"I won't," she said. "Oh, and let Mom be there for you. Don't push her away when she hugs you," she said.

"When she stops yelling at me for kicking you out I will. She always yells at me when I 'break a promise'. It annoys me." He said.

Maria bit her lip, and her heart rate got a little faster. "Don't leave again," she begged.

"Shhh. Relax, baby girl. I'm not going to leave." He said.

Maria sighed. "Promise? We need you," she said. "It was h*ll when you were gone," she said.

Trinity sat on Lucas's lap in the waiting room, still gripping the blanket. "Daddy," she cried.

"I promise. Promise me you'll take better care of yourself, especially because you are young and have so much going for you. You have a wonderful fiancé and daughter. And you have a bright future. Trust me, I know." Mason said.

"I promise," she said, and hugged him again. A few tears slipped out of her eyes.

She looked up at him. "I scared. Are you scared?"
