Coltsfoot Teacup Dragon

Postby vindhov » Sat Mar 30, 2013 6:54 am

Judging is now over.

This Teacup Dragon lives in ditches and in the corners of old fields where coltsfoot flowers can be found growing right after the snow has melted. It is superb at hiding amongst the old damp leaves left freezing under the snow since winter and its thick hide shields it from the cold on the ground.

Based on this flower: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BePz4KWfXDg/T ... 143628.JPG

Congratulations Evelyne who is now the new owner of this Teacup dragon.

male (lil' manly man, with flowers on his tail) "don't use sarcasm on me!" (i will if i want to.)
Personality:
Innovative he can make the best out of a bad situation. using a few spare parts, he can create almost anything- and normaly ends up solving the problem entirely.
Clever at least, he thinks he is. well, he really is rather smart. however, some concepts are lost on him- mainly sarcasm, irony, and 'tough love'
sweet he's a kind hearted little sap. "sap?!" (see, this what i mean. i used the term endearingly, and he goes and get offended.) anyway, he is just the kindest little thing, fixing up the leaves he moves when he burrows down. marcus will tidy up anything, and goes out of his way to be kind to everything. unfortunately, if he talks to the wrong people, he can be walked all over.
curious he scavenges some odd things while he moves around- books, poems, trinkets. he learns little things, like a sentence, and repeats it later. sometimes, when he finds objects he doesn't know how to use, he takes them home and examens them. this normaly leads to him 'tinkering' with the toy... and destroying it completely. of course, he does build a new one out of the scraps... but it's not the same.

Short story about how you, or someone else, found this dragon (no word limit):
the day was fair, for a spring day. the sky had a painted look- a swirl of blues and whites too delecate to be real. the temperature had finally broken above the fourty degree mark. i had only a light jacket on, a vibrant maroon fleece that was a bit short on the sleeves. it stood out against the dead, brown trees, and the robbin's egg blue sky. overall, it seemed like a fantastic day.
"i'm going on a hike," i shout to my family, before ducking out the door. my dad liked action, and it was either go on a walk by myself- or mow the lawn. he didn't care if i left with no warning.
before i leave the driveway, i tuck my paper and pencil into my pocket. i had been in an artists slump, and hoped something would inspire me. a Muse could strike at any time. after zipping up my pocket, i turn onto the street. my rubber shoes ate up the asphault, and i sped down the road, reaching the power lines.
the road was intersected by a feild of powerlines that spanned cities. turning onto the ground, i felt the terrain change. a few muddy puddles dotted the gravel road in the valleys, interupted by the tops of the hills that lurched along with the power line wires. the feild was filled with brambles, and tall grass all the same shade of yellow-brown. nothing. on the bright side, i wasn't even a quarter way through the walk. my destination was the woods, by the river shore. i was hoping to spot some flower bulbs, or maybe an Iron wood tree. they were my favorite- looking like liquid metal, and feeling harder than steel.
the gravel road became split in half by muddy grass- only visible due to tire tracks. a few rut's appeared along the side, full of something darker green than everything else.
i lean in, simultainiously unzipping my pocket for my paper. maybe there was a plant i could draw. looking down, it was a small patch of flowers. they looked like dandilions, but no such flower had bloomed yet. too early, too cold.
the flowers apparently didn't care- the pushed out of a patch of rotted leaves like a golden crown. or afro, the more i thought on it. it was better than nothing- i kneeled down for a quick sketch.
my one true regret was that i couldn't bring colors. the pencil captured the shape of the flower in seconds- but the grey color of graphite made it look like a poorly drawn explosion. frustrated, i fold up the paper and sit down on a patch of dry grass. i start picking through the leaves absentmindedly, maybe looking for something else to draw. i see a rustle out of the corner of my eye. i look at the leaf pile again. one leaf is too long. it's not even a leaf shape!
slowly, as if a fraid it might bite, i move my fingers to the long 'stem' of the 'leaf'. gently, i place one finger on it, feeling a tight bundle of muscle under my nail. not a leaf.
the pile explodes to life, and a tiny tornado springs to action in front of my hand. a small animal thrashes about, trying to free it's tail from my grip. i scream.
"sorry! sorry! please let go- i'll go away now!" a voice says.
i scream again, looking at the shape that had stopped writhing. it was a lean shape, with a long apendage i had eyed with envy- wings. it was a dragon.
the dragon was only the size of my hand- a few inches bigger in wingspan, and longer if you counted the tail. timmidly, i lift uf my finger. it stares at me for a few seconds. then, without further hesitation, it runs into the coltsfoot plant again.
"come back!" i say. "you're amazing!"
it sticks it's head out. "really?"
"thre aren;t many dragons that i see," i reply in earnest. my fingers fumble along my zipper with a mind of their own. i pull out my paper and pencil once more.
"what are those?" it asks. i can tell from the sound now, that the dragon is a boy.
"paper and pencil, i use them to draw. don't you know how to draw?" i ask.
he shakes his head, and inches closer to me.
"whats your name?" i inquire, already sketching out the harsh lines of his tiny face.
"marcus." he reply's, and i capture his neck in a few sweeps of the wrist.
"well then, marcus, i think we have quite a lot to talk about," i say, as he hop's onto my shoulder, and we continue on my walk.

