I would love to own one some day actually.
This. The stings suck though, but its pretty hard to get stung if you are paying attention.
We have bullrout where I live (fresh water stonefish)
I have been stung by a tiny one (about an inch big) when trying to get him out of the net I accidentally touched one of his pectoral fins and all I got was a tingle in my finger for 15-20 mins lol
But my partner had a huge one caught in a cast net, it was night and he thought it was a large rock so just grabbed it to chuck it out of the net, it's dorsal spikes went into his thumb and I have to say its the most pain I have ever seen him in ( and he can tolerate quite abit of pain, he does muay thai and has quite afew tattoos lol) his thumb swelled to twice its size with in an hr and his whole hand and arm swelled as the poison spred up, he was in agonising pain for atleast 12 hrs and had a fat thumb for at least 3 days
And apparently the freshwater stone fish aren't as bad as salt water stone/lion fish so I don't wanna know what they feel like lol

No new deaths to report today, and the parameters seem to be going back to normal. Ammonia is down from 1 to .25. Nitrites are gone. Nitrates went up from 10 to 15, so it seems the cycle just hit a speed bump, rather than crashed, thank goodness. Here's hoping things continue to improve.

I had the first death in my tank for a while.
My little julli cory died while I was at school today. He was looking a bit worse for wear and ragged for a while, so I guess I saw it coming. Although I thought he seemed better last night. :/
Now I just have two salt and pepper cories and one albino cory in my ten gallon with the betta.
I'm not sure if I want to get a replacement or not...

Hmm, i'm considering in getting a 25-30 gallon tank and getting a goldfish.. just one, maybe with a few other tiny fish in there.. not really sure.
I can't really afford a 40 gallon tank, so maybe i can try to get a 30.5 gallon or something.. i really love goldfish, i had two when i was just a little girl. i didint know ANYTHING about fish and had them both in a 5 gallon tank. Pecan was a fancy goldfish who lived 7 years, and Goldie was just a normal goldfish who lived 13 years.
If i don't get Goldfish, i may consider another betta. I want a female to breed with my Male.
URGENT:
I went to visit my neighboors today, our familes are close and i went in "A's" room (Lets call her A) and i noticed her Betta was layed on the bottom of the bowl (The betta was in half a gallon vase) and i noticed the fish was alive and had EXTRME fin rot, to the point were the fins were almost gone fully, i moved the bowl a bit and he tried to swim to the top but he could barley do it.
I asked "A" what did he/she look like when she bought him (At the time, i couldent tell if it was a Plakat female or not) and she said he had huge fins but over time he just 'shrunk'
I'm not sure what to tell her now, i feel bad for him because he can't swim, he sits there all day with his head stuffed in the gravol..

Yikes! The poor fish! I feel so bad for it. I'm going to be moving copper soon, because i feel like he's not getting enough food due to the strong current, so i keep handfeeding him.
Also king went in to steal some of Angel's food and she tried to nip him. he casually swam away.

"I wish fish abuse was reportable to the aspca or something?"
Honestly, while it seems like a good idea, a ton of people have no idea that it's "abuse". They are told wrong information by so many people. Not everyone has the right idea even if they have good intentions. They just need to be educated.
The people who "abuse" fish might have other pets that they love and care for and really reporting them for it would be like arresting someone or fining someone who is actually innocent because they don't know what they do wrong.
I have to say that while I think people need to be more educated on their pets, even if they are fish, I would hate to see it become something the aspca gets involved with.

herpluvin wrote:does anyone on here keep "oddball" fish? I like the large oddball fish like gar and bichir. I would own them but my 29 gallon tank says no lol.
I have a sunfish and a random sucker fish of some sort, along with some rainbow darters from my stream. Does that count? XD
I'm pretty standard with guppies, platies, bettas, cories, and goldfish X3
I do love groupers, axolotls, and glass catfish, but don't have what I need to keep them.
