Blackhaze purred. "I'm glad you like it." He was still a little warm, but he figured it would go away soon. He suddenly meowed "I never would've known how to swim if I had never tried fishing, you know." He recalled his first try as an apprentice, being fished out and dragged back to camp, almost unconscious, by his mentor.

Silverstorm looked a bit surprised. She remembered when she was an apprentice Blackhaze had been carried back to camp half unconscious after falling into the water. She never knew what had caused him to fall in though. "Wow if something like that happened to me, I would honestly be afraid to swim." She mewed.

[EO+RS]

"Actually, I was afraid of falling in again, so I learned how to swim and stopped trying to fish." Blackhaze shrugged. "But it's hard to imagine you being scared of anything." he mewed honestly.

[squirelife]

Silverstorm blushed. "Oh course I'm scared of things. All cats are afraid of something." She mewed looking at him. "I know I'm scared of losing you..."

[EO+RS]

"I'm scared of losing you, especially after..." Blackhaze stopped, not wanting to bring up painful memories.

[squirelife]

Silverstorm smiled nervously. "I know but that's over. My wounds have healed up." She said.

[EO+RS]

Blackhaze nodded. He didn't like to think about that much. He looked away for a moment, then back at Silverstorm. He didn't know what to say, so he said "You still seem pretty fearless to me."

[squirelife]

Silverstorm laughed. "Your kissing right? The deputy of our clan is saying that to me?" She said a laughed a bit more. "You're the one who's fearless!"

[EO+RS]

Blackhaze shrugged. "In order to become deputy, I had to work pretty hard at pretending to be cold, tough, like Brokenstar, to impress him. I used to hope that I impressed him. When I fought I had to be ruthless in order to fulfill my ambitions, but once I got here, it was definitely not what I had hoped it would be. But I kept pretending to be tough, and I'm far from the most well-liked cat in the clan, but back then it was what Brokenstar thought that mattered. And to me it seemed that Brokenstar wanted fierce, unwaveringly loyal, cold and ruthless cats. He probably still does, and I wanted to be on top, so I worked hard to seem that way. I still never fish if I can help it, and in battle... I have to lose it in order to fight effectively. Just completely go over the top. Otherwise... otherwise I would probably drown in the horror of it. Just curl up in a corner and hope for the best. It's taken a lot of practice and covering, and I'm far from fearless." Blackhaze hadn't told anyone before about how hard he had worked for his position. They probably would have thought of him as a greedy, selfish, power-hungry cat. He looked down at his churning paws, hoping Silverstorm would forgive him for how he used to act.