Short story about how you, or someone else, found this dragon (no word limit)
I walked down the small dirt path leading to a special place. I have heard of the small dragons that become companions only if you do a deed for them. I was now in search for one. I heard a small chirrup and I swung my head around. Blue hair in my face. My face became hot as I thought that it was just a bird. No need to freak out. I walked off the path into a patch of colts-foot. I tripped over a rock and fell face first into mud. I heard a small squeak and my head shot up. There it was. A teacup Dragon. I smiled and crawled on my knees towards it. It stuck its tongue out and I slowly put my hand out offering it seeds. It gladly ate them up and inched closer. I dumped more into my hands and it crawled on my hand. Eating the seeds it curled up and napped in my palm. I guess it was mine now. I smiled and walked home constantly looking down at the small teacup dragon.

Short story about how you, or someone else, found this dragon (no word limit):

It was early in the early spring morning, where the snow has recently melted, because of Lady March's changing mood. When i woke up with no reason, I got up and sleepily went to the window yawning. The sun was just rising and some of the flowers were opening, viewing their beautiful colors. That's how i judged it was around 6:00 AM. But that's when i saw something strange. At first i thought it was a bird, because it was at the size of one, but then i saw it's skin and pattern. It was looking like a lizard, with squamous dark green skin, cute little horns, wings and tail with a few flowers blossoming. As a pretty curious person i putted on my sneakers and with my pajamas i ran out of the door straight to the yard, where i saw it.

When i went out of the door i stepped silently closer, near the field where it was, and started watching it. I decided it's a little dragon, because i read many books of them, and curiosity got over me. Sadly, because of my luck, i stepped into a stick, that cracked audible.
The little dragon saw me and it's eyes began to fill with fear, causing it's hiding in the nearby shrubs. I felt awkward and tried calling it, by saying silently: ''Come here. Don't worry, i won't hurt you.''
The dragon looked at me from far, still not getting closer. He was analyzing me from my legs to the head. Looks like it believed me and flew over suspiciously looking at me.
I gave my hand, and it sniffed me watching my actions.
''Will you let me touch your skin little guy?''- I asked smiling.
The Dragon nodded and shifted it's neck, so i can pet it. So as i did.- When i touched it, it didn't feel like it was squamous, it was pretty smooth and felt pretty good on my fingers.
''What's your name? I am Vicky''- I asked.

The dragon whispered in my head something like:
''I am Sammy, and i like your name.''

''How cute! Actually what are you?''- I asked curiously.

''I am a Teacup Dragon.''- Sammy answered.

''You know what? I think i have a Teacup that will fit your patterns perfectly! Follow me!''- I said and ran to the house door.
The dragon nodded and flew over.

So the story of two good friends may go on....

(I know it's a bit long, but i hope you will like it!<3)

Dragons name:
Bayne

Gender:
Male

Personality:
He's rather spunky, slightly shy but very friendly, and is very determined. Forgiving yet fierce, he respects all he meets till they give him a reason not to.
He isn't too fond of cold weather though, and can be grouchy when cold. In the warmer weather, he wants nothing more than to spread his wings and float over the ground on the light spring breezes.

Short story about how you, or someone else, found this dragon:
The snow was slowly starting to melt. This was both good and bad; good because it was spring, but bad because the mushy earth stuck to my boots. Why can't the snow go away already? Normally I love snow, but this was starting to get annoying.
I walked along the old stone fence which lined the small garden my mother and I had started a couple of years ago. I was mentally mapping out what flowers we would plant this year and where to place them.
The begonias will go there next to the lilies. Oh, and the irises can go over here! I had it all written down mentally, and was excited for the sun to melt the snow. Eventually, I found the end of the stone wall. Something had started to sprout here, despite the cold.
"I don't remember planting anything.." I said to myself as I leaned down to look. It seems that coltsfoot had bloomed. How peculiar! Kneeling down and balancing on the balls of my feet, I admired the determination of the dainty little flowers to burst through the snow to face the shining sun.
I started to lose myself in thought when I could have sworn I saw one of the flowers move. I held my breath, hoping the flower might move again. As if hearing my wish, the tallest stalk shook. I leaned slightly closer and moved the flower over. There, coiled around the base of one of the coltsfoot stalks, was a tiny dragon, no bigger than a teacup. The dragon was fast asleep, flicking its tail in its sleep which caused the flower to move. It had a dark green body with splashes of brown, gold horns, and... flowers on its tail? Hey, those flowers look just like the coltsfoot!
Without thinking, I carefully ran a finger down the back of the sleeping dragon. It awoke with a start, and jumped into the air. I yelped when it jumped and fell backwards. The dragon was spreading its wings and was about to take off when I yelled, "Wait!". I'm not entirely sure why I yelled wait, but something inside me didn't want the little being to leave.
"Wait..please. I didn't mean to startle you.." I looked at the little dragon as it flapped its wings, hovering in mid air, and looked me in the eyes. I sat looking back at it, jacket and jeans slowly becoming soaked with slush, fingers digging into the dirt, heart racing a hundred times normal. The dragon slowly made its way to my knee, where it rested, yet it never took its eyes off of me. I reached my right hand out and it crawled onto my palm. I smiled and said, "You're a tiny fella, huh?" The little dragon smiled back. "You're such a tiny boy! You are a boy, right?" The dragon nodded. He was shy at first, but slowly made his way up my coat sleeve and across my shoulders, nuzzling my left cheek. "I like you! I think I'll call you Bayne. Do you like that name?" Bayne nuzzled my cheek again.
"C'mon, Bayne. Let's go home."
