Oh, yes, we read that in class. It reminds me of The Giver, which is why we read it, as we had just finished Messenger. I actually kind of liked it.
QUITTING! Don't send trades. I wont respond. And sorry to all my RP buddies.

You are the everlasting God,
The everlasting God,
You do not faint,
You won't grow weary,
You're the Defender of the weak,
You comfort those in need,
You lift us up on wings like eagles!

We are the sisters,
That reach for the hurting,
We are the brothers,
That fight for the weak,
These are the hands,
That lead the world to Jesus,
They'll know us by our love!

So did I. It is a lot like the Giver. I never noticed that before... The Giver was a great book! I loved the concept (but only for a book), even if it was creepy in the 1984-type way.

Nickname (if any): Sabine works just fine.

Top Ten Favorite Books: I'mma count every series as one book or this would be over with Sara Douglass, lol.
  1. Axis trilogy/Wayfarer Redemption trilogy/Darkglass Mountain trilogy - Sara Douglass (technically three trilogies with carryover characters but I'mma count them as one)
  2. Threshold- Sara Douglass
  3. A Song of Ice and Fire - George RR Martin
  4. Green Rider series - Kristen Britain
  5. My Side of the Mountain - Jean Craighead George
  6. 1984 - George Orwell
  7. Mr. Murder - Dean Koontz
  8. Sea of Trolls series - Nancy Farmer
  9. Kingkiller Chronicles - Patrick Rothfuss
  10. Outbreak - Robin Cook
Average amount of time it takes you to finish a book: Depends on the length of the book, obviously, and on how intrigued I am. Some books deserve a slower pace, some demand to be finished immediately. I read approximately seventy-five pages an hour, though that varies depending on the complexity of the work. I finished Twilight in about three hours in spite of the length because the language was so simple. A Dance with Dragons took me maybe fifteen or eighteen hours. 1984 about two. Most of the books in the Green Rider series take maybe four.

How many of the above symptoms you regularly experience: I don't spice up conversations with quotes people won't understand because it's rude, but with people that I know get something I'll add them in every day. I also don't interrupt movies because it's rude. I bring books to lunch when I have a new one but I don't get new books very often. I sometimes laugh or cry at books but I never abuse them. I've pulled all-nighters to read and I go cover to cover in one sitting for almost anything under 350 pages. Never fallen in love with a fictional character, though. I can keep fiction and reality straight, and prefer it that way.

Welcome! 1984's one of my favourite books also. I love that type of story.

Dystopias of all kinds are fun. ^^ The best part of 1984 to me, though, was the language. Newspeak is probably my greatest fear now, haha.

My mom is trying to get a copy of To Be a Cat for my best friend.

My dad says he's read 1984.

I completely agree. The idea of eliminating the words to express ideas that the gov't doesn't like is really disturbing...

Now every time someone complains about English being too complicated I shudder. XD Too complicated is better than too simple. Expression of ideas is the most basic aspect of freedom, individualism, and democracy.

It's a sci-fi novel written sometime in the late forties, and it tells about life in 1984. In this world, socialism and communism have taken over the entire world. Three major nations rule, Oceania, Eurasia, and I forget the other one. The gov't controls every part of life; even thoughts. I didn't describe it too well, but it's an excellent book.
