Swedish Blueberry Teacup Dragon

Postby vindhov » Wed Mar 27, 2013 9:38 pm

Judging is now over.

This Teacup dragon lives in Deep forests amongst the blueberry sprigs. It is superbly camoflauged and whenever it feels the need to hide it simply crouches down amongst the sprigs and sits perfectly still. There are many predators that mistake it for real berries such as bears and badgers, and it is known to give berry pickers a nip when they try to pick the berries on its head and tail.

Based on this plant: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i4bGvn_futA/U ... 120024.JPG

Congratulations Caskett who is now the new owner of this dragon!

Dragons name: Hermione; Greek: Well born, earthly

Gender: Female

Personality: Hermione is an elegant, graceful dragon, with a sharp wit and sharper tongue. Despite her somewhat plain appearances, which aid her in blending into the blueberry bush that serves as her home, she is fierce and haughty, refusing to be upstaged by anyone. She enjoys a good battle of wit with all who cross her path. Rarely does she meet someone whose mind is greater, but Hermione accepts defeat gracefully, although vowing that the next chance she gets, she will be the victor. If you come across this Teacup Dragon, tread carefully, because she is easily offended and holds a grudge like a soldier with a sword. Get on her good side and Hermione will be unwaveringly loyal, defending her friends and protecting them at all costs. Because of her somewhat standoffish nature, Hermione is known to be a bit of a hothead, but when she makes a friend she is an invaluable companion.

Short story (Maximum 650 words):
The midnight breeze which ruffled the leaves of a certain Swedish Blueberry bush was cool and comforting, blowing the thin branches ever so slightly as to create a gentle rocking perfect for lulling Hermione to sleep. The summer night was hot and humid, but the wind's feather touch sent just the slightest reminder of spring, her favorite season, and promised that the following morning would be perfect for flying under the shade of the forest. Sighing, she rolled over, adjusting her wings against the small round leaves. Nights like these, she thought, were perfect.
Suddenly, the cool sounds of the night were broken by a huge rustling and shaking of her bush; something was violently thrashing and creating great gusts of air. Woken from her almost dream-like state, it took Hermione a few seconds to process what was going on. Sharp claws pierced through the leaves above her, and a powerful beak repeatedly thrust its way through several branches, reaching for the plump purple berries growing from the bush. Darting out of harm's way quickly, so as to avoid being eaten or smushed or whatever this nighttime intruder had on their agenda, she rose up a few feet above the Blueberry bush. "Hey!" Hermione called indignantly, angry at being woken from her sleep, and, on top of that, finding her house being eaten. "Just what do you think you're doing?" She yelled at the bird, trying to look menacing. "That's my house you're eating! Go away! Find your own bush! This one's taken!" The bird looked at her creepily, moving it's head without turning the rest of it's tawny body. She could tell it was an owl, from the large eyes.
"I need food. This bush is ripe with berries. It is of no consequence to me that you live here."
That was the worst insult yet! "Why I oughta...." She began, but then stopped. An idea was coming on. "Hey, Owl," she said, rather rudely. "I have a fair way we can settle this. I challenge you to a game of wits. The smartest creature gets the bush, and the loser has to find a new one."
The owl nodded once, its eyes half blinking. "Very well," it said, in it's somber, ominous voice.
"Okay," said the dragon, her eyes twinkling mischievously in the pale moonlight. "You must answer this riddle correctly, and if you do, you win. If not, I win." Pausing for dramatic affect, she went on, making the riddle up as it came to her.
"Mightier than a hawk but smaller than a flower.
Fierce looking eyes and wings of tremendous power.
Master of the air, land and sea.
Often I can see you, but you can't see me!
What am I?"

The owl clicked it's beak nervously, adjusted its wings and moved a claw lower down one of the blueberry branches. Crickets chirped somewhere in the forest, their melody making the great bird's silence obvious.
"Fine, I give up," he murmured, somewhat put off at being beaten by such an arrogant creature. "The bush is yours. Even the wit of an owl cannot match yours, little dragon."

