"Swimming isn't too bad. And really? Winter sports are very fun! Hockey, skating, snowboarding.. Stuff like that." Cale took another sip of his coffee before taking a large bite of his apple fritter. Some of the sugary coating fell onto the table, which he quickly cleaned with a napkin. His face turned beat red, and he tried not to look to embarrassed. Take smaller bites, you big dummy! He scolded himself in his mind.

As soon as she heard Paradise's voice from the other booth, Adelaide's head whipped around. She wasn't in the mood to have a conversation, however, she also happened to dislike coming off as antisocial, and spoke up.
"Hmm? Hello," Adelaide said simply, and took a sip from her latte. "How are you?"

Kalei noticed the movement, subconsciously adjusting her feathers. "That's a nice hat. Where'd you get it?"

Paradise grinned a bit when Adelaide answered her. "I'm doing great, apart from, ngh, brain freeze," she chirruped, sticking her spoon in her mouth to bite down on it for a moment. "I don't recommend eating rainbow sherbet at light speed. 0/10 stars. Delicious but painful." At least it was only temporry; Paradise's brain freeze was starting to wear off.

Cale flipped the toque around, a addition to 'Getting ready' he had made, so that the little smiley face was facing Kalei. "I can't really remember where I got this particular one." He said, smiling. "I have more, but this one is my favorite."

Giving a quick sympathetic nod towards Paradise, Adelaide decided that she should probably eat her muffin.

Plot twist

She ordered a blackberry muffin instead of a blueberry muffin!

Gagging, Adelaide spit it out on her table in a not-so-dignified manner; this was just the type of thing that ruins lives! Momentarily, at least. There was nothing that the teen hated more than blackberries, as she had just discovered, and she swore on her life to never, ever have a blackberry muffin again.

Adelaide suddenly realized she was becoming some sort of a drama queen; perhaps it was the atmosphere? Glancing down at the partially chewed muffin, Adelaide looked over her shoulder quickly, hoping nobody saw her, and scooped it up in a napkin. She violently threw the revolting thing into the trashcan, and missed, it landing right in front of the trash and making a mess on the floor. With a slight hmph, she trotted to the other side of the cafe, and hid in her new emo corner; this was NOT the way she imagined her first visit going.
