Still, if you get the chance, it would be nice to see it on here!
Borak sat some distance behind the large crowd gathered around the Altar, his gray-green eyes calmly scanning the activity before him. It had been a while since his first visit to Vinara, and it had considerably grown from the silence he had last witnessed. Borak was glad of it. Though he preferred a quiet atmosphere, a place like this was suited more for friendly bustle, as it encouraged excitement in the hopes of meeting a kindred spirit, even for the shyer souls. Determining that the crowd would alert him well ahead of time when the newest Faerre, Anari, revealed herself, Borak let out a sigh and laid his graying muzzle on the ground. Laying down put less strain on his aging bones than sitting down, and he had not yet rested since arriving.
Shifting a little so that the empty leather pouch hung around his neck no longer dug irritatingly into his dark brown ruff, Borak thought back to his first visit to Vinara’s Altar. The timid Tenme had chosen someone other than him, and despite his slight disappointment, he had seen her choice and was glad of it. The creature she chose had been even more delicate than herself, and would do well in keeping her calm and comfortable in a way he couldn’t with his lumbering size. The small amount of yearning he carried for a permanent companion had held nothing to the satisfaction of seeing that moment. He had carried the burden for years and had been satisfied; it had not bothered him to carry it for a while longer. This was actually his reason for returning to Vinara. The burden had started to weigh upon him one more and, if not able to gain a companion, seeing the fated meeting of another would lighten it for him again.
A sudden hush of the once bustling crowd gave sign that Anari had arrived, and Borak stood quickly so as not to miss her appearance. Her pelt echoed the color of the skies at dusk, and gave the illusion of movement like the ripples on a breeze-swept lake. Once she began to dance though, it was no longer an illusion. She was the ripples on the lake, the wind through the mountaintops, the rustle of the leaves and the grass. She was everything Borak had seen on his travels, and yet still herself. In his eyes, Anari’s dance came from the life shared by every living thing, made unique to her by her own spirit. He understood the language well and knew that he would be able to understand her, even if she never spoke a word to him. As the dance reached its end, Borak gave a small smile. He was sure that it had been a query and an invitation all in one.
At Anari’s final move, the creatures crowding the clearing scrambled to line up in front of the stage. Borak was content to avoid the worst of the action and end up near to the end of the line. He was willing to wait; it gave him time to gather his thoughts on how he would invite the graceful dancer on his travels. Eventually as the line drew him closer and closer to the stage, he had his answer. Listening to a few of the others ahead of him had influenced it somewhat, but otherwise it came entirely from what he had seen and learnt during his travels on the kind of dance he interpreted Anari’s to be. It then came to be Borak’s turn to speak with the Faerre.
Taking care to put as much of himself into his stride as he could, Borak climbed up to the stage and stopped in front of Anari. He then gave a deep bow of his head, introducing himself as he did so.
"A pleasure Anari. I am Borak. I see that you enjoy dance, as many others have, though not the more exuberant kind that most assume at the word."
He lifted his head and continued.
"It is a kind that shows itself in every movement, from a turn of the head to the lifting of a paw. I have seen such in my travels, but not just from creatures like you and I. I witnessed it as the wind played through the meadows, as the stones of mountains fell from their perches, as the currents swirled against the riverbeds and in many other places that hold the semblance of life. In places like these I believe you will enjoy yourself. You can observe the movements, the flow and find a way to make them your own, personalize them to convey yourself. You will have multiple partners to dance with and learn new skills with this, and you can meet many travelers on the road that hold the same enchantment with dance as you with whom you can once again share and learn.”
Giving a humble smile, Borak bowed his head once more, putting a sense of finality in the movement.
"Connection is what I see through your dancing, and though I cannot promise much of my own skill, I can invite you to meet and dance with many partners of all varieties."
And picking up his head, he turned and walked off the stage and headed over to the shade of the trees surrounding the clearing in front of the Altar. Lying down, he curled up around himself and watched Anari listen to the next creature hoping to gain her companionship. Well, if he was not enough, he would at least see another meeting of kindred souls.