Dragons name: Nightberry
Gender: female
Personality: Nightberry is as her scales show. She is sweet as blueberries but get on her dark side and she can become the sour aftertaste. She will ignore you for days and won’t even go near you. She has a very down-to-earth personality; she can become deep as the sky when she’s not even trying. She tends to think on another level completely, and some of her friends don’t understand. She also tends to say things that are sometimes mean. Understand, she doesn’t do this on purpose and when she realizes that she hurt your feelings she will began to cry and try to apologize and make you feel better. See…sweet as a berry. She loves to go out at night, when there are not many dragons out as much. She loves the silence and tranquility the night brings, she feels peace and calm. When she’s alone, she wonders what it would be like to have a mate. She’s often lonely and wants to feel loved. She has still not found that certain dragon that feels the void in her heart and is her other half. She hopes to find him one day. So that brings me to another personality trait, she is a dreamer.
Short story (Maximum 650 words): It was midnight, inside the deep forests among the blueberries there was a flash of green and dark purple. A tiny, musical laugh, there was another flash of color and then a tiny dragon came into view. She was beautiful, her emerald scales glinting in the moonlight along with deep purple on the underside of her wings. She landed on a low branch, her tail swaying lightly; it was covered with small leaves and tiny purple balls that looked like blueberries. She was a Swedish Blueberry Teacup dragon. Her name was Nightberry and she was currently searching for fresh berries to eat. Her golden-amber orbs flashed and she trailed them over a patch of blueberries in front of her. Her sharp, brown claws dug into the wood and then she crouched, arching her tail in the air. Then she launched herself at the blueberry patch, disappearing into the leaves. Then her head popped up in between the leaves, she held a good-sized blueberry in her paws. She analyzed it and then she made a content sound, it sounded like a hurr…
Then with a squeak, Nightberry bit into the blueberry, breaking the skin; causing its sweet juice to squirt everywhere. She ate the blueberry and then licked the juice off of her muzzle and her claws. "Delicious." she whispered when she was finished. Her belly full, and her appetite quenched, Nightberry made her way out of the bush and flew away towards a patch of leaves she made into a nest. The dragoness settled into the nest on her back, revealing a soft emerald belly. She stared at up the night sky with a dreamy look in her eyes, she swayed her tail softly. She loved staring up at the night sky, it was so beautiful. The stars told a story, a story from way back through time, before the humans, when the first teacup dragon came to be. Nightberry understood this in a deep, totally high-level of understanding.
A few minutes later, Nightberry began to get sleepy, her lids began to close. She opened her jaws wide in a yawn, showing a pink tongue and sharp teeth. Closing it with a snap, she stretched and then rolled onto her belly. She curled into a small ball and wrapped her tail around her small, graceful body and fell asleep, dreaming of sweet berry dreams….

Re: Swedish Blueberry Teacup Dragon

Username: Maeflower, sometimes called Mae.

Dragons name: Camilla, after a warrior maiden from mythology. She likes to be called Cammy, though only her most intimate friends call her that.

Gender: Female

Personality: Camilla is much like her namesake - a warrior maiden with shining gold eyes. She's loyal, kind, and wise, but she is also inquisitive, timid, and bright. Camilla dreams of adventure, and since it isn't hard to come by in her home, she's almost never bored. Much like one of her closest friends, Adsila (my dragon, the Strawberry Teacup), Camilla is a thrill-seeker, but unlike Adsila she's also philisophical, and thinks about everything even as she's diving head-first into a situation. As in, she'll follow Adsila into battle, but will plan and think about every move they make.

Camilla loves a good argument, and can talk her way into anyone's heart - or out of it. She can work wonders with words, and it's one of her greatest gifts. Adsila jokes that Cammy could talk an eagle into giving her its feathers! Camilla just laughs at this, though.

One of Camilla's biggest dreams is to find a mate. She secretly loves romance stories, and is somewhat jealous that Adsila has Tart (AdriaBelle's pear Teacup). She would never really want to have hatchlings, but a mate...Camilla would love that.

Short story (Maximum 650 words):

Camilla & the Toad

Ooo, it was to be a warm day. Cammy could already feel the sun scorching her back, even as she woke among the blueberry branches. She swung her head up, blinking in the dazzling sunlight. Yawning, Camilla wondered what she should do today. Adsila and Tart couldn’t adventure with her, they were too busy with their hatchling - and Camilla certainly didn’t want to visit them again. Even though it was cute when the babe called her “Auntie Cammy.” Camilla had a feeling Adsila had put him up to that.

So what to do, what to do…then the idea struck her. Why, the beaver dam, of course! Camilla used to love going there with her friends, but today she was positive that she’d have it all to herself. Ahh, some alone time would be nice. Stretching her wings beneath the warm, and swiftly heating up, sun, Camilla felt as though alone time was all she needed to make her world feel good.

Camilla soared over field and stream, wood and farm, until she reached the stretch of woods she wanted to visit. Here there were thick oaks draped in mosses and ferns and ivy, delicate elf-like birches twisting magically in a cool breeze. And best of all, there was a pond.

A pond made by beavers, surrounded by thick-growing foliage, covered in beautiful water lilies, and as clear as the bright blue sky. Camilla smelt the sweet-scented water blooms and flew in for a landing. She wondered if she was light enough to land on one of them. In her adolescent years she would’ve landed and they would barely bounce…but now…Camilla hesitantly dropped onto a bloom, and immediately tumbled into the summer-warm water. Yelping and splashing, she swam-slopped onto the banks of the pond. Apparently not.

Still, there was much to do around the pond, and Camilla crawled back down to the edge to peer into the clear depths of the dam. She laughed at her gold-eyed reflection and did a little happy dance. Then she heard more laughter behind her, and whipped around. This laughter was odd, croaking rip-rip sounding laughter, and Camilla had never heard it before. As she turned she saw the creature from which the noise came. It was a creature similar in some ways to a dragon - smooth-skinned, with big reptilian eyes. But it was round and lumpy in shape, with no visible neck, and it certainly didn’t have wings. What could it be? As she watched curiously, the beast watched her back until it finally hopped over to her, nearly level with her face. Camilla shrank back, make cat-like spitting noises. But the beast merely tipped its head into a formal gesture.

