Beau listened to what she had to say, something that he did not usually do. His patience was normally thin, and he often talked over others or jumped too soon at what they said, attacking their words. "Victim?" he questioned. "You make it sound as if you're the hunter, and I'm the hunted. Do you plan on harming me?" He did not stand, nor did he tense. Beau was still relaxed, limbs splayed out in front and behind him as he watched her with one curious eye. There was no warning that he would attack, no matter the answer, because he already knew it. If she had wanted to harm him, then that would place her in the category of foolish, and he had already crossed that off his list.

He chuckled at her question, letting out a large yawn as they stared at one another. "There are things that are hard to understand," he said gently. "But I'd like to understand them. How else can I do that besides having company? Even if I'd hate to admit it, there are some that know more in certain subjects than I. So tell me, what do you claim to know about?"

I stopped and listened to his reasoning. Hopefully he didn't seriously think I would want to harm him, not that I could even if I had wanted to. He was far larger than I, this much was true, so at his question a shook my head gently with a light smile on my face. "No, I do not intend to harm you. It would be foolish to harm someone who has offered their help." I explained, crossing my paws in front of me as my folded ears flicked once in the direction of north. Thought I had heard something, but I guess it was a part of my imagination.

Beau reasoned again, explaining in a simple manner about how he wished he could understand things. I nodded my head in agreement to what he was saying, and I was surpised when he asked me what I knew. I could tell you what I don't know about, and that would be hunting. Oh, I was so rancid at hunting. I chuckled as I thought of myself trying to kill a bird or rabbit, and glanced back at him for seconds. "I know about adventuring. I know where to look for treasures or where the humans would likely keep valuables. I have a chain in my shed, a shiny golden color. Do you know where I found it?" I paused, looking off into the distance with a smile as I recalled my adventure. "I found it inside of a styrofoam soft drink cup. Do I know how it got there? No, I don't but I know that because I go on so many journeys that it's important to look everywhere before deciding nothing is good." and then I realized what I said could be used as a metaphor. I often thought of leaving the town, and honestly I didn't know what stopped me, but my own words acted as a barricade towards my departure. Maybe I should stick around.

"Of course I don't believe that," he stated firmly, shaking his over-sized head. "If I did, I wouldn't have brought you here." Well, that might not have been true. Those wishing to do him harm were far easier to get to follow, and Beau didn't like the dogs that wanted to kill him simply because of the rumors that had spread around the town of Chickadee. Those were the foolish dogs. They thought they could win against him in a battle to the death, though Beau often left them living, not enjoying the killing, but wanting them to leave him alone. But that only served to spread the bad reputation, as they would limp away and tell others what had happened. If they hadn't want to kill him in the first place, he wouldn't need to attack them. He wasn't attacking this female who was displaying no sign of anger or hate.

"What is the point of that?" he mumbled. Gold trinkets and things that the humans valued were not at all valuable to a dog. Beau had seen some of these things from his old life with the humans. Necklaces and rings that his master had worn, expensive sunglasses that he grew irate when they fell of his head. It would be the same as collecting grass, though even that would be more useful. You could lay on grass and get warmth from it in the winter. Jewelry and human keepsakes were often uncomfortable to lay on. "You steal the humans most prized possessions, you're going to have someone come after you for something that you can do nothing with. Why risk your hide for that?"

"Of course I'm not going to wear it around, it'd be far too noticable. I enjoy collecting things because I find human like objects interested. The chain fascinated me for two reasons, the main reason because I thought it was pretty, and the second reason because it had been found in a cup. It could come to some use one day maybe, but if it doesn't I'll get over it. Adventuring is like an escape from the world with surprises everywhere, you never know what you'll find when you turn the corner." I explain, nodding my head as I agreed with myself.

I didn't expect him to understand. We were so different in everyway that I didn't even know why I bothered explaining my hobbies to him. Beau seemed secluded, and I wouldn't even think he had a hobby other than practicing his scowls. I was forced to smile at this, and I looked back at Beau to see if he was in fact scowling at me. "Do you like being alone?" I asked, wondering if it was an appropriate question but not caring if it wasn't. I was merely curious, and if he didn't want to answer then he could by all means ignore it. Something about the brute lead me to think of him as a grandfather that would lay on the couch, but when he children would bother him, he would swat and flail his hands around angrily, obviously disturbed.

I thought of myself as being sly. I enjoyed making my way around the town silently, observing what others were doing. I had learned many things by watching, like how to tear open a garbage sack without spilling it everywhere or making a noise. I learned what was and wasn't good for a dog to eat based on watching some stupid stray gobble down a chocolate cupcake only to be found lifeless in an alley somewhere later. Everyone knew chocolate wasn't supposed to be eaten by dogs. I rested by chin on my head, satisfied, and gazed into the distance.

