[Implemented] An option to disable messages "from your pet"

Postby Kida » Tue Mar 26, 2013 8:17 am

Hello! I have a small suggestion for the site.

Can we please have an option somewhere to disable those "A message from your pet" messages that one gets when they go to trade away a pound pet? I see it as a rather annoying and useless feature, and the arguments of "the whole point of the pound is to find a pet you want".. Well, that's a moot point.

One of the biggest points of this game is to trade. That's the only way I can personally get the pets I want, mostly because any pets on my wishlist are very high in demand or old, so everyone snatches those out of the pound at opening. So yes, I do use the pound to get trade fodder. When the pound hardly has things that I truly want, what else am I going to use it for? Am I going to seriously pass up a chance at a free pet that I can trade simply because it's "not the point of the pound"? Of course not.

I don't need a spam message that attempts some kind of pathetic guilt-tripping every time I go to trade a pet, no matter where it's from. I'm just trying to play a game, not save poor pixel animals from "being put to sleep". So please consider giving an option to disable those messages from now on, as I would rather not enable a filter to delete messages to myself (in case I ever have the need to do so). Thanks.

There's another way to do this:

PMs > Rules, folders, & settings > Add new rule > If: Subject > begins with > A message from your pet > Delete message > Add rule

(now obviously, anyone who sends you a message with "A message from your pet" at the start of the subject will have their message deleted, but I highly doubt anyone is going to do that XD also, this rule takes care of messages from Pound pets with names and without names C: [just mentioning that because the subjects of those are slightly different])

edit:
edited out one of the ways because I didn't read carefully enough xD;

edit2:
If I remember correctly, I think the message was put in place instead of outright banning the trading of Pound pets o.o I might be remembering wrong, though...

edit3:
I knew I read it somewhere!
Tess wrote:pound pets ARE tradeable and you don't get punished for trading them out, but it is 'frowned upon' ;) hence the sad message that comes up when you try and trade one

it's sort of against pound rules to trade them, but we still leave it up to the owner to trade incase they have a genuine reason to, like if they dont play much anymore

from here
I guess the "pound rules" that exist aren't exactly heavily enforced, then xD

Spread the word to end the word, because discrimination based on perceived or actual IQ/"intelligence" is no better than discrimination based on race, gender, etc.

Context, consistency, and clear antecedents are golden.
I neither read nor speak between the lines. But I will analyze your language.

You can also set a rule to delete any messages sent from yourself, which shouldn't interfere with any PM's (unless you like sending PM's to yourself x3)

However, I don't think that the message will be taken away, because it tries to discourage you trading your pound pets which you should have picked out of desire and not for fodder.
I am not very active at the moment due to busy season at work. I may take time to respond to trades/messages.

I don't think the pound pet message should be removed, as ideally people would be using the pound to get pets that they really like or are necessary to complete their collection. Not everyone may use it that way, but it's still something that should be encouraged.

    I second this.
When I was a younger user, I remember feeling guilty to the point where I cried over that message. (I still traded it away and now that I've grown up I realize how stupid it was to get so upset.)
My point is, it's kind of guilt-trippy and given that there are a lot of younger users, I don't think it's particularly nice to have something like that.

I must agree with this, I've always found the messages annoying. Sometimes I'll see a pet my friend is looking for for their collection and, knowing they aren't on, I'll grab it for them and trade it to them, but then I always get that message and, though small and easy to get rid of, I still don't find it necessary.

Maybe when the pound was created it had standards like that, but those standards are not enforced at all, so I don't see why we need a sob-story message for it. People are going to trade away the pound pets message or not, so it seems pointless.

And besides, the message doesn't even work for all pets. I found it quite amusing when I traded away a Malk Betta fish and I got the message about how I "stroked it through the bars of its cage"

Also- we all know they're just pixel images right?

I Support this! I really dislike the message. I mean if you are allowed to trade the pound pet with not punishment, then the message is just Spam and spam isn't allowed anywhere else, so CS shouldn't be be making it... Besides the Message IS Useless if people are gonna just trade the pet away regardless of the message....

?????
of course this should be an option. Honestly we shouldn't even get pound pet messages at all. What's the difference between 'rescuing' a pet from the pound and a quitting user? Or a user who hates that pet? Nothing, really, because there's no gameplay roleplay aspect to it other than the messages.

I should have to be punished for performing the PRIMARY OBJECTIVE of this game, which is trading, because I picked the pet up from the pound. The intentions of the pound is irrelevant- MY playstyle is that I pick up the rarest pet I find and use it to get something I DO want.

These are masses of pixels and codes, they don't have feelings, and pound messages are REALLY ANNOYING. I shouldn't have to block the message title or anything like that. I absolutely just do not want to see them and I should certainly have the option not to.

So tl;dr agreed.

I support.
Although it is relatively easy to set up a rule in the folders/settings/etc area, some users might not know how to set up a rule and never ask, or dislike making rules for their private messages. And I've noticed that there seems to be a fair bit of complaints about the pound pet message, so this suggestion would make a great option in my opinion. ^_^
