@Sadist., Eurk, responsibilities; they are (one of) the bane(s) of my existence. Dx
@Leviathan007, I must say -"yak-sack"- elicited quite a cackle. Ehehehe.)

As Serenity's cheeks coloured, Ari felt his doing the same, almost in response, mimicking the grey-eyed girl (much to his own discomfort). Willing the blood to flow away and leave his face unblemished by the all-too-obvious sign screaming his embarrassment out for the world to see, Ari pulled his eyes from Serenity to fix back on Nathan. Worry clouded his eyes, pulling down his brow to furrow above his eyebrows. The injured boy was clearly not okay -he had taken a seat once more, eyes closed to ward off the pain. It was only the sight of Alena immersed with his care-taking that kept him from lurching to Nathan's side, offering himself up for aid. He would only get in the way (useless, his mind screamed fleetingly). Alena looked as if she knew what she was doing, and he clung fervently to that belief -because, otherwise... Ari bit his tongue to divert his train of thought.
All of a sudden, he became aware of Serenity's voice again, quiet even though she stood so close. He drew his attention from Nathan and the scarred girl to fix it once more on Serenity. He offered her another weak, crooked smile, a small chuckle bubbling from his lips as her words registered. His name was better? As if. Nevertheless, the compliment ignited a small fire in the pit of his belly, filling him with a much-needed warmth as he stood in the snow. "Thank you," he parroted back, taking no time to pause and reconsider his words before barreling ahead and adding boldly, "But I don't think so. I'd trade, but -uh- Serenity suits you."
All the blood that had drained away when he turned to observe Nathan came rushing back in full force, and Ari's eyes dropped straight to his boots. He longed for the darker complexion Serenity possessed; it would do wonders for hiding the violent red of his face. In that moment, Ari was startlingly aware of his awkwardness, and he felt the dormant self-loathing rising up from the depths of his being like a snake raising its hooded head to strike. Gods, he couldn't even talk to his peers. How on earth was he supposed to make friends when he could hardly form a coherent sentence without his body betraying him and lighting up like a stoplight? Perhaps he was doomed to wander this land in solitude for the rest of his existence -he would like frighten even his own Guide off when they came along; stiflingly them with his glaring ineptitude until they could take no more and disappeared. (Was that even possible?)
With a start, Ari was thrown off-balance by the realization that their little huddle had grown in number; one more girl had joined them -she did not look familiar. She was standing with her attentions focused more heavily on the hazel-eyed girl and Nathan, hood thrown back to expose long brown hair. She spoke -inquiring after the cause of the incident, and then introducing herself as Krystal. Ari supposed he should introduce himself in turn, but his tongue felt leaden, and, besides, she seemed preoccupied with Nathan.
(Eurk -my writing has been feeling so incredibly stilted as of late. I'm getting rather close to throwing something at a wall, or out the window. DX)
