Welcome to the 'everlasting land', Aterna. A world not unlike our own, Aterna is filled with many kinds of plants and animals - The Lapili you see available for adoption here are just one of many species native to this land. Admittedly, it's rather small - The planet itself is quite a bit smaller than our own, and the surface is mostly water, with the only notable landmass being the continent of Aterna, which shares it's name with the planet it exists on, and its nearby islands. Unlike our own world, the world of Aterna has two moons - Of course, neither of them is habitable, from what we can tell.

Despite the relatively small area, there are quite a few notable areas, with more being discovered occasionally.

Currently known areas:

Sliva Forest - A fairly large forest covering much of the land on the continent. It is located somewhat close to the equator, and is generally fairly warm year round, with the coolest places being south of Piscina Lake. It is rumored that a phoenix-like species, the Luxia, reside there.

Piscina Lake - The Piscina Lake is an average-sized pool of water located in the southern area of Silva forest. It is known for its crystal clear waters. Supposedly, there is an underground channel connecting this lake to Lake Amaya. It is also rumored that an aquatic, seahorse-like species known as the Mizumia resides in these two lakes.

Lake Amaya - A relatively large lake south-east of the Silva Forest. It is said to be connected to Piscina Lave by an underground channel. It is connected to Aterna's giant ocean by the Amnis River, and is supposedly one of the locations that the Mizumia reside.

Amnis River - A large river in the south of Aterna connecting Lake Amaya to Aterna's great ocean. Branching off from it is the smaller Flumen River.

Flumen River - A smaller river branching off from the Amnis river. It connects to a small, unnamed lake that appears to have nothing particularly notable about it.

Suna Desert - A large desert to the west of Silva Forest. It is incredibly hot and dry, making exploration rather limited at this time due to lack of funds.

Nix Mountains - A tall mountain range north of Silva Forest. Very little is known, besides that the high altitudes leave it incredibly cold. As with the Suna Desert, the extreme conditions and lack of funds have made exploring this region difficult.

Iocal Forest - A strange forest located on an island to the northeast of the main continent. It is known for crystals that grow alongside the plant and animal life. This small island is, in fact, the home of the Lapili.
Besides these, there is a beach stretching across the island, and a spit slowly growing out from the southern side of the easternmost part of the continent. The remainder of the planet's surface appears to be covered in ocean.

The Lapili are a snake-like species found in the Iocal Forest, on an island to the northeast of the main continent of Aterna. They can use various powers, are incapable of verbal communication outside of hissing and the like, and can come in many colors and designs, as well as having several different kinds of gems.

Full-Gemed Lapili
Rarity: Very common.
These Lapili have a full set of gems, with both the neck and tail gems and the spinal ones. These are the most common of all the Lapili breeds.

Partial-Gemed Lapili
Rarity: Common.
These Lapili have only one set of gems, with only the neck and tail gems or the spinal gems. They are slightly less common than the Full-Gemed Lapili. Their lack of gems make them slightly weaker than their Full-Gemed cousins.

Round-Gemed Lapili
Rarity: Uncommon.
These Lapili have only their tail and neck gems, which are rounded, rather than their more common, pointed counterparts. These Lapili are not especially rare, though not often sighted.

Mutations
Rarity: Rare.
Occasionally, a Lapili may have some sort of mutation, such as whiskers, fins, gills, different gems, or even fur, among other possibilities! These Lapili are rather rare, due to a low survival rate amongst their kind caused by abnormalities in their DNA.

Gemless Lapili
Rarity: Extremely rare.
On a rare occasion, a Lapili may be born without any gems at all. These Lapili do not have the ability to wield the elements as the more common Lapili breeds to, leading to a very low survival rate.

As mentioned above, Lapili with gems are capable of wielding the powers of various elements. These are determined by their gem color.

White: Power over light. Capable of making their gems glow like a lightbulb.
Grey: Powers of destruction. More physically capable than other Lapili at the cost of no magical powers.
Black: Power over darkness. Can absorb nearby light into their gems, darkening the area around them.
Brown: Power over rocks and soil. Able to bend the earth to their will.
Red: Power over fire. Capable of summoning flames from their gems and occasionally breathing fire.
Orange: Power over animals. Able to summon and control other small animal species at will.
Yellow: Power over lightning. Capable of summoning thunderstorms and creating lightning bolts from their gems.
Green: Power over plant life. Able to create and manipulate plant life around them.
Cyan: Power over air. Able to create wind gusts and occasionally even tornadoes. May rarely use their wind to float in the air for a short amount of time.
Blue: Power over water and ice. Able to create and move water and ice at will.
Purple: Psychic power. Have the ability to communicate through others' minds, as well as minor telekinesis.
Pink: Power over emotions. Able to manipulate other's feelings at will.

Now, I'm pretty calm when it comes to rules, so this is gonna be fairly short.
Rules:
1. All of the site and forum rules apply here. Should be obvious .3.
2. Be nice! We don't need any fighting or anything here~
3. Don't complain if you don't get the one you wanted. Just congratulate the winner(s) and remember that there's always next time!
4. No bribing or sucking up to the artists to win. That's just silly, guys. Don't do it |D
5. Don't post asking to be an artist. We'll be having a competition for that soon enough, so you'll have your time to shine then ^^
6. Use common sense. This one should be fairly obvious X3
7. Don't steal. This goes for the species, members of it, and so on. So no claiming anything you don't own as your own, okay? c:
8. You may own up to four Lapili. For the time being, at least. Staff may own five as thanks for their hard work~
8. Have fun! See all those smilies and stuff there? I'm having fun just writing these things - You should have fun, too!

Strikes:
I don't like to do it, but it happens sometimes!

Bans:
If you manage to get three strikes, you'll, more likely than not, end up with a ban. Length of time varies from case to case.

Breedings
Breedings are not yet available, and will instead be made public upon the creation of a nursery. All breeding applications will be posted there.

Customs
Customs are exclusive to staff members, who can have up to two of their five Lapili be customs created by them or another. Guest artists may make one custom for themselves, provided they have not reached their limit of four Lapili.

Guest Artists
Closed
Guest artist slots open when I say so. The slot is not first come, first served, and will rather be chosen based on designing and art skills. Guest artists will serve for two weeks, during which time they may make three Lapili, one of which can be a custom for themselves. Any guest artists who make only a custom for themselves during their time served with no reasonable explanation will receive a strike.
