What I do is I haven't read the bible yet, I mean I have read genisses and revelations bit thats it. What i try and do is maybe break away from those story's and read other peoples. Get to know peoples struggles with faith, and times where they couldn't possibly feel gods presence more. Sorta like a book that you can explore like the bible but seems much more real and closer to you. And I was showed the way to use my writing and my singing to praise the lord and spread the word of his love in a more modernized yet fulfilling way.

That's great that you're reading! I'd actually encourage you to read the book of John, being my favorite one of the Gospels. It focuses on the life of Jesus which is hands down the greatest story ever! Genesis and Revelations are two great books but will feel a little out of context without reading the heart of the Bible first. If you want to read about other people's stories, I'd suggest Job or maybe Ruth. I know for a fact that Job will make you understand God in a different way. If you aren't familiar with his story, he basically lost his entire family, all his livestock, and even his health. His friends and own wife told him to just curse God and die because he had gone through so much. -spoiler alert- He doesn't and God blesses him for his faith. It's really encouraging C: I'm reading through the Minor Prophets (Hosea, Joel, through Malachi) and it's pretty intense what God has these men and women go through for His glorious plan of redemption. It's a definite eye opener to God's grace for His people (Israel at the time, Gentiles later) and His patience with us. It's amazing and I really encourage you to read on! The Bible is amazing when you give God the chance to speak to you through it.

Well it's great that you're starting, but like supernuk said, you should try John, or perhaps find some sort of reading plan to put you through the Bible?
My church is currently doing a 'Story of Hope' thing, in which we read through the Bible in a year, and learn how it all is interconnected.
It's important to read the Bible, because you are reading directly from God's word. There are great, inspiring videos like the one you posted, but you should make sure that your foundation for faith is the Bible.
Because there are books or videos that claim to be Christian, but really aren't. And it's easy to believe they are teaching the Bible accurately if you don't know what the Bible really says.
