Dear inanimate object that would look amazing wearing a secret agent hat,I feel like a detective today. I swear, I'm going to have my own little secret agent themesong. (Maybe the Mission Impossibile themesong in a minor key, so it sound kind of creepy, like horror movie music) Enough about my themesong, for now, more about the reason I feel like a detecive.
I met up with the others after school today, because after spending the morning passing notes to each other between classes, we all agreed that we had to find out what the heck was going on with the kidnapped kids, who'd appeared to disappear off of the face of the earth entirely.
The sky was overcast and gray, which was typical April weather around here. The air was neither too warm or too cold, and there was practically no breeze to speak of. The world seemed to be holding its breath. It was perfect weather for our flight. Sure, a breeze would've been nice to push us along a little bit, but then we'd have to fight it on our way home. We were heading toward the not-so-sunny part of town. (Not that it's sunny outside to start with) Well, change that, it's the forest outside of the not-so-sunny part of town. (Washington School district is in a rural area)
We landed where we knew that nobody was around and then walked to the bus stop where it'd happened. I don't know what i expected to see, really. Maybe some dead corpses, blood splatters on the ground, foot prints, tire tracks from the get away vehicle, maybe even nuclear waste, but there was absoloutely nothing. It was just a normal bus stop at the corner between two roads. If the bus full of terrified children hadn't seen the kidnapping here, I would've flown right past it and kept looking for something that looked like a bomb site.
We scoured the area for a whole ten or twenty minutes. "This is hopeless!" I finally said. "There's nothing here, and if there was, the cops took it as evidence." I said, kicking a pebble by my foot.
Autumn let out a huff. "There's got to be something here." she said.
Jason looked ready to throw in the towel too. "We're never going to find anything before the cops come back to investigate the scene again." he commented.
There was the wailing of sirens in the distance. "And, speak of the devil. . ." I muttered. We couldn't get caught by the cops in the middle of a taped off crimescene, so we went up-up-and-away and back toward home. We landed in the woods seperating our houses, but we didn't leave each other right away. Instead, we decided to go up to the tree house and hang out a little bit, mainly because we'd told our parents that we were going to be seeing a movie that played until five, and it was only four thirty.
Instead of climbing up into the tree house, we wanted to see if wwe could fly strait up there (as opposed to getting a running start.) aSurprisingly enough, none of us made it up. Autumn flopped on her back, Jason it a tree (ouch), and Mitch almost got there, but fell back just as he was almost there. I hit my head on the bottom of the tree house, and, needless to say, it hurt. I was the first one to get up there, because I finally picked up on the whole tree-climbing thing. I was shocked by what I saw, though.

A pair of red-pink eyes stared at me scaredly. "Don't hurt me!" someone, clearly a girl, said. In a few seconds my eyes adjusted to the lack of light and I was able to see what she looked like. She was younger than me, probably by a year or two. She had gray fur and black hair falling out of short pigtails behind her head. She wore a ragged black winter parka, and she pulled the hood up around her head before I coudl tell much more about her features. In her paws, she clutched a crobar that she weilded like a sword.
"I'm not going to hurt you!" I said. "I'm just a sarcastic young teenage girl!" By then, the others had climbed up the tree and were beside me. "Who are you?"
She narrowed her eyes. "I'm not falling for that! You're one of them aren't you?" she saied, swinging the crobar dangerously close to my head.
"One of what?" Mithch exclaimed, grabbing the end of the crobar and pulling it and the girl closer so he could look her in the eye. (Which was kind of intimidating looking, I have to admit.)
"The-the men in the white coats!" she exclaimed shrilly, sounded as scared as she looked. "They took me and my brother and a bunch of other kids yesterday. I got away! I think I'm the only one that got away!"
My jaw dropped to the floor. This was one of the kids who'd gotten kidnapped at the bus stop yesterday. (Seriously, it's not every day that you have a bunch of kids getting kidnapped in public, is it?) We were all silent for a moment, and this time it was Autumn that spoke up.
"I think we might have the same problem, then." she said calmly She let that settle in the air for a moment before asking. "Now, who are you?"
"I'm Destinee." she replied, not saying any more.
I could've sworn I recognized the name, in fac,t I did. I remembered hearing it just a few days ago. I searched my memories for the name and then it struck me. Someone had mentioned having a little sister named Destinee. This was Shado's sister.
