"Hmm." Maddie glanced up at the decorated lanterns, and wasn't looking where she was going. She crashed into another person. "Oh! I'm really- what the heck, AKIRA?"

"Watch where you're going, baka!" Akira snarled. He had been looking at some small stand off to the side. A closer inspection revealed it sold jeweled objects.

Maddie stared. "What the (^&$ are you doing here? I thought you were at home?"

"I'm not to happy about it either, but the minister gave me a job to do. So I had to go. And this place has a train to New York."

Maddie regarded him suspiciously. "Did anyone else come with you?"

"Lycan, duh. And some random kids I forgot the name of. It's not important."

"Lycan? Really? Huh. He never gets picked for important stuff."

Jalil nudged Maddie. "Who is this guy?" He whispered.

"He's..." Maddie tried to find the right word. "An acquaintance. But a little friendlier. We know him from school. Apparently he, my brother, and a couple others ended up here too-"

"Akira!" Lycan dashed up. "I found the train sta..tion..." He stared at Maddie. "Since when are you here?"