"It seems silly," he continued after she had explained herself. "What use will a gold chain do you? If I went around picking up everything I thought was pretty, this alley would be full of stuff and dogs, and I'd be dead because I'd have given my food away! What use are pretty things in life if they offer you nothing in return for their beauty? You might as well collect rocks!" Or bricks, he added in his mind, now a thicker scowl crossing his face. That red brick... Flying at him... The pain it has caused. He shook his head, trying to chase away the memories, as he didn't want to ruin the moment. He was being such a 'good boy' with this female, and he hadn't yet chased her off. No need to screw it up now.

The next question she asked set him on edge. Do you like to be alone? "What does it matter if I like it or not? That's the way things are," was the immediate answer that bubbled out of his mouth, and it took on something of a growl. He had never been asked that before. No one had thought anything after his appearance and harsh nature. No one seemed to care if he liked being left alone. They just did it because they assumed he did, assumed that his callous nature was, in fact, due to other dogs bothering him, but that wasn't the truth, now was it? Beau, in fact, had spent the first year of his life searching for companionship and had thought he had found it in his abuser. Now, his thoughts had changed. What he had been taught by his mother shattered, leaving him a husk of what he was before.

"I like being left alone when the alternative is being gawked at or attacked. Would that not be the preference for most dogs?" Beauregard acted up a lot, that much was true. And often for no reason at all. What kind of answer was you looked at me too long when the question that it answered was why did you attack me? He was wrong in most of the things he did, and though he tried to set himself on the right path, he no longer knew what the right path was. Love seemed hopeless. He had tried for it, and it had left him with one less eye and a view of the world that would make hell look pleasant. He had now accidentally chosen isolation over companionship, and he wasn't quite sure how he had strayed so far from what he had set out to do, but that's how it was now, and he didn't see it changing anytime soon.

    Callie Rose
    || Callie or Rose|| calm || No one || Park || Were is every one? || No crush ||

Callie lied on her white stomach in the grass by the edge of the water fountain as her front legs stretched out in front of her over the water, her paws just touching the surface sending a ripple across the still water. Her fluffy white tipped tail lied in the damp fresh green grass behind her. Callie had her head raise high as she tried to catch the warm sun ray's in her black and white pelt. When the branches of the trees above finally moved to just the right area the sun was able to find it's way down to the pound and it covered Callie's back, face, and legs. The water of the pound shimmered and washed against the grass at the edge as a breeze blow pushing Callie's fur out of her face. She closed her eyes and smile feeling the breeze push through her fur and touch her cheeks and skin. She sighed softly and then looked around the pound, large trees covered the edges and then on the opposite side of the trees there was a walk way and wide open field. Yet Callie didn't see another dog, she had yet to see any others that day and she hated not being with her friends.

It didn't surprise methat he thought it was 'silly', because most agreed with him. I suppose it was in a way, but sometimes you could find useful things, like a shed. Or a river. "I guess you could call it silly, but I enjoy it nonetheless." I didn't ever think about how the brute's eyes disapeared, partly because I did not care. He was a creature, and I respected all creatures, especially he. My own life wasn't near as rough as his, just full of hopeless abandonement that I didn't like to talk it about.

I listened to him answer my second question sourly. "I don't suppose it does matter, it was just a question." I retorted in the most friendly way. "And you're wrong, it does not have to be that way. Everything in life is a choice, everything always leads up to something. There's always room to change." I lectured, looking at him importantly as if the words I said actually meant something to them. I told myself I wasted my breathe telling him that because as stubborn as he was, he wouldn't care about what I told him.

The afternoon was at it's highest point, and so was my thirst. I got up and stretched my muscles evenly and shook my fur. "I'm goint to search for water if you'd like to join." I added, slowly mozying out of the alley and back into the heat of the street. I would not make him come, but I certainly wouldn't mind his company more, as I enjoyed getting to know the onry dog. He was interested, everything about him made him his own different character.

i sat perched on the gate of my master's farm, looking out beyond the rickety fence-line used to keep the pillowed creatures my master orders me to herd trapped within the farm's boundaries. my ears are perked, hoping for even the slightest sound to entertain me. but no, the atmosphere around me was silent except for the wind playing with my fur. i sighed. the world stretched before me, begging me to leap across the fence and explore it, pulling me in, dragging me into its wondrous smells and exciting new sights. and who could forget the town of chickadee? just waiting, right around the corner. but no. i knew the consequences for wandering beyond the farm boundaries- my master's belt whipping my bare flesh, stinging my hide. i heaved a great sigh. freedom was so close, yet it lingered just beyond my reach.
i nuzzled through my fur which smelt like the foul drink my master drinks when he's stressed. it reeks of sadness and suffering. i cant bear it any longer so i rake my tongue through it. the scent mingles with my tastebuds, making my grooming an upmost unpleasant experience. i pulled out burs from herding the wretched creatures earlier today. they're so mindless and naive, its hard to feel sorry for them.
