It's been confirmed they're based on DDR songs, actually. The artist confirmed it on Tumblr.

The things I miss because my internet and tumblr don't get along. Yeah anyway, I had no idea as I don't have a tumblr. I like having a 'backing' before referring to a litter by a name, knowing they are based on the songs, then I don't mind calling them DDR

They can be based on something and not infringe copyright. The artist did confirm that they were based on songs in DDR.
I'm super excited to see if I got the little cutie. I have suppppper late adopts though.

Not sure if my luck is just bad or if its pitiful. All of my ponies grew up, only have 1 pillar left, missed tonight's pup and all of my chicks hit second stage. Why do summer months hate me so much?
