*~Introduction~*
The year is 1770, five-to-six years before the start of the American Revolution. In the small town of Lexington, Massachusetts, Colonists are picking sides. They are either the loyalists, or the patriots. For a patriot, freedom is imminent. The tyranny of the British Empire must come to an end, and they will stop at nothing to be released from the British. For a loyalist, however, freedom can wait. They do not believe that the British have oppressed them, and staying with them as a colony would keep themselves affiliated with the mother country.
It is the time for the people to choose their sides: loyalists or patriots? It has become a battlefield for the people that want their freedom or their loyalty to stay. In a town that is so closely tied, outsiders that appear from the coast are also a constant mystery to the inevitable revolution that is to come.

Postby Captain Kaycee » Tue May 07, 2013 4:47 pm

Captain Kaycee Forms:

Name: Nathaniel Devol
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Eye Colour: Light blue, the same colour as his sister.
Hair Colour: Unlike his sister, he has brown and short hair that spikes up in the front.
Ethnicity: British
Clothing: Nathaniel almost always wears a dark red coat, yet it doesn’t look anything like a typical coat for the British Army. In fact, it is more for a captain of a ship, complete with tall boots, black trousers, and a black tricorn hat. He never wears a wig despite most of the nobles, and instead leaves his own hair to stick out from under the hat.
Height: 6’ 1’’
Other Looks: There are several scars on his body, but one of the most prominent is the scar of a bullet wound that is on the right side of his chest. The bullet no longer resides in him, but the imprint of it remains.
History/Background Info: I’ll write this later, like you |D
Personality: Nathaniel’s personality is driven by his hatred for the country at which he came from. After the death of his mother, he became much more cold to his sister and started to fight much more in the struggle between the British and the colonists.
Other: None~

Name: Catherina ( Enos) Devol
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Eye Colour: Light blue
Hair Colour: Long blonde hair that reaches down mid-back.
Ethnicity: British
Clothing: When Catherina is not dressing herself up as a boy, she normally wears a regal blue dress that appears much more expensive than it actually is. She rarely wears a bonnet, and instead lets her hair down and curled. When she wears boy clothing, however, she makes herself look more like a sailor and a hat to conceal her hair and some of her face.
Height: 5’ 5’’
Other Looks: Catherina looks like a typical European: blonde hair, blue eyes, and pale skin. She appears to be wealthy as well as her brother, yet she chooses constantly to hide herself in secret in other towns and cities other than her own. She even goes by different names,
History/Background Info: I’ll write this later, like you |D
Personality: Catherina is much different than her brother. Unlike Nathaniel’s anger and cold heart after their mother’s death, she is much more affectionate. At least, it is when she is acting like a noble woman. When she hides herself as a boy, she acts much more with excitement and free-spirited, like her actual nature is.
Other: None~

mah basic forms goes here XD still deciding on names.

Form:
Username: Cloudsong
Character Name: Deidre Barnes
Age: Nineteen
Eye Colour: Dark brown - almost black.
Hair Colour: Silky black, long and straight that reaches mid-back. She has bangs.
Ethnicity: Native American. She was adopted as an infant from a fallen Indian tribe - the Cherokee. Her adoptive father had been the one leading the attack on the tribe, and he decided to save the infant from the mess, not able to blame such a helpless child. Though he had not been planning to adopt the child, Deidre's father had no choice when his wife saw it and declared that they were going to keep her. Since then, she has grown up alongside her brother, Walden, and has learned everything a noble girl should. Despite her exotic appearance, there is no difference between Deidre and the other noble girls her age.
Clothing: Rich dresses. Because she has such a different appearance as her mother, who is blonde (like everyone else in her family), it at first was a challenge to find clothing to suit Deidre's dark hair and tan skin. She seems out of place wearing pastels like pink and blue, but whites and darks.
Height: 5' 9"
Other Looks: Unlike her brother and parents, Deidre has the typical look of a Native American Indian. She has olive-colored skin that darkens when she is in the sunlight for very long. Her hair is probably her favorite feature, as it is naturally healthy and straight black. She is often discriminated because of her appearance. The other colonists view the Indians as a nuisance - invaders on their land. Her appearance only arises hate for most. They look her and only see an Indian, despite her high-class and upbringing. Deidre never had the chance to be judged as a person, and it made her a little bitter. Contrary to what most would expect, she is not ashamed of her heritage - though she knows little about it, as her father refuses to tell her anything - and she would not want to change to be the sterotypical blonde with blue eyes, however much that would make the rest of society accept her.
History/Background Info: Born into the Cherokee tribe, Deidre is one of the few survivors, since her adoptive parents decided to take her in as their own child. She was not told very much, and is not aware that it was her father who had been the one leading the attack that killed all of her biological family.
Personality: Being judged caused her to become strong-willed and determined.
Other: None ;D

