Thank you so much! Well, I'm glad to tell you that this story isn't going to end anytime soon. It will most likely have a sequel as well, though I don't know what I'm going to call it yet.

Chapter three

Postby mr.kingrichard » Sun May 12, 2013 9:40 am

Chapter three
Cigarette smoke clouds the mind, generally

“You did what?! Has the smoke from the cigarettes clouded your judgment as well as your eyes?” Sevgi Tiryaki-Kedi hissed, addressing her older brother, Yahya Tiryaki-Kedi, who stood before her nonchalantly, an unlit cigarette in his hand. He produced a lighter from the sleeve of his overcoat, flipping it open and pressing the flame to the tip of the cigarette before he bothered to address his younger sister.

“Calm down, please Sevgi. You think I don't know what I'm doing? I assure you, I know full well what I'm doing. Creating an alliance with the Sanura is the best thing that we could have done. And, if I'm not mistaken, you were caught hunting in the Koneko territory yesterday? If anything, I should be asking you why you did what you did.” Sevgi scuffed at the dirt with her toe, and Yahya took the cigarette between his thumb and forefinger, blowing out a cloud of smoke. The tortoiseshell and white-haired girl turned her face away, a disgusted look crossing her countenance as she did.

“Please don't do that while we're talking,” she muttered, and Yahya huffed. “And honestly, hunting in the Koneko territory isn't nearly as serious as creating an alliance with Akosua. You and I both know that she's mad. She's probably already thinking of a good way to kill you!”

“And you and I both know that the only man I fear is God,” Yahya replied coolly, putting the cigarette back in his mouth, and Sevgi bristled.

“Akosua isn't a man. Honestly, what would mother and father say if they knew you—”

“That's enough,” Yahya snapped suddenly (so suddenly that his cigarette nearly fell from his mouth), his blue eyes narrowing as she mentioned their parents. “You'll say no more on the subject. Go, do whatever you youths do at this time of night. I'd like to enjoy my habit in peace.”

    “Yahya—”

    “Go. Out.”

Defeated, Sevgi wrinkled her nose as she left the house that she and her brother shared, slamming the door rather loudly behind her as she went. Honestly, he was treating her like a child, and she was almost eighteen. There was no reason for him to be so cold, especially when she mentioned mother and father. Sure, Yahya hadn't had the best relationship with them when they were alive, but was that really enough to banish his sister from the house? She didn't think so. Well, it really didn't matter to her anyway, she didn't want to be stuck in that house with a cloud of cigarette smoke swirling over her head.

Going outside had its own annoyances, though, and Sevgi rolled her eyes as she saw the biggest one approaching her with gusto, a lopsided grin on his face: Musa Badem-Kedi, one of her many admirers (albeit the most vocal about it). The girl sighed, knowing that now that he'd seen her, there was no escape. The tom jumped like a new foal towards her, and Sevgi regarded him with contempt. “What is it now, Musa?”

“Do you remember that fancy watch you were eying in the store the other day?” Musa asked, wriggling his eyebrows a bit as he spoke. Great. He'd bought another expensive item to attempt to win Sevgi's affections. Sevgi groaned loudly, rolling her eyes again. As she did, she remembered her mother's words (“Sevgi Tiryaki-Kedi, if you keep rolling your eyes like that they're going to roll right out of your skull!”) while she attempted to put on a good face for Musa.

    “Now, Musa—”

“Ah ah ah, dear, you're taking it whether you want it anymore or not!” Musa shoved the intricately detailed golden watch towards Sevgi, who took it reluctantly and slipped it on her wrist. It was a very nice watch, yes, and it fit almost perfectly, but its value in her eyes had decreased significantly knowing that it was coming from Musa. “The boys and I had to...ah...haggle with the store owner for almost an hour before he agreed to “gift” it to us for free.”

Sevgi looked at Musa crossly, folding her arms over in front of her chest. “Did you rob another store? Musa...”

“Well, technically it wasn't a robbery, he did end up giving it to us!”

“Did you pressure him into it?”

    “Well, yes—”

“Then it's robbery. Now if you'll excuse me, I'd like to try to find Seda. She and I have a date tonight,” Sevgi muttered as she started to push past Musa. At the word “date”, he stiffened and caught her shoulder, though he didn't turn his head to address her.

    Date?”

“Oh come now, Musa. It's not a romantic date, just a bit of time for us she-cats. The best time to go shopping for lingerie is at night, anyway.” She grinned back at him, and Musa shifted uncomfortably. She and her friend weren't really going lingerie shopping, they were visiting one of the new restaurants, but the best way to keep the tom from annoying her was to mention anything feminine, and he practically ran in the opposite direction. The last thing she wanted to do was have Musa attempt to tag along with her. “Thank you for the watch, I'll be going now.” She removed Musa's hand from her shoulder, and before he could protest, took a sharp turn into an alley and climbed up the side of a building onto the roof.

Now that she was alone, Sevgi took time to glance down at the watch that sat on her wrist. It was a very beautiful watch, indeed; the outside of the watch was completely made of gold, and the outer sides of the watch face was silver. The watch face had many diamonds on it, and the watch hands and numbers were painted green and brown.

Green and brown. Like hazel. Like the eyes of the Japanese Bobtail tom that she'd seen when she was caught in the Koneko territory. But, wait, why was she thinking about that? Stop thinking about how amazing his eyes were.

Doing her best to dislodge the thought of sharing a nest with the Japanese Bobtail tom, Sevgi climbed down the side of the building and trotted off down the street.
