It would be a perfect opportunity to lead by example. I believe people will take art theft more seriously if a former staff member is made an example of. Something so drastic would definitely make an impact on those that take part in art theft or those that may consider taking part in it.

I believe that, no matter what happens, very few people will leave CS should things change. It's pretty addicting. Initially, that was my main concern. "How many people are going to quit because of this?"

I feel that, should the project be accepted, two things should happen.
1) Both Yulynh and Equimagines names should be tagged on the re-colored horses.
2.) The re-colors should have some quirk in their design that denotes them as former Equimagine horses and gives them that dash of uniqueness.

If this doesn't make everyone happy, nothing is going to.

IAWTC

I really think Tess should just lock this topic and make the changes she needs to make. People are notoriously resistant to change, even when it's something like the Equi horses that were not very popular *before* this vote came up. Now people loooove them? What a load of manure.

"Load of Manure" Very punny. (: I still stand by what I said. I believe this will be the best course of action and will leave everyone at least partially satisfied. Put an end to the bickering.

You may not agree with us, but don't go insulting us. We respect your opinion; show us the same favor.

You aren't immature for liking the lines, but they are stolen. This, again, ISN'T an opinion matter its a LEGAL one.

As I stated before, it is an opinion.
Opinion:
A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof

Is there positive proof of the equimagine line-arts all being traced? Sure, the foal line-art matches a photo too closely to be merely coincidental, but this project is for the changing of all equimagine lines. Until there is positive evidence that equimagine did not legally create all of her line-art, it is an opinion.

If the equimagine lines were changed to ones they didn't like, they'd have no further reason to stay and may very well simply lose interest and leave, which is entirely valid. It's not a matter of "they didn't win" or anything like that, simply that the thing they were here for has ceased to exist.

Going with a completely different example, if the RP boards were shut down, there'd probably be a lot of people angry and upset and who would leave because they were only here for the RPs. It's not that they aren't 'mature enough to accept change' or 'stomping their feet because they lost', it's just they have no other strong reason for being on the site. When the thing they enjoyed most and stayed for isn't there anymore, it's entirely reasonable for them to move on if they feel like it. I hope that they wouldn't quit, but if they did, all the best to them. :3

Actually, it's more like this. Imagine the style in all of the forums is the same, and it's clean, not messy, and well-done. Then, there's the role-playing forum which has a way different layout, and it isn't nearly as clean. Some users also say the layout was directly copied from another website. Now, we would change that RP board to fit with all the other boards.
That'd probably be more like it, as the equimagines aren't getting removed ^^
Of course, there will be some people who love the diversity in the forum boards or love that layout, just like here.

We're not out to be judge, jury and executioner.

This thread isn't to put equimagine on trial. She and Tess sorted that out to their mutual satisfaction awhile back. There was wrongdoing admitted, she 'pled guilty' if you will, which makes us as judge and jury pretty moot I think! c:

However, a lot of us feel that the situation truly isn't fixed until something has been done about the lineart of dubious nature.

"But why didn't Tess just fix it?" Honestly, I don't know. But she's valuing our input now and I think this is useful to keep in mind as we give her that input.

"But why didn't it come up until now?" Because until now it wasn't allowed to be discussed on the CS. People would too easily turn the thread into a witchhunt against equimagine. Which, I repeat, we're not trying to do!

"But a vote for no change doesn't mean you're supporting art theft!" Except everyone agrees that something hinky's goin' on with those lines, even equimagine herself... so you may want to consider that when you vote.

Equimagine admitted wrongdoing and the dubious lineart is still around CS. To a lot of us, that means the situation isn't fixed yet.

Yeah, I'm going to miss the equimagine lines too. I think they were unique and had a certain liveliness to them. However, I understand that my personal enjoyment of that is outweighed by wanting CS to have true artistic integrity with no caveats. I'm really sorry if the equimagine horses are the only reason you stay around. Perhaps we could work out a compromise where the old designs are done on a variant of the new lineart so that items would still fit, but they would be more 'cartoony' in a way that makes everyone happy.

But I don't think it's morally right to say step on other people's art in order for your own fun. And I hope soon we can all agree that it's a problem, and get working towards a solution that will make everyone happy - or happier, at least.

That's the issue as I see it in a nutshell. c:

And this is why you're a part of the staff team! Brilliantly put, Atwood! There is really little reason, in my opinion, to make a deal of the users who are planning to quite when/if the change occurs. It is their decision, and everyone's lives will carry on.

Okay, and some of you are getting very mean about this! Guys, Chicken smoothie is not life or death! Please, think about what you are all saying to each other- to real, living people with families and loved ones! We are all people, there's no need to be so cruel :( Aren't we all just people trying to enjoy a virtual pet game? Shouldn't we just get along? I mean, sure, we have differing opinions, but the name calling that I've seen is just...please stop, guys? And the biting sarcasm is rather unnecessary too :(

i honestly don't care if the pictures were traced or what ever. i hate hearing these speeches about "oh we're a community based on honest art work" and blah blah blah. you can't scold her for it! we have all been guilty of some sort of copying or tracing or what ever! we all went to school, we all wanted short cuts on our assignments! this is no different! a simple misunderstanding...a simple slip-up stop getting into such and uproar over it. it's done and over with what ever damage had been done is already done. so just drop the issue and stop creating more problems for yourself CS.

most of my friends are quitting too because of this change. some i never get to see because they live far away from me now. :(

im keeping my mouth shut after this because i know no mere person is going to see my reasoning to any thing :silent:

[edit: why don't you just make like a setting on the account for the users "switch to current line art" and "switch to classic line art" ?that will make both "no" and "yes" people happy]

Okay its clear to me that even trying to discuss this is pointless, I'm agreeing with people on changing the lines and am being told I'm acting rude and superior and its pretty upsetting.
I'm not trying to make people feel bad, I think people can have opinions and that's fine, if they prefer the lines thats fine, but I think its better off changing it then RISKING getting in trouble.

Whether or not they're all traced, they have the taint, and I think one line tracing is enough. But apparently that's me being superior. I'll just bow out now. I apologize for not being completely one hundred percent all knowing on certain things.

Good example, but for an RP board it's typically the contents that people care about and not the layout so much, whereas for these horses it's the "layout" or the lines that people are so fond of.

Maybe the rest of us aren't as okay with dishonesty as you are?

The fact remains that we have a pretty good artistic community around here where these sort of rules are upheld. The damage has been done, sure, but... doesn't the damage also need to be fixed? That's usually what happens with damage, as I understand it, anyway.

This issue is FAR from over. The theft is still there, and it's not okay. Once it's changed, THEN we can truly put the art theft behind us. It's that simple. Art theft, especially when it's against CS's own rules, is inexcusable. And the only way to truly put the issue to rest is to get rid of the offending artwork.
