57 - "Protector" - Avalon

The Protector watched warily as the knight left his post. At the prince's offer, Ferston shook his head along with his beard. "No need, laddy. I'm not quite done with ya yet. My orders was to follow yer 'round until things're a bit more settled. What with ya just been kidnapped anyhow." The older man gave him a toothy grin. "Do ya know the head knight at all, lad?" he asked, picking at his teeth. Some dried bit of meat had accidentally gotten between his molars..

Azure nodded and straightened up as he moved from the door "if you wish me to leave sir, then I will, and I am aware of the castle's security, but as the head Knight I should take all the nessaccasry precautions to keep you and the princess safe"

The prince was a aware of a sudden wishing for his bed, or simply a place to sit and gulp down his stew. Dropping his eyes from the knight's, Kaleb turned and beckoned to the nearest servant. "Send several more bowls of.. whatever this is up to my room, if you would," he said quietly. He doubted that a single bowl would be able to sate his hunger. Nor the princess's. The prince turned back to the head knight of Elyadon. "Sir, you may do whatever you think is best. If following us around is what you call necessary precautions, do so. But please, do not interrupt our walk back my rooms." He awkwardly stepped around the knight, who had thankfully moved a bit from the doorway.

Kaleb was then stopped again, this time by another knight. "Good God, I only wish to get to my rooms. Is it such an impossible request tonight?" He raised an eyebrow, impatient to get going. At a mention of Prince Nick, he lost a fraction of his impatience and leaned slightly forward. "Well if anyone should accompany you to the gates, it should be the Princess and me. We do, of course, know him. Who better to identify him?" He broke through their conversation. Here stood these two irritating knights, one of which did not even take the few seconds to properly greet the royal couple. How dare he simply ignore their presence. Of course, the prince was still very hungry, but he found Nick's mysterious homecoming very interesting. He had noticed his absence during what could have been called dinner, but he hadn't thought too much on the topic. The prince had merely supposed Nick had gotten tangled in an affair with some woman, or slept through the time. That was usually what would happen with Kaleb if he was absent from dinner.

Avalon Guards
The three of them hauled her off of the horse they had pushed her onto, and dragged her to the thick line of the trees. Her hands were tied with thick cords and knots, her dress strewn with muck from their ride. They had ridden to the border of Avalon, the beginning of Elyadon. This was the site where they usually dropped off the kingdom's rejects. It was not a safe place to be. Many of the criminals they left at this place often took to hanging about. Who knew who was hiding behind the nearest tree with a dagger, perhaps? The three men quickly slit her bonds and pushed her into the forest. They walked her to the creek, as far as they could go, and left her next to the clear trickle of water. "Step one foot past the border of Elyadon and we'll hack off your foot, then slit your throat." One of the guards warned the young girl. Then they were gone, the four horses galloping back to the safety of the palace.

{ Deer - If you're free, do you think you could powerplay Nick? I'll be a bit busy for a couple more days, and I've got my hands full with the three or four characters I have at the moment. }

Brennan turned to Kaleb and Serena and bowed. "Your Graces," he said as he straightened up. "If you wish it, then I will not impede you." He looked towards the bowls in the prince and princesses hands. "After you have finished eating, of course. If the man at our gates is an impostor, he can certainly wait until the prince and princess have eaten." He gave Ser Azure Cray with a by-your-leave looked. He was under no position to anger a knight who ranked higher than he could hope to achieve. Feeling suddenly uncertain of himself, he began fiddling with the edging on his gloves behind his back.

Victor looked around the lake side as he walked with Crystal, once they got near a fallen tree trunk he looked around to see if there was anything interesting around (WB)

Azure looked at the knight who approached them and looked at Kaleb then made sure to be clear out of the prince's way if he chose to pass on his way to the gates and meet Nick. He held his hand on the hilt to his sword and wait for the prince to go before following

She saw the fallen tree trunk and climbed to the top of it and sat down. It gave her a nice view of the lake, and the forest around it. She turned her head towards the right and she saw something scurry off quickly. She made a smile when she saw the furry ears of a bunny hop away from them. She then hopped down and explored more of the trunk.

The prince raised an eyebrow, hinting a bit at a challenge to the second knight. "But if the man at our gates is Prince Nickolas, he would be rather impatient to return home, wouldn't he?" Kaleb turned and addressed the first knight, who seemed to hold a higher rank. "The princess and I shall greet this man at the gates, whether he is the prince or not. A trip to the palace is never taken in vain, nor for any mere fancy. Whoever this man is, he either must be important or harboring important news." He nodded once to himself, repositioning his fingers on the hot ceramic bowl. "Rena, what say you?" The prince cast a questioning glance her way, but tilting his focus to his bowl which was suddenly very hot on his fingers.

{ it's a bit strange that the head knight of Elyadon should have so much authority in Avalon. }

Serena listened to the three men discussing things and quietly ate from her stew. "I have no idea why we are still standing here while my brother is standing outside, feeling cold, after he disappeared for about a day and a half. That's nothing like Nick." The princess tilted her head slightly. "And I personally think it is really bad none of the knights of Avalon seems to know how my brother looks like." she added quietly, before she started heading towards the gates, assuming Kaleb and the knights would follow her.

Brennan felt his cheeks go warm and turned aside to hide it. "Forgive me, Your Grace. Since the recent rebellion rumors, I have feared to trust anyone from outside the gates." He started following Serena, a few footsteps behind her. "The prince's choice of clothes has done nothing but confuse me further. A battered old cloak and a run-down horse accompanied by a short, unsavory looking man." He watched his booted feet, never lifting his head as he rambled off his excuse. Fool, he thought to himself, you should have just let him in.

{Brennan is lower ranked than Azure, and since he does not know or interact with the Elyadon royals often, I assumed that he should find Azure. And I acted a little bit on Trex's suggestion. Sorry if I confused you.}