“Good morning, madame. I am Monsieur Greentoad, head of the Lilypad Ponds. And who might you be?”

Camilla stammered. “Umm…I - I’m Camilla, Camilla of the Blueberry Bushes. Are you a toad, then? I’ve never seen anything like you.”

Greentoad nodded. “Indeed. I doubt you would, living so far away. Blueberry bushes! Ha! Don’t have too many of those around here.” He chortled, a wet, gulping sound. “Now, how about I introduce you to the rest of my fellows?”

Camilla had never seen anything like it. More toads, beavers, dragonflies, something like a toad called a “frog,” all in rows wanting to meet her. Greentoad explained it, “They’ve never seen a dragon before.”

And so, that was the day Camilla met Monsieur Greentoad of Lilypad Ponds. The day she met the polite creatures of Lilypad Pond. The day she made some...unusual...friends.

Dragons name: Huckleberry {She goes by Berry tho because she thinks her name is more "boyish" than she would like.}

Gender: female

Personality: She is very very shy and softspoken, she is probably the sweetest creature you've ever met, she will go out of her way to make others happy. She is also very creative and loves designing, whether its clothes or painting.

Short story (Maximum 650 words): She fluttered by the trees as fast as she could, almost looked as if she was a butterfly, and if you had seen her you would have thought so to. She was on her way to the yearly gathering with her family and friends. It was the Easter party. Every year they gathered and painted eggs, by the end of the day they usually only got 8-9 painted, since they are so small. Anyway she was late, it was her favorite event of the year and she was already starting to miss it! She concentrated on flying fast but the more she concentrated, the more she swayed off trail. But soon enough she was there, she found her baby sister and older brother then sat down and grabbed a paintbrush. She already had been planning the design in her head for the past month. She let the paint flow from the brush and soon she had the most detailed egg. But it was already time to go, she said good bye to her friends then carefully placed her egg in a bush for a human child to discover on Easter morning.

My username is Sable. Feel free to just call me sabe or sabes though ^^

Dragons name:
I'd name this little dragon Mora.
It has a few different meanings. In spanish it means "little blueberry", in Celtic it means "little mary", in Latin it means "swarthy, dark skinned, moor" and in Egyptian it means "beloved of amun". Of course this little one has the name for it's spanish meaning of "little blueberry".

Gender:
    Mora is a female dragon.

Personality:
Mora is often a pleasant corteous girl. She tends to be quite ambitious, aiming high for what she wants. She's not curious, other's business holds no interest for her. Most of the time she is honest and sympathetic, but she has a fiery little temper hidden away inside her. You know you realky have upset her if she snaps or acts out at you. She isn't very observant, hardly ever noticing new things. She is a bit of a romantic, dreaming of the perfect dragon to run away and start a family with. She's a rather solitary dragon who prefers the company of her blueberry bushes than other creatures, but does enjoy some companionship on occasion.

Short story:

Luminescent

Dragons name:
Emrys (em-riss), though some call her Em, Emy or Rys

Gender:
Female

Brief Personality:
Rys is a social dragon, hating to be alone. She's great at making friends and loves to
spend time with them. She's usually the one in the group that makes people laugh
because of her silly antics.

Emrys is strong in her beliefs and defensive of her opinions, sometimes coming off
as stubborn. Proud is another word to describe Emrys; she also hates being wrong.
She can't stand it when others tell her what to do or how to be.

She's quite an ambitious dragon with high expectations of herself. She's eager to
try new things and likes to have a though planned out for the future. Emrys's dreams
are usually realistic though, and not too over-the-top.

Short story:
A warm breeze carried scents of wildflowers to the edge of the forest. Emrys
stepped onto the lush, soft grass and took in her surroundings. It was a beautiful day:
a pale blue sky dotted with puffy white clouds, the sun warming her scales. Colorful
birds flitted back and forth from the occasional tree. The area was huge and so bright
and pretty, as almost the whole meadow was made of wildflowers. She bent and
sniffed a buttercup, her chin turning yellow. She smiled and smelled a few others but it
felt a bit strange. This place seemed too much like paradise and she felt a chill run up
her spine, as though she was being watched. Emrys felt stinking, hot breath on her
neck and the tiny dragon froze, terrified. She forced herself to turn around and look
into the beady, soulless eyes of a black bear, bearing a hungry expression. Emrys
squeezed her eyes shut, willing it to be over, but the only thing that ended was her
nightmare.

Sort of.

A sharp, musky scent hit her nostrils and she recoiled, shrinking into the sprigs. It
was real: the bear. Suddenly, her mother shot from the undergrowth, teeth bared
and sunk her teeth into the beast's muzzle. She scrabbled, her wings pumping to get a
grip but soon, blood started to drip from the bite wound. The bear roared in pain and
whined, rubbing it's nose with a black paw. The baby dragon's mother stood over
Emrys protectively, tail lashing and a warning, venomous look in her eyes. The bear
scrambled away and it's paw steps soon faded out and left her mother with her child,
who was quivering with fright, partly at what she had witnessed and the ominous
vision she received.

Art:
See above. ^^ It's not great, but it took me a while and I like it.
