The ways and signifigance of a mermaid are vital to know. They choose to live amongst people,
but there are some catches to this. They cannot willingly change like a shifter would, as told
in legends, and they are not ever sceduled to change like werewolves, the kind who walk on two
legs like humans. No, mermaids are much different. At even the slightest drop of water, they have
about seven to fifteen seconds before their two legs mold together to form one giant tail of scales.
Now the scales either match the color of their eyes, or their general steryotypical personality, but
thats usually only the case with 'hot-heads' [red scales] or with calm souls [blue scales], so its
mostly based of eyes. Just like legends, they are sirens, being with such beautiful voices they seem
to lure the male gender within their grasp, but its like an on and off switch. Therefore, they have
the ability to sing but not have it effect a human. Mermaids can breath underwater without having
to breach for air for an infinite amount of time. With their tails comes gills, which make their
presence known apon their hips. When in mermaid form, they look exactly like their human form,
except with a giant tail fin. Almost every mermaid are given their 'power' through their genes, at age
fifteen so it needn't be a secret from family. There are some rare cases though where a human, in
what legends call a 'Sacred Pool', is given the ability, but its only been known to occur when they've
gotten wet with the pool's water apon a time when all the planets align, a 'Spear' they call it, and like a
full moon effects a werewolf, it clouds their sense within their minds, gathers them all together, and
out they go to kill sailors and their crew, just as they did so in ancient times. They communicate
in English above water, and through a matter or clicks and other sounds in their throat, just as
dolphins do with their pod. They can swim in speeds up to ten miles per hour, which isnt alot
compared to what a elecrticity/ gas powered boat can do, but for swimming its pretty incedible.
There is some sort of unspoken rule book amongst the fantasy creatures, one all must follow. The
rules are simple really, common sense: one, don't rat out other mermaid's secrets. two, use your
power for good and only for good. last and formost, three, do not expose yourself to a human.