.:Boston, Massachusetts Bay Colony - 1755:.

The fresh smell of the sea lingered in the air, and seagulls littered the sky. They circled around the main mast of a large ship, its sails blowing with the wind. It carried more immigrants that wanted to start a life within the new world; many of them had finally managed to get just enough money to pay their way aboard.

As for the nobles, they had their own separate area. They didn't have to work for the ship like many of the poorer immigrants; they were the captains and the ones who gave orders. Among them was the captain himself, who continued to shout out commands to the crew members. Next to him stood a little boy, no more than eight years old. He was wearing his father's hat on his head, though it was obviously much too big for him.

"Daddy! Look, when I grow up I'll be a captain just like you! And I'll go destroy some of those mean French ships! Just like that time you did!!" the boy shouted, jumping up and down in enthusiasm.

The captain laughed and picked up his son into his arms, pushing the tip of his hat up on the boy to see his striking blue eyes. "I do not doubt that, Nathaniel!" he laughed, walking to the bow of the ship and pointing to the shoreline of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. They were nearing the New World, a new start to a life in the colonies.

"See that, my boy? This'll be our new home. Your mother, sister, you, and me... we'll all live in the same estate just outside the city of Boston! And you know what? Someday this ship will be yours and you can sail wherever you want," his father explained, watching as the boy's eyes lit up in complete joy.

"Only if he continues to eat his vegetables! The little troublemaker won't even take a bite of them at dinnertime!" a voice shouted from behind him.

Turning around, the captain noticed his wife and their little daughter. She was barely five years old, and was wearing a little pink dress with a doll stuffed in her hands. The little girl was a spitting image of her mother; her hair was the exact same colour. Her eyes, however, matched both her father's and brother's eyes.

"Oh he will, won't you, Nathan?" the captain chuckled. Nathaniel nodded his head rapidly, but anything that would have been said after was cut off by one of the crew members.

"Captain, we need you at the helm. We're nearing the city of Boston and they expect our arrival," the sailor explained, his hands behind his back in a gentleman-like manner.

"Of course, thank you Peter." The captain set Nathaniel on the deck next to his wife and daughter, patting him on the top of his hat. "I'll be right back, alright? Watch your old man work his wonders of sailing this beauty into the harbor," he laughed, but his wife simply rolled her eyes at him.

"Oh you used to be so horrible... you'd crash everything!" the mother joked. She picked up the little girl in one arm and guided Nathaniel's hand with the other, leading them towards the side of the ship.

"This'll be our home, just like your father said... it'll be the best place for you both to grow up in..."

.:Fifteen Years Later - Lexington, MA:.

"Nathaniel! You've been in your room all day! Come out and get some fresh air!" a female voice yelled through a closed door. She stood in the hallway, her arms placed on her hips. "Really, Nathaniel! Are you going to do this!? I thought that we were going to take a trip to Boston today anyway! Or at least ride the horses through the Frontier! Ugh!"

At that moment she slammed her fist against the door, only to shriek back in fright as it opened. Nathaniel looked nothing compared to the little boy he had been on the ship long ago. He was an older man; his dark hair was clean cut and his clothing matched that of his father's. His signature red coat hung down to his knees, with his hands folded across his chest. The only thing missing was the hat he had worn nearly fifteen years ago.

"If you stopped screaming at me you would have heard me saying I don't want to go, Catherina," he snarled at her. Catherina was almost taken aback at his venomous tone, yet she didn't appear like it had been the first time.

