Thoughts? Also, any critique on how the crystal effect looks?
Looks stunning! The crystal effect looks fine, easily noticed as crystal
Thank you! I am so glad the effect looks good. It was hard to figure out. XD
The Royal Mirage wrote:For a cutie mark, I'd suggest a lance of some sort. As for a jousting name, how about 'Coup de Grace' - it referred to the death-blow a knight gave to his mortally wounded opponent in a joust, and she could be Grace for short
Coup de Grace is perfect! It sounds so elegant and works well with the back story I have in mind.

Me neither, but it works quite well I think.
Thank you guys. <3
~Edit~
So I am thinking on her back story.
She comes from a long line of nobility (assuming the crystal empire is like a kingdom). The snobby, high class, snooty kind that think they are better than everyone else.
She was raised to believe she is better than everyone else and was not allowed to do much other than attend galas and social events with other nobles. She didn't hate the events, there where just so boring. She tried to make her own fun but would often get into trouble when her attitude would show.
One day her and her family attend a jousting tournament. The clashing of the lances, the cheering of the crowds and the smell of the dirt felt right. She was so amazed by all that was going on that she hardly noticed that it was already time to go.
That night she told her mother that she wanted to joust. Her mother gasped "My daughter participating in such an event! No, you will attend galas and be groomed to grow into a fine lady and marry a nice gentlecolt." Grace did not give up on her dream, she wanted it more than anything, at night she would sneak out of her house and visit the jousting grounds and often see ponies practicing late into the night.
One night when visiting the grounds she saw a flyer stapled to a post.
"Attention young fillies! The Crystal fair is soon approaching! Sign up to participate in the young fillies jousting tournament!"
Not one to think things through she signed up. She watched them practice almost every night, that would be enough, right?
Finally the day of the fair came. The tiny ewes where playing in the petting zoo, ponies where playing the flugelhorn and the sweet smell of the sweets made of crystal berries filled the air. As she walked with her parents.
Like any noble family they went to watch the jousting tournament. Gracie's heart was pounding, could she really do this? "Mother?' She said sweetly. "May I be excused?" Proud that her daughter was starting to use proper manners she let her go.
Gracie promptly hurried to young fillies tent where she would be given armor and a lance.
This was it, this was the day she would make her dream come true as she walked to her place to start her rond, she looked into the crowd and spotted her family. As the announcer said her name they went from chatting with the other nobles to a shocked looked on her mothers face and her father with a stern look. She was in for it when she got home but whatever punishment she got was worth it.
The flugelhorn signaled they where to start. She went full speed aiming her lance at the other filly and missed. Her opponent broke their lance on her chest plate and gained a point. Grace got the wind knocked out of her, the hit hurt more that she thought but she kept on.
The final round came, Gracie was losing but she did not care. The thrill she had was worth more than a win. She ran towards her opponent at the sound of the horn. She hit him but he also hit her. Knocking her helmet off and sending Grace to the ground knocked out.
She awoke in a tent not long after and was whisked away home by her parents furiously yelling at her. But she could not help smiling, her cutie mark was there plain as day, showing everyone what she was meant to do. Joust, and it made her parents furious.
So besides my terrible ability to write, what do yall think?
