@Raven Feather, Isn't he adorable? I had him on the fence taking pics and he got scared of a sound. Since I was wearing a tank top, he dove into my bra and tried to hide. It was kind of cute, but kind of painful at the same time lol.

I know! Bug use to fit in one hand, now I need two to make sure he can't jump away.

They have a nice big cage now and seem to be trying to grow to fit it! Lol. I love these little guys.

Baze is still incredibly soft, Bug on the other paw has gotten more coarse fur. I'm not sure why... I also learnt that they are related. Baze's dad had a litter before his and Bug's dad was part of that litter. (Using human terms, Baze is Bug's Uncle.) Apparently Baze's dad carries some amazing hidden genes (probably why Bug's dad was a Himalayan and Bug is a dalmatian mismark)

I had a debate today about animal testing, and I was the side arguing that it's wrong. As we listened to the other team, they began to talk about how animals such as rats should be experimented on because they are pests and there are large amounts of rats on this planet, and if one dies it doesn't matter because it's going to a greater cause. Well, first off 92% of animal experiments fail on humans, but that's not the point here the point is that Rat's are living, breathing, creatures that are immensely smart and it isn't okay to say they can just die. You can bet I was furious after that to defend my babies, and made sure to put extra emotion into my debate. xD

thats like when people say "its a pet, if/when it dies (or if something happens and it dies), you can replace it"

and im thinking to myself, so can i say "sorry your child died, but you can always replace it"?

to me my pets ARE my children, im not going to dump my pets off just because people dont like them or theyre not welcomed in the place.

Unlike the US, in Ontario, the laws are actually different with pets. Regardless of what it is.

I love rats and mice, and actually prefer them over any other pets, tho i do creep out people.

Also, my 22 month old female Patchwork Hairless, has a lump near her [censored], thats huge, like she has testicles, and a smaller one on the opposite side. Im taking her to the vet on Monday. Hopefully its something that can be operated on.

Doesnt appear to be an abscess as i cant find any bite wounds, i have been soaking her in warn water and placing warm towel on the lump, but its not doing anything.

That's one thing I absolutely love about rats. They grow to trust their human and see them as a protector from all scary sounds. My boy Koda is the same way when I take him to the park or even when he's just out playing on my bed. Any scary sound and he dives headlong into my lap and hides under my knee xD

I love it! Baze is pretty calm but he will hide if something really scares him.

Bug on the other paw is much more skittish around others or being outside my room. For the most part no one but me even touches him unless I have my mom pet him. Baze is a big fan of my mom, and getting pets from anyone that will pet him.

I plan on either buying him a harness or making one then taking him to the beach or places with me. I love freaking people out with him lol

Have you ever had a rat?: Yes! Milky Way, an albino, and her sister Twix, a beautiful white and brown hooded rat. Both died tragic deaths (a seizure and a respiratory infection) and I held both while they died... needless to say, I'm not sure I'm emotionally ready for more rats yet, but I'm sure I will get more later!
I was a part of this thread in its previous version! I'm glad to be back from my nearly 12-month hiatus! :3

So... recently I lost my first rat, Vodka. It was my own fault, I left the cage door open by accident and let both my girls get out. We found Coke under the fridge, but what shocked me was Vodka was no where near her when they normally are together no matter what. The worst thing of all is that we have a cat and I left the back door open. No sign of her yet... 4th day in.
Tommorrow, though I've not given up hope, my mum said she will hopefully let me get another - as Coke is very social and isn't acting herself without her sister. The new rat will not replace my baby </3 She was beautiful to me, and she will never be replaced... so the only reason I'd be getting another is to keep Coke company.
On top of this, on a good note, I did go the the store yesterday. To my surprise they had a cinnamon(I think) hooded male, and they don't normally sell them, he's very handsome with not many faults(coat-wise)... and since we have two cages I may be getting him and a new female. So that's the plus side, though it sounds a little cruel to my Vodka who's missing. It would be wonderful if I did get two new ones... as in the future I do want to breed my rats, and Coke would be receiving a companion as well.