"Nathan, you rarely leave the house since... well, since Mum died. But you need to come out sooner or later. Just this once, okay? Then I promise I won't bother you anymore!" Catherina pleaded with him.

It took almost two full minutes of silence to pass by before Nathaniel looked up at her. He let out a long sigh after pondering within the silence, letting the door swing all the way open. He walked out of his room and nudged past his younger sister, an irritated look on his face. It was obvious he didn't want to do this, yet there was a look that said he needed activity. At least the town would be a little less annoying than his sister.

"Come on, I'll get the horses suited up to the carriage. I don't want to ruin your little whiny party for me finally getting out of my room." Nathaniel couldn't help but have a smug look on his face as he said this, and could only imagine the look on his sister's face. If he had looked back, he would have seen her give him the look a bull had at the human waving a red cape at him. However, he didn't even catch a glimpse and headed into the outside world without another word to her.

Re: .:The Dawn of a Revolution:. (1x1)

Postby Cloudsong » Thu May 09, 2013 1:03 pm

Though it was only early in the evening, the bleak bit of sunlight that escaped through the clouds did not give the time justice. While Winter had only just turned itself in for the year, the coming of Spring did not bring the extensive brightness that everyone seemed to identify the season with. It was not cold, though a bit cool - enough for some to keep inside to escape the prospect of rain which could fall at any moment. Many of the citizens of Lexington did not understand weather patterns very well, as Deidre was somewhat embarrassed to realize. When they saw clouds, they automatically assumed rain, and nothing more. Just like they did when they saw her - an Indian girl in noblewomen's clothing. They did not see that in her eyes an intelligent young woman peaked through, nor did they realize her potential to actually live up to the surname her parents had given her as an infant.

She stood on the porch of her family's large estate, leaning her elbows against the white-washed wood. Their house was on the outskirts of the town, but it was easily one of the richest of the lot. Its location gave them privacy and wilderness, and at the same time was the precise location to be close enough to the mainstreet only at a minutes walk. The girl seemed somewhat out of place, as her appearance certainly was too wild to be among such british riches. But in a way, she seemed somewhat tamed to be there in the first place, and the look on her face was a far-off, pensive one.

The sound of footsteps approaching the estate was the only thing that awoke her from her daydream, and Deidre glanced down instantly towards the source of the noise, seeing her brother Walden ascending the steps. He wore a dark blue jacket, a red-white and blue pin attached to the front. By the look of him, Deidre could tell that he was tired, though she was unsure what he had been doing all the time.

As he stepped up to join her, she angled her position towards him, taking in his expression with more detail.

Walden sat himself down on the elaborate bench that was positioned against the wall, and laid his head up against the wall, closing his eyes. A small sigh escaped his mouth.

Deidre silently went to join him, sitting down on the other side, her gaze directed towards the countryside once more. Their relationship always was a quiet one, as Walden was not one for many words - except for when he was in front of a crowd, when he became a natural speaker.

"Hard day?" she asked after a moment, watching as his eyes opened quickly towards her voice, however soft it was. He seemed on-edge, causing her to worry slightly. Where had he been all day to be reacting like this?

"Just training Dad's new recruits. The usual, you know." He said the words easily, and then seemed to regain the interest in sleeping, as he closed his eyes once more.

He was lying to her. Deidre knew her brother well enough to know, and the little things caught her attention. She was silent for a moment before reaching out and touching the tricolored piece of fabric pinned to his shirt. It caused him to flinch, opening his eyes instantly. "What's this?" she asked quietly, retrieving her lithe hand from his reach as he hastily unhooked it from his shirt, shoving it into his coat pocket.

"It's nothing - just a souvenir a friend brought back from England."

Another lie. Deidre frowned slightly, but didn't want to question him. She knew he didn't like it when he would, and in that particular moment she didn't want to get him into a heated argument.

Walden seemed to sense her discomfort, and quickly found his voice. Of course he did not want her to go and mention this to Father, as it might arise some questioning. His father would know the truth about his lie, and might suspect the worse - which in this case, happened to be the truth. "So I didn't forget, you know," he said after a moment, smiling slightly. It seemed foreign on his face, as he was usually too serious to smile. But it was a warm smile, and enhanced his features.

