I just thought of a really weird idea:

What if Celestia was Discord's daughter?
Her original mane colour was a very similar pink to his clouds of delicious chaos, as a simple start point. We know that she and Luna overthrew him and turned him to stone around 1000 years ago. It is certainly not unlikely that daughter of Equestria's king at the time would have overthrown him in favour of ruling differently than he was. Also, Luna and Celestia are the first known Alicorns, combinations of all three pony types. Doesn't it seem like something Discord would do, combine all of the ponies' abilities into one? And then of course he couldn't just have one baby alicorn, so he made one with more contrast, a little nighttime Luna filly.

It is also obvious once Discord becomes part of the show that he and Celestia know eachother. While the other cute alternative is them not being related and having been a couple in the past, we are placing that to the side for this idea. He says to Clestia when he first comes back, "Did you miss me? I've missed you." Seems like something he might say if this theory were the case. Then, in Keep Calm and Flutter On, Celestia leaves before he is released from the statue and looks guilty when seeing him later.

What do you think? Because I have no clue what made me think of this idea.

This actually makes a whole lot of sense... And maybe, if this is true, Discord's magic was what turned Luna into Nightmare Moon?

I like the idea! It would explain a heck of a lot about the princesses.

I have always like the idea of discord being star swirl the beared.

I've just heard from a lot of places that Celestia's and Luna's parents were two alicorn rulers of an ancient kingdom by the name of King Dusk and Queen Dawn. It makes sense to me if the parents of the sisters were the first alicorns.

i read that it was King Cosmos and Queen Galaxia....'tis a mystery to be solved...

Also i read somewhere that Cadence was origonally a pegasus who later became an alicorn so so far P. Luna and P. Tia are the only natrual born Alicorns that i know of...pretty cool

I could be wrong, but I am fairly certain these are all fan theories. We have no real history of Celestia, Luna, or Cadance at the moment. I hope we get an episode about them in season 4, though.
