Ancient Cultures Special #4- Ancient Mayan

Postby SerenWish » Wed May 15, 2013 2:03 am

Here is # 4 in my “Ancient Cultures” series- Ancient Maya! These ponies are all based on ancient cultures- their customs, history, and myths. Each one is special, for more reasons then just appearance!

-All of the ponies are based on a different culture.
-They all come in unusual colors and/or patterns.
- All of them have a special accessory.
-They are all customizable- you can have painted markings (like glyphs, etc.) added if you win them, all you have to do is ask!
- All of these ponies can pass down accessories to their foals! Not just the ones you see either!

In order to win this fella, just fill out the form! I will be judging on effort in the creative area, interesting names, and of course, correct answers in the trivia portion! Don’t worry if you aren’t sure of the answers, correct answers boost your likelihood of winning him, but a good creative piece goes just as well.

This stallion’s foals can have: Hoop Earring, Feathered Hair Clip (Shown), Feathered Tail Ornament (Shown). (Some accessories might cost a bit extra to get, depending on how difficult they are, colors can be chosen by you.)

The Mayan never really saw Spanish conquistadors- or, history isn't sure of that- but the Aztecs were surprised to see horses, as horses died out in the Americas thousands of years before them. So, what if the Mayan had met this little bright-colored pony? What would they think? I want you to write a Mayan legend based on this little guy. Be he a monster, legendary beast, or even a god!

What date was the world supposed to end, according the Mayan Calendar?
The world will end on 21st December 2012 at 11:11 UTC

What number is on this stallion’s foreleg (according to the Mayan numeral system)?
18

Did the Mayans practice human sacrifice?
motives is speculating. It probably was not because they didn't value human life. On the contrary, they were making a true sacrifice when they shed blood, and this they did in many forms, in addition to loss of life. Maya priests used obsidian knives, stingray spines, and knotted cords to draw blood from their own bodies as offerings to a god.

Forgot to say- you are allowed to try out for multiple ponies from this theme! XD You probably won't win more than one, but you never know!

Also, remember, the legend must be about the stallion and it must be written/illustrated BY YOU.

Did the Mayans practice human sacrifice? Yes, but rarely. They normally would sacrifice animals. Human sacrifice was only practiced in extremely special cases.

Legend:
A god may manifest himself
In the form of a little creature
Treat him well and give him house
And you may find yourself
Abounding in riches and adorned
With gold
But pay him no heed
Or kick him away
And you will be smitten
This very day

Other (Optional): So pretty! <3

Bonus: If I did a second set of these, what culture(s) would you like to see? It can be from any historical period as long as it was over a few hundred years ago. Medieval Europe and Viking Cultures :D