Deidre tipped her head to one side, raising an eyebrow. "Hmm?" she questioned, absentmindedly stroking one of the brown laces that had come undone from her sleeve.

"I know it's your birthday," Walden confirmed. He reached inside of his pocket and brought out a small parcel, wrapped in brown paper. It was misshapen and average looking, but as he handed it to her, a smile lit her face. "Er, Happy birthday," he said, somewhat unenthusiastically. It wasn't out of the ordinary however, as he was never one to be animated when he spoke.

Deidre gingerly took the parcel into her fingers, and she opened it up, reaching inside. Her fingers brushed against something soft, and she blinked, seeming intrigued as she pulled out the present that her brother had gotten.

It was a necklace, a beautiful thing made out of blue crystals woven intricately around wooden beads. Deidre found herself stunned by the beauty of it, and she was momentarily speechless, simply awestricken by the thing. "Walden... it's beautiful," she breathed after a moment, a bright smile breaking out on her face. "I.... where did you get this?"

Walden seemed pleased by her reaction, and he allowed her another small smile - quite an honor. "A trader from town sold it to me. He said it's originally crafted by the Native Americans; hand-woven by a girl who lives across the border."

Deidre blinked, somewhat surprised by this. Usually people of her race did not make any merchandise - at least, that she had known about. She had never met another, and had only been told so by her parents and friends. "I love it," she murmured, her fingers running over the little thing.

"I thought you would," he responded solemnly. "It would look good on you - better than the pearls Mother got you for your last birthday." He chuckled slightly, as if amused by the memory.

Deidre smiled slightly, too. While her mother had had good intentions giving her the expensive jewels, they had clashed horribly with her dark appearance, and had looked atrocious on her. Even her Father had laughed upon seeing her wearing the pearls. "Help me with the clasp, will you?" she handed the necklace to Walden, and quickly lifted up her dark hair, turning around to expose the back of her neck to him.

He obliged, pulling the clasps together to close it, and even patting it down to smooth it out. As Deidre turned around, allowing her hair to fall down once more, he let out a whistle, raising an eyebrow.

"What? Does it look ugly?" she asked, seeming to frown slightly. Before he could respond, she had stood up and approached the window, eager to see her reflection through the glass.

"No. You look beautiful in it, Deidre. Prettier than any of those girls that make fun of you behind your back." He said the last words with malice, as if the idea of his sister being mocked because of her different appearance was one that disgusted him.

She smiled, seeming somewhat touched by his words. "Thank you," she murmured, once again grateful to her brother's kind words.

Re: .:The Dawn of a Revolution:. (1x1)

It had only taken ten minutes for Nathaniel to finish strapping the horses to the carriage. He had been taught how to when he first came to America, and now it was like a second nature to him. He knew all of the different ropes to tie on ships, how to take apart a rifle and put it back together within a few minutes, and even when to lift or drop the sails according to the wind when out at sea. It had been his father who taught him all of this, yet it had been all in the past.

His head lifted up from picking one of the horses' hooves when he noticed Catherina stepping out of the house. She was still wearing her dress from earlier, but had a satchel in her hand filled with something. He guessed that she was going to do what she always did. Catherina hated having to wear corsets and dresses; she had more freedom dressing as a boy. At least, as long as she didn't get caught.

"You switching your outfit in the carriage or when we get there?" Nathaniel grumbled. His sister looked up to see him roll his eyes, but she already had a smirk on her face.

"The carriage, since you'll be driving. Besides, this way I won't have to deal with all of those prats that try to woe me in this damn dress. It's much better like this." Catherina winked at him, before opening up the carriage and climbing inside. Almost immediately upon entering the cushioned interior, she started to work on getting out of her dress and instead hiding her true appearance.

Outside, Nathaniel had climbed onto the front of the carriage and grabbed the reins, smacking down hard for the horses to begin at a quick trot. He heard the sound of a squeal from inside, a chuckle escaping his lips. If there was one thing he enjoyed doing, it was messing with his sister. He knew that she would be giving him a glare if she could, but instead he simply descended from the hill from which their estate resided.

