And also I have to say, I've never played online. *shame* :c
I'm just too nervous and afraid everyone will throw insults at me because I'm not the best player out there.

I'm a horrible online player and TF2 is the first FPS I've played ever. I've only had minimal problems with players being jerks. Just don't respond to them (or respond to them super politely. One guy was being passive aggressive on mic to me with a snarky tone saying something like "there was a turret right next to you, [Rainbow Dash]. Might help to look around sometimes." I responded with a polite "Duly noted" and left it at that.) and you'll be fine. Servers matter though, I play on brony servers since the people there tend to be nicer. But I've had a super great game on the public Valve servers too.

An example of how not to behave: A friend and I started on a MvM game with this one little kid who wouldn't stop using the mic to yell things like "WE HAVE TO STOP THEM" and "KILL THE ROBOTS." He wouldn't stop and just kept shouting inane nonsense. I got a little snarky once by saying "Yeah, that's the idea" hoping he'd get the hint but I finally muted him because he got so annoying. Another player told him in the chat box to shut up.

I just finished up some MvM on an advanced server and I didn't get yelled at, I actually got advice on how to do better. I learned though if I play too long my wrist begins to jerk and twitch on its own which is... not that helpful. I don't know if it's part of my wrist disability.

Oh, every new player gets their share of snarky comments, although it's not quite as worse as it used to be. With the new influx of F2P players, there's tons of newbies out there and people are usually pretty forgiving. You could also just play on public and official servers, there's usually a lot of newbies on there too.

As for advice. Hmm.. What classes do you usually play? I could try to give some class specific advice.

@ The multiplayer-newbie-shame conversation (lol):

I simply play with no voice chat because:

a) I don't want to be talking to people I don't know, and

b) I can avoid being insulted that way.

It works out well for me ^^ Most of the time people won't be too mean in regular chat, so I just don't enable voice chat. As I said before, just try multiplayer sometime and change servers if the one you're on isn't great. Or we could all mess around on an empty server sometime x3 Either way, you'll never know if you don't try it. I'm still awful at this game, but most people don't seem to mind.

Well I usually play as Pyro, Medic, Sniper or Engineer (I like to help & assist players xD), although I hear that Soldier is the easiest to start with. I've played as all the classes so I know what they can do ect. (I'm AWFUL at Spy. xD)
I suppose I'll mute the mics then. C:

I'll try browsing around for some servers sometime. I guess you can't really get any better at the game unless you play online right? xD
I mean playing against bots isn't the best but you get what I'm saying right? :3
