I mean, yeah, they are endangered, or mainly, rather under risk of being so, but there are so many species that are in worse danger. Why not try to protect the copperbelly water snake, the Hawaiian hoary bat, relict leopard frog, giant kangaroo rat? Wolves are better known, they have more support.
Sometimes I think the only time people are interested in saving animals is when the animals are fluffy. And have cute pups that look like our dogs...

I agree.. Except, wolves aren't even endangered. In many areas they're OVERPOPULATED. In most areas though they are just at a stable population. Hence why they're classified as least concern.

So yeah. Wolves don't need our help. At all right now.

Grey wolves, before anyone starts up about pure red wolves and such. Obviously this isn't about them.

i kind of wish people would stop focusing all their efforts on grey wolves, too. honestly, they're way over protected. it's great to want to conserve a species, but prohibiting it from simply being managed when it needs to be is a rather ridiculous thing to do, it seems that so many people are on about 'stopping wolf slaughter'. granted there are species of wolves that needed to be saved, protesting against wolf hunting as a whole certainly isn't going to help them.
but this isn't to say that being against hunting is dumb or anything, of course, because it's completely reasonable to think like that. it just seems that way too many people focus on wolves when there's plenty of animals who actually do need more support and help.

^agreed. I do like wolves, but to be honest, there are so many more species that are much more help, while wolves are actually overpopulated in some places.
I'm not saying that wolves don't need to be protected as well, but it shouldn't be as top-priority as it is.

♥ I am against hunting when it gets over board and i am definitely against trapping it leaves wolves in pain left there to die until the trapper goes and gets it and kills it. ♥

[foothold] traps are completely painless, most of them are absolutely pain free when set off on humans and we don't even have extra pad and fur to protect us. foothold/coil spring traps are merely designed to hold the animal, not cause it pain, dig into its foot, etc. and if the traps meets humane [legal] standards, they're completely painless. damaged paws very drastically effect the value of the pelt, anyway, so it'd be dumb for a trapper to use a trap that hurt the animal in any way. traps used today are padded, and are designed to be humane, so don't worry.
in fact, footholds have played a major role in red and grey wolf conservation as it's much easier to observe and potentially tranquilize them when they can't move, and they can easily be released afterwards as footholds, unlike other traps that kill instantly, do not cause any damage at all.

also, a trapper must check their traps every 24 hours or less by law. trapping seems to be frowned upon by a lot of people, even other hunters, which i find kind of discouraging as all of these rumors about how the animals are 'left in pain for days, and chew off their own legs' are just that - completely false rumors. illegal traps used by poachers will hurt the animal more often than not, but that is poaching, not trapping.

~Minty~ wrote:Personally, I don't like wolves. I mean, they are okay, but they ARE Overpopulated in some areas. Here in Canada, we only hunt during hunting season, when pups are maturing and know how to hunt. Hunting and poaching are two VERY different things.
Hunting: Killing an animal quickly, using the animal or selling it.
Poaching: Killing things illegal to hunt, killing the animal slowly and putting it in pain, trapping an animal and waiting for it to starve to death, ect.
I don't care if people hunt wolves in overpopulate/stable areas. In an area where they are indangered or illegal, its a different story. I don't like how ever since the wolf was indangered , millions of people still threaten to shoot a hunter if they shoot a wolf when population is stable .-.

And I don't like how some people always are like"Oh, thats indangered? Whatever, SAVE THA OVERPOPULATED WOLVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!"
This was not ment to offend anyone, but some people are like that.

I don't want to offend anyone, but can people stop ranting and all? This thread was made for wolf lovers and not wolf hunts, let me quote a rule ^^

1. If you dislike wolves or have something against them, please don't post here. This thread is for wolf-lovers only. :U

I am a wolf,
running through the trees.
Following the scents
on the midnight breeze.
I am a wolf,
standing with my beautiful mate.
We must stand strong and ]brave
and face any callenges sent by fate.
I am a wolf,
hunting with my pack.
With the young and old wolves waiting
for meat to be brought back.
I am a wolf,
wild, fierce and free.
Living in forests and mountains
s t r e t c h i n g as far as the eye can see.
I am a wolf,
I'd never want to be anything more.
And I hope that even after I'm gone,
there will be wolves forevermore.
