over their heads.
Suddenly from not far away, I heard a great, rumbling, roar of thunder. I whipped my head around as it got larger. The mini-cyclone was on its way. I knew it was powerful. I could almost hear the thousands of icy wing-beats, the thrash of their lightning, and the screeches from their voiceless throats…
I swooped back down again and dropped to the ground, before I began running along through the snow. I galloped for quite a while, squinting to spot Arrow and the other archers. Onyx Charmer was away with another squad on the other side of the Empire.
All of a sudden, I felt a huge thump on my chest and head. I gasped, stopping my fall by flapping my wings. I shook my head and glared at the ground.
“Blarg.” Moaned an archer lying on the ground. He got up, rubbing his head.
“Watch where you’re going!” I snarled, continuing to run through the blizzard. I passed a few more archers, so I knew the dragons were only a little way to my side. They were correctly facing the storm.
“Arrow! Arrow!” I called.
“Stone? Again?” he grumbled, coming into view as he shooed two more archers away. “What do you want?”
“Nothing really.” I said blankly. “But the storm’s pretty close.”
“I know. Everypony’s getting ready. Do the dragons know what they’re doing?” he asked.
“Well duh! They’re smarter than you think.”
“Alright. I guess we’ll get started. When you see the arrows fire, that’s when you tell your dragons to, OK?”
“On it.” I grinned. He nodded and went off back to find his other soldiers and began firing at the storm.

* * *
My hooves were wrapped tightly around a great orange dragon’s neck. He told me his name was Samudra, and he was fighting to see his friend Dawn’s day again. So he was lined up with others, reading for a group blow at the small, powerful, approaching storm.
Suddenly, from a small distance away, there was a big yell. It was Arrow’s voice, and suddenly from all around I saw tiny beads of light fly. Flaming arrows tore through the clouds toward the storm and I watched in awe. Every bow was firing nearly an arrow per second.
“Alright dragons!!” I yelled at the top of my lungs. “Everyone, on my count! One! Two! Three!” I yelled. I clung ever tighter as all of a suddenly Sam threw his head back. I felt the air rush through his through beneath me, when suddenly he lurched forward. My belly became hot as a great rush of fire came spurting up and burst out of Sam’s mouth. Like a jet of bright magic, the flames were thrown from his throat. I shielded my eyes from the light and heat as I saw all the dragons on either side of us were doing the same. Then I was momentarily shocked by a thump of thunder not far away, as Lightning let off his electric breath.
“Oh yeah!” I screamed, as Samudra started blowing fire again. I then heard the screeches and thunder from above and around , as the Hiems occupying the storms were hit by the fire and mercilessly destroyed. The fire from the dragons and the fire from the arrows made us absolutely unstoppable.
It was going to take a while, but we would clear the entire Empire of the storms. I wondered if the royals had got to the Queen yet…