Re: .:The Dawn of a Revolution:. (1x1)

Postby Cloudsong » Thu May 09, 2013 2:43 pm

Walden didn't seem convinced, and as if he did not want to drop the topic yet. Instead, he glanced over at her, surveying her with a thoughtful appearance. "Don't listen to those girls," he said suddenly, taking her by surprise by wanting to speak about it once more. It wasn't a novelty for Diedre to be picked on by the people her age - in fact, most people of the town would talk darkly behind her back. But obviously something had caused him to become recently aware of this matter, and although he wasn't usually one for giving advice - or speaking in general - now seemed to be an exception.

Deidre bit her lip, giving her brother a questioning look. "Why are you bringing this up now?" she questioned, her tone somewhat uncertain as she thought about the entire situation.

"I overheard some girls on my way back to town," he admitted, somewhat casually. "But I won't repeat the vulgarities they were giggling about."

"Then why mention it at all?"

Walden shrugged. "It just came to mind. I think that they pick on you because they're jealous - insecure people always try to pull everyone down to their own level." He paused. "Just don't let them succeed."

Deidre forced a smile, trying to put his mind to rest. She had long since gotten used to the idea that she would probably never belong. But obviously Walden did not. Wanting to change the topic, she brought up another topic. "Sarah Wheeler came by today, while you were gone." She raised an eyebrow, wanting to see if the name caused any reaction. It did not. "She wanted to see you."

"Sarah Wheeler is a bore," Walden sighed, reaching up to ruffle his blonde hair.

"She didn't seem to know of this opinion you have of her," Deidre teased.

Walden smirked. "Like I care what a prissy like that thinks," he replied. He suddenly stood up, offering her a hand to help her up. "Let's go out to the town. I'll buy you another present for your birthday."

Deidre slowly accepted the gesture, pulling herself up to stand next to him. Though she was tall for her age and gender, Walden still towered over her. "I don't need another present," she protested. "You already got me the perfect gift, and mother got me this dress."

Walden however, was not taking no for an answer. "Then let's go show it off," he replied easily, pulling her off towards the steps.

She laughed before following, her hand feeling cold when he released it. It was so rare to catch her brother in a mood like this, that she didn't want to waste it.

They walked in silence, side-by-side as they approached the town. Deidre tried to start conversation on the way, but Walden made it clear with his astute replies that he was not in the mood for teasing chatter. After a few attempts, the girl finally fell silent, falling into the familiar silence that was her life.

It wasn't long before they reached the trading strip, a long street that ran through the center of town. The young girls would all converge into hushed whispers as they went by, perhaps talking about Walden's handsome face, or ridiculing the girl that was on his arm. Probably both. Either way, Deidre didn't want to consider this. All she wanted was to spend a pleasant time with her brother, her best - and only - friend in this world.

The sound of hooves sounded on the gravel on the ground that led into the center of town. Nathaniel had slowed down by the time he entered the main street, seeing many of the residents looking at the bazaars on the side of the road. He could tell that people were looking at he and his carriage, but luckily Catherina had pushed down the shades to keep anyone from looking inside.

He stopped the horses towards the end of the street, before stepping off and knocking on the door of the carriage. "Hey, Catherina? You still in there?" he asked. Almost immediately the door opened, revealing somebody that looked very little to his sister. She had her hair up in a small cap, hiding her locks and leaving just a few strands sticking out. She even had boots, trousers, and a long brown coat that concealed her chest.

"Like I would just jump out of a carriage," Catherina joked, punching him lightly in the shoulder. "But I'm going to check out a few of the stands and maybe hit the pub-"

"Why do you even bother with this, Catherina? You always do this... you even steal bread from that bakery stand! Why the hell do you do this when we have enough money for other things?" Nathaniel asked, folding his arms across his chest.

"Because this is more exciting than standing around in a corset, Nathan. Maybe you try wearing one for a few minutes, and then tell me what you would rather wear." At that, Catherina suddenly began to head off towards the shops, leaving Nathaniel standing there by himself.

"W-Wait... oh for goodness sake..." he sighed, turning his head away. He had already lost sight of Catherina, and instead began to look at the little shops on the side of the street with his hands shoved in his coat pockets.
