I'm having the same problem. I either can't find someone with the pet I'm wanting to trade up to, or they aren't willing to trade.

Thats just not right.
You dont have to gift everybody. And you definitely wouldn't gift them now.
People dont usually get gifted but it is very nice and generous when somebody does.
just asking for them is rude.
Just rude.
You should report them and ignore them.
